How to use the Embroidery Hoop . . Threading your needle . . 1. Pass the needle threader through the punch needle end and down into the handle. 2. Place the wool in the threader. 3. Pull the threader back through the punch needle and remove the wool from the threader. 4. Place the threader through the hole in the needle from the back and thread the wool. 5. Withdraw the threader and pull the wool through the hole. 6. Adjust the thread to no more than 2 inches in length enough to be able to thread and tie off later. * Please Note: If needle in your kit is an adjustable Punch Needle. When starting use the "D" setting. Starting to Needle Punch 7. With the oblique side of the needle facing forwards press the needle hard until it pierces the cloth surface and push down until the whole of the needle is inserted. 8. Lift the needle out again carefully, making sure not to pull it too high. When lifting the needle out of the fabric move it against the cloth to the next punch point. Punch one colour block at a time. 9. Needle punch according to the pre-printed pattern. Take care to punch in accordance with the area being punched; circle = circular punch pattern. Punch the small colour areas first and then the larger colour areas. 10.Take care to punch neatly. Punching stitch size: if the pattern area is small, say less that 5cm in length, punch across two rows of the cloth, on larger areas punch across 3-4 rows and for the background area punch across 4-5 rows. 11.Don't punch too densely on the larger areas as this could mean there is insufficient yarn. If the yarn becomes loose, simply tighten the yarn from the back of the punch needle and redo it. 12.When ready to finish a block as you pull the punch needle out of the fabric carefully raise it until the thread is about 2-3 inches in length. Cut the thread Thread the left over thread into your plastic sewing needle and carefully push the needle through the fabric into the looped side.
