CORD

The cord should not be used to pull the trimmer. Maintain freedom of movement by keeping the cord untwisted and unobstructed. When stored, coil the cord and place the unit in its original box or storage pouch. If your trimmer has a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other), it fits in a polarized outlet only one way. If it doesn't fit, reverse the plug. If it still doesn't fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not alter the plug.

CARING FOR YOUR TRIMMER

OILING BLADES

For best results, use Wahl Clipper Oil on the blades only when necessary, approximately once a month. Motor bearings are permanently lubricated; do not attempt to oil them. To oil, turn the trimmer ON (I), hold the unit with blades facing DOWN, and apply three drops across the front of the blade and one drop on each side at the heel. Wipe off excess oil with a soft cloth. NOTICE—DO NOT OVER OIL! Excessive oiling can cause damage if it seeps into the motor.

BLADE CARE

Trimmer blades have precision-hardened, ground, and lapped cutting teeth. Handle blades carefully and avoid bumping them or using them to cut dirty or abrasive material. Clean with the included brush.

CLEANING/STORAGE

Before storing, use the cleaning brush to remove loose hairs from the unit and blades. Store the unit so the blades are protected from damage. When not in use, attach the trimmer blade guard to protect the blades. Store the appliance where it is not subjected to crushing, temperatures above 100°C (212°F), or incineration.

SHARPENING

Trimmer blades have precision-ground cutting teeth. Handle blades carefully and avoid bumping them. To keep blades sharp, cut only clean hair and avoid abrasive particles. Blades should be sharpened or replaced in sets. To remove blades for sharpening or replacement, loosen and remove the two screws on the bottom blade. Return blades (only) with a check or money order for $6.95 (includes shipping) to: Wahl Clipper Corporation, Attn: Repair Department, 3001 Locust Street, Sterling, IL 61081. New replacement blades are available from Wahl Authorized Service Centers or by contacting Wahl.

SPECIAL FEATURES

The Wahl Edge Pro trimmer is designed with advanced features for perfect results. It can be used for trimming goatees, beards, mustaches, necklines, sideburns, around ears, eyebrows, and other grooming needs. It's also suitable for light haircuts and touch-ups. The detachable blade system allows quick changes between a standard-width blade for full grooming and a narrow-width blade for detail trimming. To remove an attachment, pull the top edge of the blade away from the unit. To attach, align the back tab of the attachment head to the cavity on the trimmer unit and push down on the top of the blade.

TRIMMING WITH ATTACHMENT COMBS

Attachment combs are ideal for blending, tapering, and defining beards, as well as for achieving a stubble look. Trim with the hair direction for blending and against the hair direction for a closer cut. To attach guide combs, hold the comb with teeth up and snap it firmly to the bottom of the trimmer blade.

SHAVING AND INGROWN WHISKERS

For men with curly facial hair, ingrown whiskers can be a problem. Electric razors may not pick them up, and safety razors can cause irritation. The Wahl trimmer, with its T-blade and open-tooth comb action, can help by straightening curly whiskers for cutting, while its high-speed blades trim them evenly. This allows for a neat appearance while addressing ingrown whiskers.

SHAVING PROCEDURE

  1. Ensure hands and fingernails are clean before touching your face, as irritated skin is prone to infection.
  2. Wash and thoroughly dry your face to unclog pores and whisker follicles. Use a rough towel to exfoliate dead skin and invigorate the skin. Consider using an antiseptic lotion.
  3. Brush your beard daily with a good scrubbing action to free ingrown whiskers and prepare them for cutting. Use the provided beard brush or a small, stiff-bristle brush. Keep the brush clean.
  4. Brush your face frequently to train your beard to grow in one direction, ensuring a clean shave with less irritation. Brush down from ears across cheeks and along the jawbone to the chin. Brush from the chin back along the jawline. Brush up from the lower hairline around the neck. Brush from the lower lip down over the chin. Brush down from the nose to the upper lip.
  5. Shave using the Wahl trimmer, following the same strokes and direction as brushing. Stretch the skin with one hand while holding the trimmer blade head flat against the face with the other. Move with slight pressure in a stroking action.
  6. You may need to go over the same area multiple times, always shaving in the same direction. Continue this program for ingrown hairs and bumps. If the problem returns, switch back to the trimmer. Never stop brushing.

MUSTACHE TRIMMING

  1. Comb your mustache in the direction of growth in a well-lit mirror to reveal stray hairs and achieve an even trim.
  2. Hold the trimmer vertically with the nameplate facing you to define the mustache line. The extended blade tips help create a clean, defined line.
  3. For a finishing step, hold the trimmer with the nameplate facing you and use only the bare blades to create a definitive line at the bottom of your mustache.
  4. Hold the trimmer with the nameplate facing away from you. Starting from the middle of your mustache, follow the lip line and taper out to create a gentle shape at the bottom.
  5. As a finishing step, hold the trimmer with the nameplate facing you and create a definitive line at the bottom of your mustache.

TRIMMING AND EDGING YOUR BEARD

  1. Comb your beard in the direction it grows to reveal stray hairs.
  2. Attach the longest trimming guard to trim and taper your beard. Start at the sideburns and stroke downward toward your neck. Trim toward your chin with smooth, overlapping strokes, following the beard's lay. Trimming against the grain will cut hair shorter and may result in patchiness. Use progressively shorter guards until the desired length is reached. Use shorter guards near the ear and under the chin, and longer guards toward the front of the face. Ensure the guard is locked in place before trimming.
  3. To cut the beard outline, remove the trimming guard. Starting under your chin and working back toward your jawbone and ears, cut the outer perimeter of your beard. Continue the line up to the ears and hairline.
  4. Accentuate your beard line with a downward trimmer motion. Start at the created line and trim the area just under it, working from the chin back toward the ears.
  5. Define the upper part of your beard using the same technique.

FADE CUT

  1. Start at the temple and cut around the head to establish the fade line. Always cut against the grain for the shortest cut. Let the trimmer work without forcing the blade.
  2. Cut around the head again and up the nape to the fade line, brushing away cut hair. Pull the scalp taut with your thumb for a closer cut. Turn the trimmer upside down if needed to cut against the grain. Ensure both sides are even.
  3. For the top of the head, cut with the grain using guide combs. Smaller comb numbers result in shorter cuts. Comb or brush hair as you cut for an even result.
  4. Blend the hair at the fade line by trimming up and out across the line and against the grain. Repeat this process, turning the trimmer upside down and cutting downward. Use the #1 guide comb to blend hair for a seamless fade from bald to short hair. Continue combing and cutting until the desired effect is achieved.
  5. To create a part, select a spot off-center. Pull the scalp tight and hold the end of the blade perpendicular to the head. Move the trimmer back and forth to cut a line. Comb through and cut again to ensure precision.

CUTTING HAIR

When cutting hair for the first time, cut only a small amount to understand how each guide comb affects hair length. Always start with the largest guide comb and use shorter combs for shorter lengths. For maintenance between haircuts, light trimming at the lower neck and sides can restore a neat look. For uniform cutting, allow the trimmer to cut through the hair without forcing it. Comb hair into its natural direction. Place the largest guide comb on the trimmer and start trimming sides from bottom upwards, holding the trimmer lightly against the hair with the comb teeth pointing up and flat against the head. Lift the trimmer up and outward through the hair, cutting small amounts at a time. Repeat on sides and back. For shorter hair, use a shorter guide comb or apply more pressure and less lift. Practice is required; it's better to leave hair longer initially. For the top of the head, use the 1" blade guard with teeth flat against the head, trimming slowly from front to back. Again, it's better to leave hair longer for the first few haircuts.

LINING UP

Lining up refers to creating a clean, defined hairline on the forehead, sideburns, or neck. This is typically done with a trimmer or straight razor to define the haircut. Follow these steps for a crisp lineup:

  1. Cut hair to the desired length. Brush the hairline forward with a soft bristle brush to remove loose hairs.
  2. Ensure the trimmer blade is at a 90° angle, with the bottom blade facing you and perpendicular to a horizontal plane. Touch the edge of the hairline with the trimmer blade teeth to the forehead hairline edge to establish a guide. Tap the hairline from left to right. Sideburns can be blocked to the desired length.
  3. Facial hairline alignment depends on the desired style. The trimmer can be held at various angles, but the blades must always face you.
