Garmin vívofit jr. 2 Owner's Manual

Using the Device
- Press the [key] to scroll through device features (Icons, page 1).
- Hold the [key] for 1 second, and release it to view the menu (Menu Options, page 2).
- Press the [key] to scroll through menu options.
- Hold the [key] for 1 second, and release it to select menu options.
- Hold the [key] for less than 1 second to turn on the backlight. The backlight turns off automatically.
Pairing with Your Smartphone
Before pairing your vívofit jr. 2 with a smartphone, at least one parent or guardian must have a Garmin Connect™ account (Garmin Connect, page 1). Your device must be paired directly through the vívofit jr. app, not from your smartphone's Bluetooth® settings.
- From your smartphone's app store, install and open the vívofit jr. app.
- Log in using your Garmin Connect username and password.
- Follow the app's instructions to set up your family and add each child.
- On the vívofit jr. 2 device, hold the [key] until the [pairing-icon] appears. The device enters pairing mode.
- Follow the app's instructions to complete the setup process.
NOTE: You can pair multiple mobile devices, such as a tablet or another parent's smartphone (Pairing Multiple Mobile Devices, page 4).
vívofit jr. App
The free vívofit jr. app lets you track your children's daily activity and chore progress.
- Activity tracking: Tracks your children's daily steps, active minutes, and sleep data.
- Chore progress: Allows creation and management of chores, awarding coins for chore completion, and redeeming coins for custom rewards.
- Adventure map: View your children's progress each day they reach the 60-minute activity goal, revealing adventures.
- Leaderboard: Compare steps with family and Garmin Connect community members.
- Settings: Customize device settings, including alert tones, icons, profile pictures, and more.
Garmin Connect
At least one parent needs a Garmin Connect account to use the vívofit jr. app. Sign up for a free account at www.garminconnect.com. Your Garmin Connect account provides tools to track, analyze, share, and encourage. Record your active lifestyle events and participate in family challenges by connecting a compatible activity tracker.
Icons
Icons represent device features. Press the [key] to scroll through them.
- Date: The current date. The device updates the time and date when you send data to your smartphone.
- Steps: The total number of steps taken for the day.
- Active Minutes: The total number of active minutes for the day and progress toward the 60-minute activity goal.
- Chores: The number of chores completed and assigned for the day.
- Coins: The total number of coins earned.
- New Level: Earn moves and complete missions on the adventure map.
Activity Goal
To improve children's health, organizations like the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily. This can include moderate intensity activity (e.g., brisk walking) or vigorous intensity activity (e.g., running).
The device encourages children to be active by displaying their progress toward the 60-minute daily goal.
Chore Progress
Use the vívofit jr. app to create and assign chores, and update children's chore progress. When your vívofit jr. 2 is connected to a smartphone, the device displays the updated number of chores completed [chore-icon] and assigned [chore-icon] for the day.
Coins Earned
Use the vívofit jr. app to award coins for chore completion. When your vívofit jr. 2 is connected to a smartphone, the device displays the updated number of coins earned [coin-icon].
Coins can be redeemed for rewards in the vívofit jr. app. You can create custom rewards and set the coin requirement. Redeeming coins in the app and connecting your device to a smartphone updates the device's coin total.
Menu Options
Hold the [key] for 1 second to view the menu. Press the [key] to scroll through menu options.
- Sends data to your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone.
- Displays task timer options.
- Starts the stopwatch.
- Starts a Toe-to-Toe™ challenge.
- Displays device information.
- Returns to the previous screen.
Using the Task Timer
Use your device to start a countdown timer.
- Hold the [key] to view the menu.
- Hold [key].
- Press the [key] to scroll through task timer options.
- Hold the [key] to select and start a timer.
The device beeps, the timer counts down, and sends a notification to the nearest paired smartphone. When 3 seconds remain, the device beeps until the time expires.
TIP: Hold the [key] to stop the timer.
Task Timer Options
Your device has preloaded task timers for common activities, like a 2-minute timer for brushing teeth.

Starting a Toe-to-Toe Step Challenge
Start a 2-minute, Toe-to-Toe step challenge with yourself or a friend.
NOTE: This procedure is for a two-player challenge; both players must start on their vívofit jr. 2 device. For a single-player challenge, the timer starts when you hold [key].
- Hold the [key] to view the menu.
- Hold [key].
- Select [challenge-icon] to challenge another vívofit jr. 2 player within 3 m (10 ft).
- When the player name appears, hold [key]. The device counts down for 3 seconds before the timer starts.
- Get steps for 2 minutes. When 3 seconds remain, the device beeps until the time expires.
- Bring the devices within range (3 m / 10 ft). The devices display steps for each player and their ranking.
Players can start another challenge or exit the menu.
Using the Stopwatch
- Hold the [key] to view the menu.
- Hold [key] to start the timer.
- Press [key] to stop the timer.
- If necessary, press [key] to reset the timer.
- Hold the [key] to exit the timer.
Move Bar
Prolonged sitting can lead to undesirable metabolic changes. The move bar reminds you to move. After one hour of inactivity, the move bar [move-bar-icon] appears. Additional segments [move-bar-segment-icon] appear after every 15 minutes of inactivity.
You can reset the move bar by walking a short distance.
Sleep Tracking
While sleeping, the device monitors your movement. You can set normal sleep hours in the vívofit jr. app settings. View your sleep statistics in the vívofit jr. app.
History
Your device tracks daily activity and sleep statistics. This history can be sent to the vívofit jr. app. Your device stores up to 4 weeks of activity data. When storage is full, the oldest files are deleted to make room for new data.
Sending Data Manually to Your Smartphone
Your device periodically sends data automatically to the nearest paired Bluetooth device. You can also manually send data at any time to view activities, chores, and coins in the vívofit jr. app.
- Bring the device near your smartphone.
- Open the vívofit jr. app.
- On the vívofit jr. 2 device, hold the [key] to view the menu. The [update-icon] appears while the device is sending data.
- On your smartphone, swipe down to refresh the app.
Customizing Your Device
vívofit jr. App Settings
Customize your device, user, and app settings in the vívofit jr. app. From the app, select More.
- Family settings: Customize family settings, like editing your family name or inviting additional parents/guardians.
- App settings: Customize app settings and view legal/regulatory information.
- Help: Access device care, videos, and other helpful information.
Kid Settings
From the vívofit jr. app, select your child, then select Settings.
Settings: Customize device settings, such as alert tones, the steps icon, and device display text.
Register an Accessory Band: Register an accessory band to unlock a new adventure map.

Software Update
When a software update is available, your device automatically downloads it when you send data to your smartphone (Sending Data Manually to Your Smartphone, page 2). A progress bar and [progress-icon] appear on the vívofit jr. 2 device during the update. The update can take several minutes. Keep the device near your smartphone during the update. Your device restarts upon completion.
Viewing Device Information
View the unit ID and software version.
- Hold the [key] to view the menu.
- Hold [key].
Device Care
NOTICE: Avoid extreme shock and harsh treatment, as it can degrade the product's life.
- Avoid pressing keys underwater.
- Do not use sharp objects to clean the device.
- Avoid chemical cleaners, solvents, and insect repellents, as they can damage plastic components and finishes.
- Rinse the device thoroughly with fresh water after exposure to chlorine, salt water, sunscreen, cosmetics, alcohol, or other harsh chemicals. Prolonged exposure can damage the case.
- Do not place the device in high-temperature environments, such as a clothes dryer.
- Do not store the device where prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can occur, as it can cause permanent damage.
Cleaning the Device
- Wipe the device with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution.
- Wipe it dry.
After cleaning, allow the device to dry completely.

User Replaceable Batteries

Replacing the Battery
The device uses one CR1632 battery.
- Remove the device from the band.
- Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws on the back of the device.
- Remove the rear case and battery.
- Insert the new battery with the negative side facing the inside of the front cover.
- Verify the gasket is not damaged and is fully seated in the rear case.
- Replace the rear case and the four screws.
- Tighten the four screws equally and firmly.
- Insert the device into the flexible silicone band by stretching the band material around the device. The arrow on the device must align with the arrow inside the band.
Band Replacement
The stretchy band fits most children ages 4 to 7. The adjustable band fits children 6 and older. Contact Garmin customer support for information about optional accessories and replacement parts. The removable device is compatible with vívofit 3 and vívofit jr. bands.
Troubleshooting
My step count does not seem accurate
If your step count is inaccurate, try these tips:
- Go to http://www.garmin.com/ataccuracy.
- Wear the device on your non-dominant wrist.
- Carry the device in your pocket when actively using your hands or arms only.
NOTE: The device may interpret repetitive motions, like clapping or brushing teeth, as steps.
My device does not display the correct time
The device updates the time and date when you send data to your smartphone. Manually send data to your smartphone to get the correct time when changing time zones or for daylight saving time updates.
- Confirm your smartphone or mobile device displays the correct local time.
- Send data to your smartphone (Sending Data Manually to Your Smartphone, page 2). The time and date update automatically.
Is my smartphone compatible with my device?
The vívofit jr. 2 device is compatible with smartphones for Android™ and Apple® mobile digital devices using Bluetooth Smart wireless technology.
Pairing Multiple Mobile Devices
After initial setup (Pairing with Your Smartphone, page 1), you can pair your vívofit jr. 2 device with up to two additional mobile devices, such as a tablet or another parent's smartphone.
- From your smartphone or tablet's app store, install and open the vívofit jr. app.
- Log in using your Garmin Connect username and password.
- Follow the app's instructions to join an existing family.
- Bring your mobile device within 3 m (10 ft.) of your vívofit jr. 2 device.
- NOTE: Stay 10 m (33 ft.) away from other mobile devices while pairing.
- If necessary, turn off Bluetooth wireless technology on previously paired mobile devices.
- On the vívofit jr. 2 device, hold the [key] to view the menu.
- Hold [key] to enter pairing mode.
- Follow the app's instructions to complete the pairing process.
- If necessary, repeat steps 1-8 for each additional mobile device.
How do I pair an additional device with the vívofit jr. app?
If you have already paired a device with the vívofit jr. app, you can add a new child and device from the kid menu. You can pair up to eight devices.
NOTE: Each child can pair with one device.
- Open the vívofit jr. app.
- Select [plus-icon].
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Resetting the Device
If the device stops responding, you may need to reset it. This does not erase your data.
NOTE: Resetting the device also resets the move bar.
- Hold the device [key] for 15 seconds.
- Release the device [key].
The screen turns off, the device resets, and the screen turns on.
My device won't turn on
If your device no longer turns on, you may need to replace the batteries. Go to (Replacing the Battery, page 3).
