Danfoss CDS303/803 Quick Troubleshooting Guide
Service Guide
Intent of the Document
This document aims to provide a simplified troubleshooting process for Danfoss CDS303 and CDS803 drives, focusing on alarms displayed on the LCP (Local Control Panel). This is intended to reduce the number of drives returned as 'No Fault Found' by guiding users through common alarm resolutions.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Connect the LCP display to the drive.
- Power OFF and then power ON the drive. Allow the unit to attempt compressor startup.
- Check the alarms displayed on the drive and in the alarm history via the 'Alarm log'. Record these alarms carefully (or take a picture) for communication with Danfoss support.
CDS303 Alarm Log
The CDS303 drive displays alarm information directly on its screen. The 'Alarm log' button on the LCP provides access to this history.
Example alarms shown on the CDS303 display include:
- 0.000RPM
- 0.000
- 07 Water and Pumps
- 07-1 Special Ramps
- 07-2 Sleep Mode
- 07-3 Deragging
- 07-4 Dry Run
CDS803 Alarm Log (Parameter 15-30 Alarm Log: Error Code)
To access the alarm log on the CDS803, navigate using the LCP as follows:
- Press 'Menu' twice.
- Use the 'Arrow Down' button ten times.
- Press 'OK'.
- Use the 'Arrow Down' button.
- Press 'OK' twice.
- Use the 'Arrow Up' button.
The drive can display up to 10 fault logs. Log '[0]' is the most recent, and '[9]' is the oldest.
Troubleshooting Flowcharts
Check Alarm #
#13: Over current
#18: Start failure
#49: Speed limit
If any of these alarms are present, it may indicate a Compressor failure.
Action: Replace the compressor and return it for inspection if under warranty.
Check Alarm #
#30: Motor phase U missing
#31: Motor phase V missing
#32: Motor phase W missing
These alarms suggest it is most probably neither a drive nor a compressor failure.
Action: Check the motor cable and reset the alarm.
Check Alarm #
#14: Earth (ground) fault
#A45: Earth (ground) fault
Action:
- Power OFF the unit.
- Disconnect the power cable at the compressor electrical box.
- Perform an insulation resistance test on the compressor using a 500V 'megger' tester.
If resistance < 500 kΩ: Replace the compressor and return it for inspection if under warranty.
If resistance > 500 kΩ: Replace the drive and return it for inspection if under warranty.
Check Alarm #
#68: Safe stop activated by HP (High Pressure) switch trip
Action: Reset the high-pressure switch and reset the drive.
Check Alarm #
#36: Mains failure
Indicates power shortage while the compressor was running.
Action: Check the unit's main power supply. Investigate if other units connected to the same power supply are causing voltage drops during startup.
Check Alarm #
#38: Internal fault
Action: Check the code number associated with this alarm and refer to the Operating Instructions.
Power OFF and then power ON the drive. If the alarm remains, the drive may need to be returned for inspection if under warranty.
Others
Action: Return the drive for inspection.
Notes
- If the drive is not equipped with a display, the ordering code numbers are 120Z0581 for CDS803 and 120Z0326 for CDS303. LCP kits for remote mounting are 120Z0617 for CDS803 and 175Z0929 for CDS303.
- For further details regarding each alarm, refer to the Operating Instructions.
