Suggested Arrangement of Food
For optimum storage and hygiene:
- Fridge compartment: For short-term storage of fresh food and drinks.
- Freezer compartment: Rated for freezing and storing pre-frozen food. Follow food packaging recommendations.
- Dairy products: Store in the special compartment in the door liner.
- Freezing fresh food: Pack in aluminium or plastic, cool in the fresh food compartment, then store on the freezer shelf (preferably the upper one).
- Cooked dishes: Store in airtight containers.
- Fresh produce: Keep on shelves. Clean and store fruits and vegetables in crispers.
- Bottles: Store in the door section.
- Raw meat and poultry: Wrap in polythene bags and place on the lowest shelf. Keep separate from cooked food to avoid contamination. Store for a maximum of two to three days.
- Shelves: Do not cover shelves with paper or other materials to allow free air circulation.
- Door shelves: Do not store vegetable oil. Keep food packed, wrapped, or covered. Cool hot food and beverages before refrigerating. Do not store leftover canned food in the can.
- Drinks: Do not freeze fizzy drinks or flavoured water ices.
- Fruit and Vegetables: Some items (e.g., pineapples, melons, cucumbers) may be damaged near 0°C. Wrap them in polythene bags.
- Alcohol: Store high-proof alcohol upright in tightly closed containers. Never store products with flammable propellant gas or explosive substances.
Temperature Control and Adjustment
Operating temperatures are controlled by the thermostat knob, adjustable from 1 (warmest) to 5 (coldest). Position '0' turns the appliance off, and the interior light will not work.
The average fridge temperature should be around +5°C (+41°F). Adjust the thermostat to achieve the desired temperature. Some areas may be cooler or warmer, which is normal. Periodically check the temperature with a thermometer. Frequent door openings increase internal temperature; close doors promptly.
Before Operating
Final Check:
- Ensure feet are adjusted for perfect leveling.
- Verify the interior is dry and air can circulate freely at the rear.
- Confirm the interior is clean, as per "Cleaning and Care" instructions.
- Check the plug is inserted and electricity is switched on. The interior light should illuminate when the door is open.
Notes:
- A noise from the compressor starting is normal. Other system noises are also normal.
- Slight undulation of the cabinet top is normal due to the manufacturing process.
- Set the thermostat knob to the midway position and monitor temperatures to ensure desired storage conditions.
- Do not load the appliance immediately after switching on. Wait until the correct storage temperature is reached.
Storing Frozen Food
The freezer is suitable for long-term storage of commercially frozen foods and for freezing/storing fresh food. In case of power failure, do not open the door. Frozen food should remain safe if the failure lasts less than 13 hours. If longer, check food and consume or cook and refreeze.
Freezing Fresh Food
For best results, do not freeze too large a quantity at once. Freeze food quickly to preserve quality. Avoid exceeding the 24-hour freezing capacity. Placing warm food in the freezer may cause continuous operation. Keep the thermostat knob at a medium position for freezing fresh food. Small quantities (up to 0.5 kg) can be frozen without adjusting the knob. Do not mix already frozen and fresh food.
Making Ice Cubes
Fill ice cube trays 3/4 full with water and place in the freezer. Loosen frozen trays with a spoon handle; never use sharp objects like knives or forks.
Defrosting
A) Fridge Compartment
The fridge compartment defrosts automatically. Defrost water drains to a collection container at the back (Item 5). Water droplets may form and refreeze on the liner. Do not use sharp objects to remove refrozen droplets. If the drain tube is blocked, check for food particles. Clear the tube with a pipe-cleaner or similar implement. Ensure the tube's end is correctly placed in the collecting tray to prevent spills (Item 6).
B) Freezer Compartment
Defrosting is straightforward. Defrost twice a year or when frost reaches about 7 mm (1/4 inch). To defrost, switch off the appliance, unplug it, and wrap all food in newspaper, storing it in a cool place. Warm water containers can be placed carefully in the freezer to speed up defrosting. Do not use sharp objects or electrical appliances for defrosting. Sponge out collected defrost water.
After defrosting, dry the interior thoroughly, plug in the appliance, and switch on the electricity.
Replacing the Interior Light Bulb
To change the light bulb/LED, contact your Authorised Service. The lamps used are not suitable for household room illumination and must withstand extreme physical conditions (e.g., temperatures below -20°C).
Cleaning and Care
- Switch off the appliance and unplug the mains plug before cleaning.
- Never use sharp instruments, abrasive substances, soap, household cleaner, detergent, or wax polish.
- Clean the appliance cabinet with lukewarm water and wipe dry.
- Clean the interior with a damp cloth wrung out in a solution of one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda per pint of water, then wipe dry.
- Ensure no water enters the temperature control box.
- If the appliance is not used for a long period, switch it off, remove food, clean it, and leave the door ajar.
- Polish metal parts (door exterior, cabinet sides) with a silicone wax (car polish) to protect the paint finish.
- Clean the condenser at the back of the appliance annually with a vacuum cleaner.
- Check door seals regularly for cleanliness.
- Never use unsuitable materials (e.g., petroleum-based products), expose to high temperatures, or scour with abrasive material.
- Removal of dairy cover and door tray: Lift the dairy cover about an inch and pull it off from the side with an opening. For door trays, remove contents and push the tray upwards from the base.
- Ensure the defrost water collection container at the back is always clean.
To clean the tray, switch off, unplug, gently uncrimp the stud on the compressor with pliers to remove the tray, lift, clean, dry, and reassemble.
Large ice accumulation impairs freezer performance.
Repositioning the Door
Proceed in numerical order (Item 7).
Do's and Don'ts
Do:
- Clean and defrost regularly.
- Store raw meat and poultry below cooked food and dairy products.
- Remove unusable leaves from vegetables and wipe off soil.
- Leave lettuce, cabbage, parsley, and cauliflower on the stem.
- Wrap cheese first in greaseproof paper, then in a polythene bag, removing as much air as possible. Take out of the fridge an hour before eating.
- Wrap raw meat and poultry loosely in polythene or aluminium foil to prevent drying.
- Wrap fish and offal in polythene bags.
- Wrap food with a strong odour or prone to drying in polythene bags or aluminium foil, or use airtight containers.
- Wrap bread well to keep it fresh.
- Chill white wines, beer, lager, and mineral water before serving.
- Check freezer contents periodically.
- Keep food for the shortest time possible, adhering to 'Best Before' and 'Use by' dates.
- Store commercially frozen food according to packet instructions.
- Choose high-quality fresh food and ensure it is thoroughly clean before freezing.
- Prepare fresh food in small portions for rapid freezing.
- Wrap all food in aluminium foil or freezer-quality polythene bags, excluding air.
- Wrap frozen food immediately after purchase and place it in the freezer promptly.
- Defrost food in the fridge compartment.
Don't:
- Store bananas in the fridge compartment.
- Store melon in the fridge unless wrapped to prevent flavouring other food.
- Cover shelves with materials that obstruct air circulation.
- Store poisonous or dangerous substances; the appliance is for edible foodstuffs only.
- Consume food refrigerated for excessively long periods.
- Store cooked and fresh food together; package and store them separately.
- Let defrosting food or juices drip onto food.
- Leave the door open for long periods, as this increases running costs and ice formation.
- Use sharp objects (knives, forks) to remove ice.
- Put hot food into the appliance; let it cool first.
- Put liquid-filled bottles or sealed cans with carbonated liquids into the freezer, as they may burst.
- Exceed maximum freezing loads.
- Give children ice cream or water ices directly from the freezer, as the low temperature can cause 'freezer burns'.
- Freeze fizzy drinks.
- Try to keep thawed frozen food; eat within 24 hours or cook and refreeze.
- Remove items from the freezer with wet hands.
Troubleshooting
If the appliance does not operate when switched on:
- Check if the plug is properly inserted and the power supply is on. (Test the socket with another appliance).
- Check if the fuse has blown, circuit breaker tripped, or main switch is off.
- Verify the temperature control is set correctly.
- If a new plug was fitted, ensure it is wired correctly.
If the appliance still does not operate after these checks, contact the dealer. A charge may apply if no fault is found.
