iSmartEV EC100 Current Clamp Quick Reference Guide

The iSmartEV EC100 is a current clamp developed by SMARTSAFE for the detection of new energy vehicles. It is designed to be used with detection equipment, such as the iSmartEV P01. The iSmartEV EC100 features a small volume, high accuracy, and stable performance, supporting both AC/DC current tests and DC voltage tests.

Product Overview

The iSmartEV EC100 current clamp has the following components:

  • 1. Jaw: Measures φ16mm×18mm.
  • 2. Direct Current Positive Input Indication.
  • 3. Clamp Mouth.
  • 4. Trigger: Controls the opening and closing of the clamp head.
  • 5. Indicator:
    • Power: Power Indicator. Illuminates after power-on.
    • BT: Bluetooth Indicator. Flashes when communicating with diagnostic equipment.
    • LO BAT: Battery Indicator. Illuminates when the battery is low.
  • 6. Power Switch.
  • 7. Rope Chain Hole.
  • 8. Aviation Socket.
  • 9. Illuminating Lamp.
  • 10. Illuminating Lamp Switch.
  • 11. ZERO Button: Used for zero adjustment to eliminate interference from geomagnetic fields and external electric fields. Zero adjustment should be conducted before measuring DC current.
  • 12. Battery Cover Fixing Screw.
  • 13. Battery Cover.

Packing List: The package includes the Main Unit, Test Clip, and a 9V Square Battery.

Battery Replacement

When the battery is low, the LO BAT indicator on the current clamp will illuminate. Please shut down the device and replace the battery promptly. To replace the battery, use a cross screwdriver to open the battery cover. Ensure correct battery polarity to avoid damaging the clamp. Use a 9V dry battery for replacement. If the current clamp is not used for an extended period, remove the battery.

Operation

  1. Start the Current Clamp app on the detection equipment.
  2. Turn on the power switch of the current clamp; the power indicator lamp will illuminate.
  3. On the app screen, click the "not connected" button to search for the current clamp. Click the Bluetooth name of the current clamp (which is its serial number) to connect. The screen will display "connected" upon successful connection.
  4. Ensure the current clamp is not in use. Press the ZERO button on the current clamp until the reading on the screen displays 0.

Notes on Zeroing: To ensure accuracy, eliminate the effects of external electric and geomagnetic fields by using the zeroing function. Zeroing Steps: First, bring the clamp head close to the measured wire; the current clamp will output a voltage indicating the interference amount from external electric fields. Adjust the ZERO button to nullify this interference. Then, clamp the measured wire for more reliable test data. After measuring a large current, residual magnetism may occur. If immediately used for small current tests, perform zeroing again.

  5. Press the trigger to open the clamp head, clamp the wire to be measured, and tap the "Start Measurement" button on the screen to begin measurement.
  6. When measuring voltage, insert one end of the current clamp test clip into the aviation socket of the current clamp. Clamp the positive [+] and negative [-] wires of the power supply to be tested at the other end. Select "Direct Current" as the measurement type, and then tap the "Start Measurement" button.

App Controls and Operation Tips:

  • 1. Bluetooth Button: Click to search for and select devices to connect. "connected" will be displayed after a successful connection.
  • 2. Measurement type: Click the drop-down list to select the measurement type: Direct Current or Alternating Current.
  • 3. Current measurement value display bar: Displays the measured current.
  • 4. Range selector: Click the drop-down list to display available ranges, including 0 ~ 20A and 0 ~ 200A.
  • 5. Voltage measurement value display bar: Displays the measured voltage.
  • 6. Zero: Click to zero the current clamp. This function is equivalent to the ZERO button on the clamp itself.
  • 7. Open waveform: Playback of previously saved waveforms.
  • 8. Start/Stop: Click to start or stop measurement.
  • 9. Save waveform: Click to save the current waveform.

Application Examples

When measuring DC current:

  • Measure DC leakage: Clamp the positive and negative wires of the DC line simultaneously.
  • Measure the current of the main line: Clamp only the main wire of the DC line.
  • Measure the leakage current of the ground wire: Clamp only the ground wire.

When measuring AC leakage:

  • Clamp the live wire (L) and neutral wire (N) of the AC line simultaneously.

When measuring DC voltage:

  • Connect one end of the current clamp test clip to the aviation socket of the current clamp. Clamp the positive [+] and negative [-] wires of the power supply to be tested at the other end.
