MELEC MR Wide Body Batten
Product Information and Installation Guide
Product Information
The MELEC MR Wide Body Batten is designed for speed and flexibility. It features a robust 1-piece metal body with integrated end caps, making installation exceptionally quick and easy. Multiple entry points allow cables to be run from the back or ends of the fitting, connecting to the large PA16 terminal block. Once the base is mounted and wiring is complete, the diffuser snaps into place tool-free. Like all MELEC MR products, the MR Wide Body Batten is supported by a 5-year warranty.

Installation Guide
Surface Mounted Installation
- Turn power off before commencing installation.
- Always use suitable fixings for your type of installation.
- Un-clip the end caps on each side of the fitting. Squeeze the diffuser in the center to detach and gain access to the internal componentry.
- When running cables into the fitting, ensure you use a suitable sealant to prevent any future water penetration.
- Wire MR wide body batten according to the labels on the terminal.
- Select the desired CCT output on the switch.
- Re-install the diffuser onto the base and press the end caps in.
- Test and commission.
Wiring Guide (Surface Mounted)
The wiring guide shows a standard connection for Live (L), Neutral (N), and Earth (⏚). The diagram illustrates how wires connect to the terminal block within the fitting.
Surface mount installation diagrams illustrate:
- Step 1: Attaching mounting brackets to the ceiling.
- Step 2: Securing the batten to the brackets.
- Additional images show how to unclip end caps, access internal components, and re-attach the diffuser.
Suspended Installation
- Follow initial steps for preparing the fitting (similar to surface mounting, e.g., accessing internal components).
- Attach suspension hardware to the ceiling.
- Connect suspension wires to the fitting.
- Adjust suspension wire length as needed.
- Secure the batten to the suspension points.
- Connect wiring as per the wiring guide.
Suspended installation diagrams illustrate:
- Attaching ceiling mounting points.
- Connecting suspension wires to the batten.
- Adjusting the length of the suspension wire.
- Securing the batten to the suspension points.
Splicing Wire Connection (for multiple battens)
This section details how to connect multiple MR Wide Body Battens in series, provided the total splicing power is less than 2000W.
Splicing wire connection diagrams illustrate connecting multiple battens in series. It shows wire preparation (stripping wires to ≥50mm) and connecting Live (L), Switched, Earth (⏚), and Neutral (N) wires between fittings, with connection points indicated.
Important Notes & Safety Precautions
MUST BE INSTALLED BY A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN
- Read instructions carefully before attempting to install the fitting. Retain this guide for future reference.
- Disconnect power before installing or servicing.
- This fitting is for indoor use only and should not be used in areas with limited ventilation or high ambient temperatures.
- Do not extend low voltage cables from the output of the power supply.
- All components must not be mechanically stressed.
- Be careful not to damage or destroy conductive paths on the circuit board.
- Follow all relevant electrical and safety standards (including AS3000).
- Correct electrical polarity must be observed, as the wrong polarity may destroy the product and is not covered under warranty.
- Damage by corrosion will not be honored as a material defect claim. It is the user's responsibility to provide suitable protection against corrosive agents such as moisture, condensation, and other harmful elements.
