Epson WorkForce WF-2960: Start Here Guide

This guide provides essential steps to set up your Epson WorkForce WF-2960 printer.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Before using this product, read these instructions and the safety instructions in the online User's Guide.

Note: This printer is designed for use with Epson® cartridges only. For ink information, visit epson.com/epsonink (U.S.) or epson.ca/epsonink (Canada).

Important Safety Instructions:

  • Do not use the Epson product near water.
  • Always keep this guide handy.
  • Avoid using a telephone during an electrical storm.
  • Do not use a telephone to report a gas leak.

Caution: To reduce the risk of fire, use only a No. 26 AWG or larger telecommunication line cord.

1 Unpack

Note: Do not open ink cartridge packages until ready to install. Cartridges are vacuum packed.

  1. Remove Protective Materials

    Remove all protective materials from the product. Lift the scanner unit until it locks into place. Then, remove all protective materials from inside the product. Caution: Do not touch the flat white cable.

  2. Lower Scanner Unit

    Lower the scanner unit. Continue lowering even if you feel some resistance.

  3. Connect Power

    Connect the power cord to the back of the product and to an electrical outlet. Caution: Do not connect to your computer yet.

2 Choose a Setup Method

The Epson Smart Panel® app offers an interactive, step-by-step setup process using your smartphone or tablet.

Option A: Use Mobile Device for Setup

  1. Download the Epson Smart Panel app from your device's app store. Do not launch it yet.
  2. Hold the power button ⚡ until it lights up to turn on the product.
  3. Launch the app and follow its instructions to set up your product. If needed, tap the '+' icon, then 'Start setting up'.

Option B: Skip Mobile Setup

If you do not want to use a mobile device, skip to the "Turn on and configure" section.

Note: Do not connect your product to your computer yet.

3 Turn On and Configure

  1. Power On

    Raise the control panel. Turn on the product and wait for the power light. Caution: Do not remove any other labels or seals, or ink will leak. Do not touch the indicated areas. Note: If an error code appears, turn off the product and check for any remaining protective material.

  2. Select Language

    Select your language.

  3. Continue Setup

    When the Epson Smart Panel setup screen appears, select "Continue setup without the app".

  4. Set Date and Time

    Select your country, date, and time. Note: These settings can be changed later via the product's control panel or the online User's Guide.

4 Install Ink Cartridges

Caution: Keep ink cartridges out of reach of children and do not drink the ink.

Note: Included initial cartridges are for setup only and cannot be resold. Remaining ink is for printing.

  1. Prepare Scanner

    Lift the scanner unit until it locks into place.

  2. Prepare Cartridge

    Gently shake the black ink cartridge. Caution: Do not shake other ink cartridges.

  3. Unpack Cartridges

    Unpack the ink cartridges.

  4. Remove Tape

    Remove only the yellow tape from each ink cartridge.

  5. Insert Cartridges

    Insert the cartridges into their holders for each color. Press each cartridge down until it clicks. Ensure all cartridges are pushed down into place. Caution: Do not remove other labels or seals, or ink will leak. Do not touch the indicated areas.

  6. Lower Scanner Unit

    Lower the scanner unit. Continue lowering even if you feel some resistance.

  7. Charge Ink

    Select "Installed". The printer starts charging the ink, which takes approximately 5 minutes. When a completion message appears on the LCD screen, charging is complete. Caution: Do not turn off the printer or raise the scanner unit while charging, as ink will be wasted. Note: Your product's serial number may be sent to a secure Epson server for program eligibility, with a separate consent opportunity.

  8. Adjust Print Quality

    Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust print quality. Note: You need to load 4 sheets of letter-size paper first. See "Load paper" for details. Select "Adjust Later" if you wish to adjust print quality later. For more information, see the online User's Guide.

5 Load Paper

See the online User's Guide for information on loading capacity, paper types/sizes, envelopes, and using the ADF.

  1. Prepare Cassette

    Make sure ink charging is done. Pull out the paper cassette.

  2. Adjust Guides

    Squeeze the tab on the right edge guide and slide the side edge guides all the way out.

  3. Insert Paper

    Insert paper with the glossy or printable side down.

  4. Align Guides

    Slide the edge guides against the paper, but not too tightly.

  5. Insert Cassette

    Keep the cassette flat as you insert it all the way.

  6. Output Tray

    Pull out the output tray.

  7. Configure Settings

    Follow the LCD screen instructions to adjust print quality (if not done already) and select paper settings.

6 Connect the Fax Line

  1. Connect Phone Cord

    Connect a phone cord to a telephone wall jack and to the LINE port on your product. See the online User's Guide for more information.

  2. Fax Setup

    If prompted, press "Proceed" to set up the fax, or press "Set up later" to do it later.

7 Install Software

Note: An Internet connection is required for product software. For Chromebook™™ printing, visit epson.com/support/chromebookprint (U.S.) or epson.ca/support/chromebookprint (Canada).

Firmware Update Notice: The printer is designed for genuine Epson cartridges. Firmware updates may affect third-party ink functionality.

  1. Disconnect USB

    Make sure the product is NOT CONNECTED to your computer. If a "Found New Hardware" screen appears on Windows, click Cancel and disconnect the USB cable.

  2. Download Software

    Download and run your product's software package from epson.com/support/wf2960 (U.S.) or epson.ca/support/wf2960 (Canada).

  3. Run Setup

    Follow the instructions on the computer screen to run the setup program.

  4. Select Connection

    When the "Select Your Connection" screen appears, choose one and follow instructions:

    • Wireless connection: The installer usually attempts automatic setup. You may need to enter your network name (SSID) and password.
    • Direct USB connection: Requires a USB cable (not included).
    • Wired network connection: Requires an Ethernet cable (not included).

Mobile and Voice-Activated Printing

  • Print directly from Android™ (v4.4+) devices by connecting printer and device to the same network.
  • Use the Epson Smart Panel app as a control center.
  • Print remotely with Epson Connect™. Visit epson.com/connect (U.S.) or epson.ca/connect (Canada) for details.
  • Use voice-activated assistants by linking your Epson Connect account. Visit epson.com/voice (U.S.) or epson.ca/voice (Canada) for more information.

* May require Epson Print Enabler or Mopria Print Service app from Google Play™.

Any Problems?

Network setup was unsuccessful.

  • Print a network connection report for troubleshooting.
  • Ensure the correct network name (SSID) is selected.
  • Restart your router.
  • The printer supports 2.4 GHz connections; ensure it is enabled if your router supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
  • If a firewall alert appears, click "Unblock" or "Allow".
  • If your network has security enabled, enter your password (WEP key or WPA passphrase) correctly, paying attention to case.

Lines or incorrect colors in printouts.

Run a nozzle check and clean the print head if necessary. See the online User's Guide.

Product's screen is dark.

Ensure the product is turned on and touch the screen or press a button to wake it.

Setup cannot find printer after USB connection.

Ensure the product is turned on and the USB cable is securely connected.
