S1-CVD090T01 / S1-CVD135T01 Central Ventilating Dehumidifier Owner's Manual

READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

Thank you for purchasing the Central Ventilating Dehumidifier. This unit is designed to remove humidity from your home, maintaining a comfortable humidity level and reducing the effects of high humidity. It controls humidity entering the home from open doors and infiltration. To further reduce home humidity, close windows, doors, and fireplace flues when outdoor humidity is high, and dry clothes outside. Activities like whirlpool tubs and saunas increase home humidity. Direct exhaust from kitchen vents and bath fans is recommended for humidity from cooking and showers. This dehumidifier is not designed to eliminate window condensation in winter and operates best when indoor temperatures are above 65°F (18°C).

WHOLE HOME DEHUMIDIFICATION

The Central Ventilating Dehumidifier manages the humidity level throughout your entire home. A powerful internal blower draws air into the cabinet, where it is filtered and moisture is removed. The dry air is then discharged back into the home. Inside, a sealed refrigeration system cools air below its dew point, causing moisture to condense. This condensed moisture drains via a drain tube to a floor drain, eliminating the need for daily emptying. After moisture removal, the air passes over a second coil to be reheated before re-entering the home. It is normal for the outgoing air to be warmer than the incoming air.

SETTING THE DESIRED HUMIDITY LEVEL

The humidity control knob on the inlet side of the unit sets the desired humidity level, ranging from 1 (less dry, less operation) to 7 (more dry, more operation), or can be used to turn the dehumidifier OFF. The main ON/OFF switch on the front should remain ON, used only for maintenance. For initial setup, set the control to a 'Normal' level, typically between 3 and 4. Allow the dehumidifier to run for 24 hours before adjusting the setting based on comfort.

Humidity Control Knob Description: A circular knob with settings labeled 1 (Less Dry) through 7 (More Dry), and an OFF position.

SETTING THE DESIRED HUMIDITY LEVEL (CONTINUED)

  • To achieve drier air, increase the setting; this will increase dehumidifier run time.
  • To achieve less dry air, decrease the setting; this will reduce dehumidifier run time.

The dial settings can approximate relative humidity (RH) levels, as shown in the table below. Personal comfort is the best guide for adjustment. Initially, the dehumidifier will work to remove excess moisture from home materials, which may result in extended operation.

ENERGY SAVINGS TIP

Adjust the setting to the lowest comfortable level to minimize run time. If the air feels clammy or smells damp, increase the setting. For energy savings, turn the dehumidifier OFF when opening windows, similar to air conditioning use.

WHEN DOES THE DEHUMIDIFIER TURN ON?

The dehumidifier activates when the home's heating and cooling system blower turns on (e.g., air conditioning or continuous fan mode) within a set "Cycle Period." The installing contractor sets this period (e.g., every 30 minutes, hour, two hours, or three hours). If the blower doesn't activate within the Cycle Period, the dehumidifier will turn on itself at the period's end. The Cycle Period determines how often humidity is measured; once per hour is typically sufficient. For adjustments, contact your installing contractor. An optional thermostat (S1-TTSCC01) can provide easier access to settings and continuous humidity monitoring for on-demand operation.

OPTIONAL – CONVERTIBLE MODE: WHOLE HOME AND SPOT DEHUMIDIFICATION

The dehumidifier can be configured for whole-home dehumidification or for separate dehumidification of a specific area, like a basement or crawl space. This setup uses ductwork connecting the dehumidifier to the HVAC system and the designated spot location. Dampers within the ductwork control airflow direction. In Convertible configuration, the dehumidifier activates with the HVAC blower to dehumidify the whole home. If whole-home dehumidification is not active within three minutes before the Cycle Period ends, it will activate spot dehumidification. If whole-home dehumidification is active at the Cycle Period's end, spot dehumidification is deferred to the next cycle.

Diagram Description: An illustration shows ductwork connecting the dehumidifier to the main HVAC system and a separate "spot location" (e.g., basement). Dampers are depicted to control airflow between these zones.

HOW DOES THE DEHUMIDIFIER WORK?

Upon activation, the dehumidifier's blower circulates air for three minutes before measuring the humidity level. A green status light flashes during air circulation. If the humidity exceeds the set level, the compressor engages, and the status light remains solid green. The unit turns off once the humidity drops below the set point.

OPTIONAL - HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEM BLOWER OPERATION

Your installing contractor may have configured the dehumidifier to activate the home's heating and cooling system blower for improved dry air circulation.

HOW DOES THE OPTIONAL VENTILATION WORK?

With the ventilation option installed, the dehumidifier can introduce outside air for a duration set by the Cycle Time adjustment during the Cycle Period. It works with the HVAC blower to meet ventilation requirements. For example, a 20-minute ventilation setting within a 1-hour cycle provides 20 minutes of fresh air per hour. The dehumidifier blower turns on, and a damper opens for outdoor air intake. If the HVAC blower operates for less than the required time, the dehumidifier will activate the system blower to ensure adequate fresh air. The incoming outdoor air mixes with circulating air, and the dehumidifier monitors this mixed air for humidity, engaging the compressor if needed. An outdoor sensor prevents ventilation if temperatures are below 0°F (-18°C) or above 100°F (38°C). Ventilation may occur only during heating system operation if outdoor temperatures are between 0°F (-18°C) and 20°F (-7°C).

Status LED Indicators:

  • Solid Green: Normal Operation
  • Flashing Green: Air Sampling
  • Flashing Red: Service Required

MAINTENANCE

CLEAN OR REPLACE THE AIR FILTER

Check the air filter after 6 months. If heavily soiled, clean monthly. If lightly soiled, clean every 12 months. Replacement filters (S1-4510) are available from your installing contractor.

Filter Cleaning Procedure:

  1. Turn the [On/Off Switch] OFF.
  2. Remove the filter access door from either side.
  3. Slide the filter out.
  4. Flush the filter with warm water and a mild detergent solution.
  5. Shake off excess water.
  6. Replace the filter, ensuring it seats correctly in the top and bottom rails.
  7. Replace the filter access door.
  8. Turn the [On/Off Switch] ON.

CHECK THE DRAIN

Inspect the drain annually for blockages or air locks. If the unit is not draining properly, consult a qualified service professional.

Procedure to Check Drain System:

  1. Turn the [On/Off Switch] OFF.
  2. Remove the filter access door from either side.
  3. Slide the filter out to expose the evaporator coil.
  4. Slowly pour a pint of water into the dehumidifier drip pan near the bottom of the evaporator coil, allowing it to flow into the drain.
  5. Check the drain piping where it enters the floor drain. If water does not flow out, the unit is not draining properly.
  6. Turn the [On/Off Switch] ON.

⚠️ Caution: Do not use spray solvents or cleaners on or near the inlet side of the dehumidifier. If desired, apply cleaner to a cloth and use it to clean the cabinet.
