LITHIUM BATTERIES (cont'd) LITHIUM BATTERIES INTRODUCTION Your wheelchair uses a lithium battery. The lithium battery weighs less than the gel battery and has a lifespan five times longer. We recommend that you read this guide carefully before using the battery for the first time. BATTERY To ensure proper battery use, care, and storage, it is important to read and understand all the warnings and instructions in this guide. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious bodily injury. · Thoroughly read all documents supplied with the battery. · Do not place the lithium battery on or near flames or a high heat source (> 70°C). This could not only cause the battery to overheat or catch fire, but also lead to a decrease of battery performance as well as reduced battery life. · Never short-circuit battery terminals. · Do not reverse the battery's polarity. · Do not open the battery. · Only use an approved charger with the battery. · Do not connect the charger if the battery is cracked or damaged. Always replace a damaged battery with a new battery. · In the rare event of an unusual operation, the battery may release some substances. Avoid contact with these substances and contact the authorized supplier immediately. · Do not let the battery withstand excessive mechanical stress. · Do not expose the battery to moisture or water (> 95 %). Operating temperature Room temperature must be between -4°F and 122°F (-20°C and +50°C.). 1 IG 1001919 TMK210823-1 R02 LITHIUM BATTERIES (cont'd) CHARGER The charger is necessary to ensure long battery life. It is designed to enhance the wheelchair's performance by charging its battery in a safe, quick, and effortless manner. · The battery charger only works when plugged into an electrical outlet. · Do not use the charger for any purpose other than the one described in this guide. · Do not let any liquid get into the charger. · Never insert conductive materials into the charger. · The battery can be charged directly from the controller. Plug the charger's connector cable into the controller and make sure that charger's red and blue LED indicator lights are on. When the battery is fully charged, the charger will automatically shut off and the LED indicator will turn green. · Refer to the charger's label for LED indicators and their purpose/performance. · When the battery is fully charged, unplug the charger from the electrical outlet first, then from the controller. NOTE Time required for a full charge of a 75 Ah battery is approximately 9 hours and for a 55 Ah battery is approximately 6 hours. If it takes more time than that, unplug the charger and contact your authorized supplier. Comment: If the battery is completely flat, the internal battery protection may prevent recharging. If this happens, unplug the charger for 30 minutes, then try again. If this does not work, contact your authorized supplier for assistance. OPTIMIZING THE WHEELCHAIR'S AUTONOMY Driving conditions, such as upward slopes, cracks in the pavement, uneven and poorly compacted surfaces, curves and even wind, can influence the distance or operating time of a battery's charge cycle. We recommend the following actions to optimize autonomy: a) Fully charge the battery every day b) Plan your trips to avoid slopes if possible c) Limit the weight of baggage content to essential items d) Try to maintain a consistent speed when driving and avoid rough starts and stops 2 IG 1001919 TMK210823-1 R02 LITHIUM BATTERIES (cont'd) Can I use a battery charger other than the one supplied to me? NO. It is very important to use the charger supplied with the chair. It's the safest and most efficient tool for charging the battery. We do not recommend the use of any other type of charger (for example, an automobile battery charger). BATTERY CHARGE INDICATORS · The indicator only works with a lithium battery. · Do not attempt to repair the display or its cable. Replace entire device if needed. · Pressing the button on the display alternates posts between a) turning display on/off, b) showing voltage value (V) and c) battery capacity (%). Turn off the display when the chair is not in use. · The battery charge level is shown through the number of LED indicator lights on the display screen. The table below defines the different levels. LED INDICATORS 7 bars 6 bars 5 bars 4 bars 3 bars Battery capacity displayed while moving 100% to 75% 75% to 70% 70% to 50% Battery needs to be charged 50% to 40% Battery needs to be charged immediately. This means that there is hardly any energy left in the battery, therefore the risk of breaking down is high. · It is normal to see the voltage value on the display drop by 2 V or 3 V during high energy demand (for example, during acceleration, when the user is going up a hill). WARNING! · Failure to follow the instructions contained in this guide can lead to reduced autonomy and battery life. · Never use this battery for other purposes. · Use only the charger supplied with the wheelchair. It is prohibited to use any other charger. 4 IG 1001919 TMK210823-1 R02Adobe PDF Library 24.2.255
