BEKA BA484D & BA488C Intrinsically Safe Modbus RTU Displays
Product Overview
The BA484D (field mounting) and BA488C (panel mounting) are low-cost operator interfaces incorporating Modbus RTU, BEKA, and a Legacy protocol. These intrinsically safe instruments are designed for hazardous areas, featuring push-buttons and two solid-state outputs that can display text and simple graphics. They are ideal for simple machine and process control applications.

Intrinsic Safety and Certifications
Both models have IECEx, ATEX, and UKEX gas certification, plus other approvals, such as FM. The field mounting model (BA484D) has optional dust certification.

Special Conditions for Safe Use
For BA484D used in a dust atmosphere, dust certification is an option. Confirm the correct model by checking the product label before installation in a dust atmosphere. Installation in Zone 0 shall ensure that ignition due to impact between iron/steel and the aluminium label of field mounting models, or the aluminium enclosure of panel mounting models, is excluded.
Installation and Connections
BA484D Field Mounting Installation
The BA484D field mounting unit has a height of 212 mm and a width of 141 mm. It features two M6 clearance holes for surface mounting. The unit has a depth of 72 mm and includes a separate terminal compartment with a height of 91 mm and width of 117 mm. This compartment has cable entries tapped for M20 x 1.5 and is supplied with two IP66 stopping plugs and one temporary hole plug.
BA488C Panel Mounting Installation
The BA488C panel mounting unit has a width of 144 mm and a height of 84 mm, with a panel depth of 11 mm. It is secured using panel mounting clamps, with a maximum torque of 22 cNm (1.95 lbf in). The display cutout required for the panel is 136.0 mm (+0.5/-0.0 mm) in width and 66.2 mm (+0.5/-0.0 mm) in height to achieve an IP66 seal.
Terminal Connections: BA484D Field Mounting
The BA484D field mounting unit shows terminal connections for optional external switches (terminals S1 through S7) and switch outputs (terminals A1 through A4).
Terminal Connections: BA488C Panel Mounting
The BA488C panel mounting unit shows terminal connections for switch outputs (terminals S1 through S7) and optional external switches (terminals 1 through 6).
Connections Diagram Description
The diagram illustrates the connection of up to two BA484D or BA488C units to a BA201 communication isolator. The BA201 facilitates selectable RS232 or RS485 communication. For RS232, connections are made via a 9-way D-type connector, using pins 8 (Tx), 9 (Rx), and 7 (Comm). For RS485, pins 10 (B) and 11 (A) are used. The units also require a power supply of +35V dc (terminals 13 and 14).
