Getting Started

This section guides you through unboxing and setting up your Yealink WH66 Mono or Dual DECT Headset.

Package Contents

The package typically includes:

  • Base: The central unit for charging and connectivity.
  • Mono or Dual Headset: The wearable headset unit.
  • Power Adapter: For powering the base unit.
  • USB-C to USB-A Cable 1.0M: For connecting the base to a PC or desk phone.
  • USB-A to USB-A USB Cable 1.0M: (Note: This may be a typo in the original document, likely intended for a different connection or accessory).
  • Quick Start Guide: A brief setup guide.

Important Notes:

  • Use only the included accessories to avoid compatibility issues.
  • Ensure the base is connected to a DC power supply, not solely via USB power.
  • The included USB-A to USB-C cable is provided for future wireless charging functionality.

Connecting the Headset

The base unit features several connection ports:

  • Connect to Power Supply: Connect the power adapter here.
  • Connect to Desk Phone: For connecting to a compatible desk phone.
  • Connect to PC: For connecting to a computer.
  • USB Hub: Allows connection to USB flash drives or mobile devices.
  • Connect Busylight: (Available soon).

Connecting via USB Cable

Connect one end of the included USB cable to the 'PC' port on the base and the other end to a USB port on your PC or desk phone. Ensure you use the port specifically marked 'PC' on the base.

Charging the Headset

  • Dock the headset into the charger on the base.
  • For initial use, ensure the headset is docked for at least 30 minutes.
  • The headset is automatically paired with the base upon initial docking.

Yealink USB Connect Software

Yealink provides the Yealink USB Connect software, a device manager client for personalizing and managing your Yealink Headsets. Download it from the Yealink website at https://www.yealink.com/product/yuc. For more details, refer to the Yealink USB Connect Quick Reference Guide available at www.northland.net/support.

Connecting the WH66 via Bluetooth

Connecting to a PC

You can connect the base to a PC via Bluetooth, offering a range of approximately 100 feet. Note that using the built-in Bluetooth for PC connection may limit call control features to voice pickup and audio playback only, without headset display call control.

Steps:

  1. On your PC, navigate to Settings > Bluetooth and ensure Bluetooth is enabled.
  2. On the headset base, tap the Bluetooth icon [Bluetooth Icon].
  3. Tap 'Basic Settings', then 'Bluetooth'. The base will enter pairing mode.
  4. On your PC, select 'Add Bluetooth or other device'.
  5. When 'Yealink WH66' appears on your PC display, select it to complete the pairing.

Connecting to a Desk Phone

The Yealink T54W and Yealink T58A desk phones are compatible with the WH66 DECT Headset for Bluetooth connection.

Steps:

  1. On the headset base, tap the Bluetooth icon [Bluetooth Icon]. The base enters pairing mode.
  2. On your compatible desk phone, enable Bluetooth and select 'Yealink WH66'.

Connecting to a Smart Phone

Connect the base to a smartphone via Bluetooth.

Steps:

  1. On the headset base, tap the Bluetooth icon [Bluetooth Icon]. The base enters pairing mode.
  2. On your smartphone, enable Bluetooth and select 'Yealink WH66'.

Base and Headset Controls

Base Controls

The base unit features the following controls:

  • 1 Power LED: Indicates the base status.
  • 2 Touch Screen: Displays headset battery status, connection status, and allows menu navigation.
  • 3 Speaker: Provides hands-free speakerphone audio output.
  • 4 Microphone: Captures audio for hands-free speakerphone use.

Headset Controls

The headset unit features the following controls:

  • 1 Mute Button: Toggles the microphone on or off.
  • 2 Volume Up Control: Increases the in-ear volume.
  • 3 Status and Busylight LED: Indicates charging and call status.
  • 4 Call Control Button: Manages calls (answer, end, hold, reject).
  • 5 Volume Down Control: Decreases the in-ear volume.

Call Handling from the Headset

Note: When using MaX UC, all call control should be managed via the MaX UC application, not the headset or base.

  • Answer a Call: Press the Call Control button [Call Control Button] or undock the headset (if Auto Answer is enabled).
  • End a Call: Press the Call Control button [Call Control Button] or dock the headset.
  • Reject a Call: Double-press the Call Control button [Call Control Button].
  • Hold a Call: Press and hold the Call Control button [Call Control Button] for two seconds.
  • Resume Held Call: Press and hold the Call Control button [Call Control Button] for two seconds.
  • Adjust Volume: Press the Volume Up/Down controls [Volume Up/Down Controls].
  • Mute/Unmute: Press the Mute button [Mute Button]. Alternatively, adjust the microphone boom. An audible announcement and LED indicator will confirm mute status.

Base and Headset Settings

Settings can be adjusted via the WH66 base or the Yealink USB Connect application.

Changing the Default Outgoing Dialer Device

When multiple devices are connected, select the default outgoing dialer:

  1. Tap the Audio Device card for the desired device on the base's touch screen.
  2. In the upper right corner, tap the menu icon [...].
  3. Select 'Set as audio device'.

Note: The menu option '...' is only visible for devices not currently set as the default.

Basic Settings

Access basic settings by tapping the headset icon [Headset Icon] on the base, then selecting 'Basic Settings'.

General Settings

  • Language: Select the screen text language from a list of 13 options.
  • Bluetooth: Enable or disable Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Add Headset: Pair additional headsets to the base (up to four).
  • Time & Date: Manually set the time and date.
  • Busylight: Availability from Northland is pending.

Display Settings

  • Backlight: Adjust backlight level and timeout.
  • Screensaver: Configure the screensaver waiting time.
  • Themes: Change the background and card style.

Sound Settings

  • Ring Tones: Enable/disable the base's built-in ringtone for incoming calls.
  • Dial Tone: Enable/disable the headset playing a dial tone when dialing.
  • Keypad Tone: Enable/disable audible feedback for keypad presses.
  • Speaker Volume: Adjust the playback volume.

Advanced Settings

Access advanced settings by tapping the headset icon [Headset Icon] on the base, then selecting 'Advanced Settings'.

General Settings

  • Wireless Range: Select the wireless range:
    • Long: Approximately 500 feet.
    • Medium: Approximately 100 feet.
    • Short: Approximately 33 feet.
  • Voice Announcement: Enable or disable voice announcements on the headset.
  • Platform: Availability from Northland is pending.

Call Settings

  • Auto Dial: Enable or disable the base to automatically dial entered numbers within 5 seconds.
  • Call Device: Select the device for outgoing calls.
  • Call Priority: Determine priority for incoming calls:
    • New call: Places the current call on hold and activates the new call.
    • Current call: Keeps the current call active and the new call rings.
  • Autoanswer when Undocked: Enable or disable answering calls by simply undocking the headset.
  • Open Line when Undocked: Enable or disable entering the dialing screen when undocking the headset.

Hearing Protection Settings

  • Anti-Startle Protection: Configure hearing protection technology.
  • Daily Noise Exposure: Configure daily noise exposure levels (options include No limiting, 80dBA, or 85dBA).

Call Handling from the Base

Note: When using MaX UC, all call control should be managed via the MaX UC application, not the headset or base.

Use the base's touch screen for call management:

  • Place a Call: Tap the desired device card, or tap the phone icon [Phone Icon] and enter the number.
  • Answer a Call: Tap the answer icon [Answer Icon].
  • End a Call: Tap the end call icon [End Call Icon].
  • Reject a Call: Tap the reject icon [Reject Icon].
  • Silence a Call: Tap the silence icon [Silence Icon].
  • Hold a Call: Tap the hold icon [Hold Icon].
  • Resume Held Call: Tap 'RESUME'.
  • Adjust Volume: Tap the volume up [Volume Up Icon] or down [Volume Down Icon] icons.
  • Mute/Unmute Microphone: Tap the mute icon [Mute Icon]. An audible announcement and LED indicator will confirm mute status.
  • Place a Second Call: Tap the 'New Call' icon [New Call Icon].

Transferring Calls Between Headset and Desk Phone

Move a Call from the Desk Phone to the Headset

Before you begin: The call is active on the desk phone's handset or speakerphone.

Procedure: Press the 'Headset Key' on the desk phone. The audio will transfer to the headset.

Move a Call from the Headset to the Desk Phone

Before you begin: The call is active on the headset.

Procedure: On the desk phone, either pick up the handset or press the speaker key. The audio will transfer to the desk phone.

Handling Multiple Calls from Headset

  • End Current Call and Answer Incoming Call: Press the Call Control button [Call Control Button].
  • Place Current Call on Hold and Answer Incoming Call: Hold the Call Control button [Call Control Button] for two seconds.
  • Switch Between Held Call and Active Call: Hold the Call Control button [Call Control Button] for two seconds.
  • Reject Incoming Call While on an Active Call: Double-press the Call Control Button [Call Control Button].
