⚠️ WARNING: DO NOT USE IN-TANK DROP-IN TOILET BOWL CLEANERS CONTAINING BLEACH OR CHLORINE. Use of such products will result in damage to tank components, may cause flooding and property damage, and will void the Fluidmaster warranty. Fluidmaster Flush 'n Sparkle™ Toilet Bowl Cleaning System is recommended and will not void the warranty.
DO NOT overtighten nuts, as the tank/bowl may crack. Always use quality Fluidmaster parts during installation or repair. Fluidmaster is not responsible for damage caused by non-Fluidmaster parts.
Parts Overview
The kit includes the following main components:
- DUO FLUSH™ Valve: Saves water by allowing selection between half and full flushes.
- Dual Action Handle: Allows flushing UP for a half flush and DOWN for a full flush.
- Angled Seat Adapter: Necessary only if your toilet has a plastic ANGLED FLUSH VALVE SEAT.
Items Needed: Sponge or Towel
Identifying Your Flush Valve Seat
This section helps identify the type of flush valve seat in your toilet tank:
- Flat Seat: If your plastic flush valve seat is flat, proceed to Section 3.
- Angled Seat: If your plastic flush valve seat is angled, you will need the ANGLED SEAT ADAPTER. Follow instructions in Section 2.
- Brass Seat: If your flush valve seat is brass, contact Fluidmaster technical support or replace the brass flush valve with a Fluidmaster 507A Flush Valve.
Note: This device is not intended for 1.28 or 1.0 gpf toilets. Performance may vary on different toilet models.
Compatibility Notes: Certain 1-piece toilets with low-boy tanks (less than 8" height) and Kohler Side-Mount Valves may have specific requirements or incompatibilities.
Ballcock Fill Valves: Can be replaced with Fluidmaster's PerforMAX™ FILL VALVE 400ARHR. Requires installation of a 2" flapper flush valve (not included).
Section 1: Preparing to Install the DUO FLUSH™ Valve
- Shut off the water supply to your toilet. Flush the toilet to drain the tank. Sponge out any remaining water.
- Remove the existing flapper, chain, and flush handle assembly. Note that the locknut for the flush handle is typically reverse-threaded and needs to be turned clockwise to loosen.
Section 2: Installing the Angled Seat Adapter (If Needed)
Proper installation of the ANGLED SEAT ADAPTER is critical to prevent leaks. Ensure the sealant ring is properly applied.
- Identify your flush valve seat type (Flat, Angled, or Brass). Follow the appropriate step based on your seat type.
- Clean the existing FLUSH VALVE SEAT with warm soapy water and a scrub pad. Dry the seat and surrounding area.
- Remove the paper backing from the SEALANT RING on the bottom of the ANGLED SEAT ADAPTER. Do not remove the ring itself.
- Locate the yellow alignment arrow on the back of the ANGLED SEAT ADAPTER. Align this arrow towards the plastic OVERFLOW PIPE and firmly press the adapter onto the FLUSH VALVE SEAT. The sealant ring will spread to create a seal.
Troubleshooting for Angled Seat Adapter Installation
Ensure the SEALANT RING provides complete coverage:
- ✔️ Correct Application (B, E, F): The sealant ring should cover ribbed areas and hug the adapter wall without gaps. Maintain original shape and thickness.
- ❌ Incorrect Application (A, C, D): Avoid pressing the sealant ring too hard (C), which deforms it. Ensure it is close enough to the adapter wall (D) and covers the front opening (E, F). Overlap should be approximately 1/8 inch.
Section 3: Installing the DUO FLUSH™ Valve
- Remove any foam material around the ADJUSTMENT DIALS ⚙️.
- Locate the white arrow on the SNAP-ON MOUNT and align it facing the OVERFLOW PIPE. Do not install the valve yet.
- Ensure the FLUSH CABLE is not sharply bent or kinked.
- Press the DUO FLUSH™ valve onto the seat.
Section 4: Installing the Dual Action Handle
- Remove the HANDLE from its packaging.
- Unthread the LOCKNUT from the HANDLE by turning it clockwise (this loosens it).
- Insert the HANDLE into the toilet tank's lever hole. Use the LEVER GASKET (optional) if the handle feels loose.
- Install the nut onto the handle threads by turning counter-clockwise to tighten. Use the LEVER GASKET if needed for a snug fit.
- Ensure the HANDLE is positioned horizontally.
- Attach the HANDLE ACTUATOR to the COLLAR on the HANDLE. Push the BLUE BUTTON on top of the ACTUATOR down, insert the COLLAR into the ACTUATOR, and release the button to secure.
Section 5: Water Level Adjustment: Half Flush
The ADJUSTMENT DIAL with the GREEN DISC controls the half flush.
- Ensure both half and full flush settings are at "MAX" before adjusting.
- To adjust, push the dial down and turn.
- Start with the green dial at "MAX".
- Test the half flush: Drop 3 pieces of toilet paper into the bowl and rotate the HANDLE upward.
- If the flush is successful, adjust the setting to the next lower numbered setting and repeat the test.
- Continue adjusting to lower numbers until the flush is unsuccessful.
- Set the dial to the last successful flush setting.
Section 6: Water Level Adjustment: Full Flush
The ADJUSTMENT DIAL with the BLUE DISC controls the full flush.
- Start the blue dial 1 setting higher than the half flush setting.
- Test the full flush: Drop 3 pieces of toilet paper into the bowl and rotate the HANDLE downward.
- If the flush is successful, keep the setting as is.
- If the contents do not flush completely, adjust the setting to the next highest number and repeat the test.
DUO FLUSH™ Troubleshooting
1. Tank Lid Interference on Half (Upward) Flush
Problem: Tank lever hits the tank lid.
Solution: Remove the handle actuator by holding its top end and pressing the BLUE BUTTON to release. Rotate the handle downward and reinsert the actuator. If the lever still doesn't fit, visit www.fluidmaster.com or call support.
2. Seal Leaking
Problem: The seal leaks water, causing water loss in the tank.
Solution: Remove the handle actuator. Gently rock and pull the Duo Flush valve upwards to release it. Clean the seat and inspect the piston seal at the bottom, ensuring it is centered. Reattach the Duo Flush and handle actuator. Check for leaks after turning the water back on. Refer to Angled Seat Adapter troubleshooting if applicable.
3. Unused Parts
Problem: Parts are left over from the kit.
Solution: Depending on your toilet's flush valve type, some parts (like the angled seat adapter) may not be needed.
4. Half Flush Will Not Adequately Remove Waste
Problem: Insufficient flushing power for half flush.
Solution: Check the water level. Increase the HALF FLUSH ADJUSTMENT DIAL (Green) setting to allow more water. The water level must be higher than the bottom of the oval opening on the side of the Duo Flush™.
5. Full Flush Will Not Adequately Remove Waste
Problem: Insufficient flushing power for full flush.
Solution: Check the water level. Increase the FULL FLUSH ADJUSTMENT DIAL (Blue) setting to allow more water. The water level must be higher than the bottom of the oval opening on the side of the Duo Flush™.
6. Angled Seat Adapter Removal
Solution: To remove the ANGLED SEAT ADAPTER, pull it upward firmly to release it from the FLUSH VALVE SEAT.
7. Full Flush & Half Flush Closes Immediately
Problem: Flush cycle ends prematurely.
Solution: The water level must be higher than the bottom of the oval opening on the side of the Duo Flush™.
