Care of the camera
- Do not subject the camera to strong vibration, shock, or pressure. The lens, monitor, or external case may be damaged, or the camera may malfunction if used in certain conditions.
- Avoid using the camera in dusty, sandy, or wet environments. Liquid, sand, and other foreign materials may cause malfunctions that could be irreparable.
- About Condensation: Condensation occurs when ambient temperature or humidity changes. Turn the camera off and leave it for about 2 hours to allow it to acclimate to the ambient temperature.
Standard Accessories
Check that all accessories are supplied before using the camera. Accessories may differ by country or region. Refer to the "Basic Owner's Manual" for details.

Monitor Adjustment
You can adjust the angle of the monitor.
- Flip up the bottom of the monitor lightly to open.
- Adjust the angle of the monitor.
Note: Be careful not to catch your finger in the monitor. When closing, close the monitor completely. The monitor can be rotated to suit various shooting angles, including low angles and self-shots. If the monitor is rotated as shown for self-shot, the [Self Shot Mode] starts automatically (P46).
Preparation
Charging the Battery
Use the dedicated AC adaptor (supplied), USB connection cable (supplied), and battery. The battery is not charged when shipped; charge it before use. Charge the battery only when it is inserted in the camera.
Camera conditions: Turned off
Charging:
- Connect the AC adaptor (supplied) and camera with the USB connection cable (supplied), and plug into a power outlet.
- Connect the computer and camera with the USB connection cable (supplied). The computer must be turned on.
About batteries: Use only genuine Panasonic battery packs. Counterfeit battery packs may pose a fire or explosion risk.
About the power supply: The AC adaptor can supply power from an outlet via the USB cable. The battery may run out during recording, causing the camera to turn off.
Charging Lamp:
- Lit red: Charging.
- Off: Charging complete.
- Blinking red: Charging error (Refer to P145).
Charging time: Approx. 170 minutes (when using AC adaptor, for a fully discharged battery).
Battery indication: Displayed on the monitor. Blinks red when power is low.
Important Notes: Do not leave metal items near contact areas. Use only supplied cables. Remove the battery after use. The battery and camera may become warm during use/charging, which is normal. Frequent topping up of a partially charged battery is not recommended.
Inserting the Battery
- Slide the release lever and open the card/battery door.
- Insert the battery, ensuring correct orientation, until locked by lever A. To remove, move lever A.
- Close the card/battery door and slide the release lever.
Note: Turn the camera off and wait for the "LUMIX" display to clear before removing the battery to prevent damage or data loss.
Inserting and Removing the Card (optional)
- Slide the release lever and open the card/battery door.
- Insert the card securely until it clicks, paying attention to orientation. To remove, push until it clicks, then pull out upright. Do not touch connection terminals.
- Close the card/battery door and slide the release lever.
Note: Turn the camera off and wait for the "LUMIX" display to clear before removing the card to prevent damage or data loss.
About the Built-in Memory/the Card
Pictures can be recorded on the built-in memory (approx. 80 MB) or an inserted card (SD, SDHC, SDXC). Access indications [k] (built-in memory) and [5] (card) are displayed in red during access.
Supported Cards: SD Memory Card (8 MB to 2 GB), SDHC Memory Card (4 GB to 32 GB), SDXC Memory Card (48 GB, 64 GB).
Note: Use SD Speed Class "Class 6" or higher for motion pictures. Format cards on the camera only. Do not turn off the camera, remove the battery/card, or disconnect the AC adaptor during access.
Approximate number of recordable pictures and available recording time
The number of pictures and recording time vary based on picture size, card capacity, and recording conditions.
- Still Pictures: Example: 16M (4:3) picture size allows approx. 830 pictures on an 8 GB card.
- Motion Pictures: Example: HD quality allows approx. 35 minutes on an 8 GB card.
Note: Motion pictures can be recorded continuously up to 2 GB.
Setting Date/Time (Clock Set)
The clock is not set when shipped.
- Press camera [ON/OFF] button [on/off button].
- Press [MENU/SET] [menu/set button].
- Select language using cursor buttons and press [MENU/SET].
- Press [MENU/SET] to access Clock Set.
- Use cursor buttons to select and set Year, Month, Day, Hour, Minute, display sequence, or time format.
- Press [MENU/SET] to set.
- Press [MENU/SET] to exit.
Note: The clock setting is maintained for about 7 days by the built-in clock battery. Charge the battery for 2 hours to charge this built-in battery.
Tips for taking good pictures
- Fit the strap and hold the camera carefully: Hold gently with both hands, keep arms still, and stand with feet slightly apart. Avoid swinging the strap forcefully.
- Preventing jitter (camera shake): If the jitter alert [ ] appears, use [Stabilizer] (P84), a tripod, or the Self-timer (P59). Shutter speed is slower in certain modes ([Slow Sync./Red-Eye], [Night Portrait], etc.). Keep the camera still.
Basic Operations
Selecting the Recording Mode
- Press [MODE] [mode button].
- Use cursor buttons to select the desired Recording Mode.
- Press [MENU/SET] [menu/set button].
Recording Modes:
- Intelligent Auto Mode: [intelligent auto mode icon] (P26) - Camera automatically selects settings. Recommended for beginners.
- Normal Picture Mode: [normal picture mode icon] (P30) - Use your own settings.
- Creative Control Mode: [creative control mode icon] (P61) - Apply image effects before recording.
- Panorama Shot Mode: [panorama shot mode icon] (P67) - Take panorama pictures.
- Scene Mode: [scene mode icon] (P70) - Select presets for specific scenes.
Taking pictures using the automatic function (Intelligent Auto Mode)
In this mode, the camera automatically sets the most appropriate settings for the subject and recording conditions. Functions like Scene Detection, Face Detection, [i.Exposure], [i.Zoom], and [Stabilizer] are activated automatically.
- Press [MODE] [mode button].
- Select [Intelligent Auto] using cursor buttons and press [MENU/SET] [menu/set button].
- Press the shutter button halfway to focus. The focus indication [green] lights when focused. The AF area [white] or [green] is displayed.
- Press the shutter button fully to take the picture.
Scene Detection: The camera identifies scenes like [i-Portrait], [i-Macro], [i-Scenery], etc., indicated by icons.
Backlight Compensation: Automatically corrects brightness for subjects against bright backgrounds.
Note: Available menus in Intelligent Auto Mode are limited (e.g., [Rec] menu items like [Picture Size], [Burst Shooting], [Self Shot]; [Motion Picture] menu item [Rec Quality]; [Setup] menu items like [Clock Set]; [Wi-Fi] menu items).
Taking pictures with your favorite settings (Normal Picture Mode)
This mode allows greater freedom by changing various settings in the [Rec] menu.
- Press [MODE] [mode button].
- Select [Normal Picture] using cursor buttons and press [MENU/SET] [menu/set button].
- Aim the AF area at the desired focus point.
- Press the shutter button halfway to focus. Aperture value [F3.1] and shutter speed [1/60] are displayed.
- Press the shutter button fully to take the picture.
Focusing
Aim the AF area at the subject and press the shutter button halfway. A focus indication [green] appears when focused. If not focused, it blinks [red].
Focus Range: Displayed when operating zoom. Ranges from 3 cm (W) to 1.5 m (T) in Intelligent Auto Mode.
Note: If the subject is not in focus, aim the AF area, press halfway to fix focus/exposure, hold halfway, recompose, then press fully. Difficult subjects include fast-moving, low-contrast, or distant/near subjects simultaneously.
Recording Motion Pictures
Record motion pictures in QuickTime Motion JPEG format.
- Press the motion picture button [motion picture button] to start recording. An available recording time [R 1m07s] and elapsed time [3s] are displayed. The recording state indicator [red] flashes.
- Press the motion picture button [motion picture button] again to stop recording.
Note: Zooming while recording may capture operation sound. Zoom speed is slower. Motion pictures can be recorded continuously up to 2 GB.
Playing Back Pictures
- Press the [ (Playback)] button [playback button].
- Use cursor buttons [2/1] to select pictures. File number [100-0001] and picture number [1/5] are displayed.
Playing Back Motion Pictures: Select a picture with the motion picture icon [ ] and press [3] to play. Use cursor buttons for playback control.
Displaying Multiple Screens (Multi Playback)
Rotate the zoom lever towards [L] [zoom out] to display multiple screens (1, 12, 30, or Calendar view).
Using the Playback Zoom
Rotate the zoom lever towards [Z] [zoom in] to enlarge the picture. Use cursor buttons to move the zoomed area.
Deleting Pictures
Once deleted, pictures cannot be recovered.
- To delete a single picture: Select the picture and press the [ ] (Delete) button [delete button]. Confirm deletion.
- To delete multiple pictures (up to 50) or all pictures: Press the [ ] (Delete) button [delete button], select [Delete Multi] or [Delete All], and follow prompts.
Note: Protected pictures cannot be deleted. Do not turn off the camera while deleting.
Setting the Menu
Use the [MENU/SET] button [menu/set button] to access various settings.
- [Rec] Menu: For recording settings (P75).
- [Motion Picture] Menu: For motion picture settings (P86).
- [Playback] Menu: For editing and managing recorded pictures (P93).
- [Setup] Menu: For camera settings like clock, language, etc. (P41).
- [Wi-Fi] Menu: For Wi-Fi connectivity settings (P99).
Using the Quick Menu: Press [Q.MENU] [quick menu button] for quick access to frequently used settings.
Recording
Taking Pictures of Yourself ([Self Shot])
Rotate the monitor to activate [Self Shot Mode].
- Rotate the monitor. A mirror image is displayed.
- Press [MENU/SET] [menu/set button] to set options like [Soft Skin] and [Shot Count].
- Pose while looking at the monitor.
- Press the shutter button halfway to focus, then fully to take the picture. A countdown starts.
Note: [Self Shot] can also be configured via the [Rec] menu (P49). Panorama pictures can also be taken in Self Shot Mode (P50).
Using the Zoom
Rotate the zoom lever [zoom lever symbol] towards [T] (Tele) to zoom in, or towards [W] (Wide) to zoom out.
Zoom Types:
- Optical Zoom: Max. 12x, no image quality deterioration.
- Extended Optical Zoom (EZ): Max. 27x (includes optical zoom), available for certain picture sizes (P54).
- Intelligent Zoom: Up to 2x magnification with minimized quality loss (P54).
- Digital Zoom: Up to 4x magnification, image quality deteriorates with further zoom (P54).
Taking Pictures Using the Built-in Flash
Press the [ ] (Flash setting) button [flash setting icon] to cycle through flash modes:
- [Auto] [ ]: Flash activates automatically when needed.
- [Auto/Red-Eye] [ ]: Reduces red-eye before firing flash.
- [Forced Flash On] [ ]: Flash always fires.
- [Slow Sync./Red-Eye] [ ]: Slow shutter speed with flash for dark backgrounds, reduces red-eye.
- [Forced Flash Off] [OE]: Flash never fires.
Note: Available flash settings vary by recording mode. Flash range is approximate (e.g., Wide: 0.6m to 5.2m).
Taking Pictures with the Self-timer
Press the [] (Self-timer) button [self-timer icon] to select a delay ([10sec.], [2sec.], or [OFF]). Press the shutter button to start the countdown.
Note: Useful for avoiding camera shake when using a tripod.
Compensating the Exposure
Press the [] (Exposure compensation) button [exposure compensation icon] to adjust exposure value (EV) when there is a large difference in brightness between the subject and background.
Taking Pictures with different image effects (Creative Control Mode)
Select [Creative Control Mode] to apply 15 types of effects before recording, such as [Expressive], [Retro], [Toy Effect], [Miniature Effect], etc. Preview the effect on the screen.
Taking panorama pictures (Panorama Shot Mode)
In [Panorama Shot Mode], pictures are combined to create a single panorama. Select recording direction and apply effects. Pan the camera smoothly in the indicated direction while pressing the shutter button.
Taking pictures that match the scene being recorded (Scene Mode)
Select from 15 Scene Modes like [Portrait], [Scenery], [Night Portrait], [Food], [Baby1]/[Baby2], etc., for optimized settings.
Using the [Rec] Menu
Access settings like [Picture Size], [Sensitivity], [White Balance], [AF Mode], [Burst Shooting], etc.
- [Picture Size]: Sets resolution (e.g., 16M, 3M).
- [Sensitivity]: Sets ISO sensitivity (e.g., AUTO, 100-1600).
- [White Balance]: Adjusts color balance for different lighting conditions (e.g., AWB, Daylight, Cloudy).
- [AF Mode]: Selects autofocus method ([Face Detection], [9-Area], [1-Area]).
- [Burst Shooting]: Takes continuous pictures ([Burst On], [Hi-Speed Burst]).
- [AF Assist Lamp]: Illuminates subject for focus in low light ([ON]/[OFF]).
- [Red-Eye Removal]: Automatically corrects red-eye ([ON]/[OFF]).
- [Stabilizer]: Reduces camera shake ([ON]/[OFF]).
- [Date Stamp]: Adds date/time to pictures ([W/O TIME], [WITH TIME], [OFF]).
- [Self Shot]: Configures Self Shot Mode settings ([ON], [OFF], [SET]).
Playback/Editing
Various methods of playback
Press the [ (Playback)] button [playback button] to enter playback mode. Select playback methods like [All] (P35), [Slide Show] (P88), [Category Selection] (P90), or [Calendar] (P91).
Having Fun with Recorded Pictures ([Creative Retouch])
Apply image effects similar to Creative Control Mode to existing pictures. Processed pictures are saved as new files.
Using the [Playback] Menu
Access options like:
- [Location Logging]: Adds GPS location data received from a smartphone.
- [Creative Retouch]: Applies effects to recorded pictures (P92).
- [Resize]: Reduces picture size for web or email (SINGLE/MULTI).
- [Cropping]: Zooms in and clips a portion of the picture.
- [Protect]: Sets protection for pictures to prevent accidental deletion (SINGLE/MULTI).
- [Copy]: Copies pictures between built-in memory and card.
Wi-Fi Connectivity
Wi-Fi® function
Use the camera as a wireless LAN device. Requires a wireless access point or a destination device with Wi-Fi. Ensure security measures like encryption are used.
Note: Use is presumed in countries where the camera is sold. Risk of data interception exists.
Wi-Fi connection lamp: Blue (standby), Blinking blue (sending/receiving).
[Wi-Fi] button: Accesses connection options like [New Connection], [History Connection], [Favorite Connection], [Wi-Fi Setup].
Controlling with a Smartphone/Tablet
Install the "Panasonic Image App" on your smartphone/tablet.
Functions:
- Remote recording (P107)
- Playing back pictures in the camera (P107)
- Saving images stored in the camera (P108)
- Sending location information to the camera (P109)
Connecting: Press and hold [Wi-Fi] button [Wi-Fi button] or use the menu [New Connection]. Follow on-screen instructions for iOS or Android devices, using QR code or SSID/password.
Terminating connection: Press [ ] button [cancel button] and confirm, then close the app on the smartphone.
When sending images to PC
Transfer pictures and motion pictures to a PC via USB connection or Wi-Fi.
Methods:
- Send Images While Recording: Pictures are sent automatically after recording (P114).
- Send Images Stored in the Camera: Select and send specific images (P115).
- Smart Transfer: Automatically transfers images to a PC when connected to AC adaptor (P116). Requires initial setup.
Note: Ensure PC folders are prepared for receiving images. Firewall settings may affect connection.
About Connections
Select connection method: [Via Network] (connects via wireless access point) or [Direct] (connects directly to destination device).
Connecting to a PC (via a network): Options include WPS (Push-Button, PIN code) or [From List] (search for access points) or [Manual Input].
Connecting to a smartphone/tablet (direct connection): Enter SSID and password or scan QR code.
Connecting quickly: Use [History Connection] or [Favorite Connection] for previously used settings.
[Wi-Fi Setup] Menu
Configure settings like [Smart Transfer], [PC Connection] (workgroup name), [Device Name], [Wi-Fi Password], [Network Address] (MAC/IP address).
Connecting to other equipment
Playing Back Pictures on a TV Screen
Connect the camera to a TV using an optional AV cable (DMW-AVC1). Set the [TV Aspect] on the camera. Turn on the TV, select external input, then turn on the camera and press the [ (Playback)] button [playback button].
Note: Motion pictures recorded in [HD] may not display in HD quality on TV. Picture aspect ratios may vary.
Saving still pictures and motion pictures on your PC
Connect the camera to a PC with the supplied USB connection cable. The camera appears as a drive ([LUMIX]). Drag and drop files and folders to the PC.
Note: PCs may support direct card reading. Ensure safe disconnection after transfer.
Printing the Pictures
Connect the camera to a PictBridge-compatible printer using the USB cable. Select single or multiple pictures for printing. Set print options like [Print with Date], [Num.of prints], [Paper Size], [Page Layout].
Others
Screen Display
Information displayed on the monitor during recording and playback, including recording mode, battery status, file numbers, recording quality, etc.
Message Display
Lists common confirmation and error messages and their solutions (e.g., "Memory card full", "Built-in memory error", "System Error").
Troubleshooting
Provides solutions for common issues:
- Battery and power source: Camera won't operate, turns off immediately, won't turn off, charging errors.
- Recording: Picture not recorded, whitish picture, blurred picture, noise, incorrect colors, motion recording stops, panorama recording issues, slow burst speed.
- Monitor: Darker/brighter momentarily, flickering, dots, noise.
- Flash: Not activated, activated multiple times.
- Playback: Picture not played back, incorrect dates, white spots, red-eye issues, motion picture sound breaks up.
- Wi-Fi: Connection failures, slow connection, device not displayed, image transmission failures.
- TV, PC, Printer: Picture not on TV, incorrect display areas, motion pictures not playing on TV, PC communication issues, card not recognized, printing problems.
Note: Try [Reset] (P45) on the [Setup] menu if problems persist.
Cautions for Use
Guidelines for optimal use and care of the camera:
- Keep away from electromagnetic equipment.
- Use supplied cords and cables.
- Do not spray with insecticides or volatile chemicals.
- Cleaning: Use a dry, soft cloth. Avoid solvents.
- Monitor: Do not press excessively. Note that dark/bright spots on the screen are normal.
- Lens: Keep clean. Do not force open the lens barrier. Do not point lens at the sun.
- Battery: Rechargeable lithium-ion. Remove after use. Handle with care.
