Boly MG982K-10M Infrared Mobile Digital Scouting Camera

User's Manual

1 Instruction

1.1 General Description

This camera is a digital scouting camera with MMS function, an infrared surveillance camera, triggered by the movement of human or animal monitored by a high-sensitivity Passive Infrared (PIR) motion sensor. It automatically captures high-quality pictures (up to 10M pixels) or records video clips (720P HD). It sends pictures instantly to your mobile device or e-mail via GSM/GPRS/MMS network. You will be alerted when the camera is triggered or per custom settings.

It captures color pictures or videos in sufficient daylight. At night, the built-in infrared LEDs help to take clear pictures or videos (monochrome).

The camera features a 3" color LCD display screen and an embedded sound recorder. A laser pointer is used to help target the photo area.

It is resistant against water and snow and can also be used as a portable digital camera.

1.2 Application

This camera serves as an automatic surveillance device for guarding and recording unexpected intrusions in homes, shops, schools, depots, offices, taxis, and work sites. It can also function as a trail camera for hunting or monitoring animals by recording their traces. It can operate unattended for weeks and months, saving event records automatically in digital format.

5 Trouble Shooting

1. Is the camera broken?

Question: There is something in front of the camera lens. Is the camera broken?

Figure 5 IR-cut filter

A close-up view of the camera lens assembly, showing the IR-cut filter mechanism.

Answer: The camera is not broken; it is the IR-cut filter. When powered on, the IR-cut filter resets and covers the lens. It moves to a random position only when the camera is powered off.

2. The camera controller is not working anymore.

Answer: This is most likely due to no SD card being inserted when the camera was turned on. Ensure a working SD card is inserted before powering on the camera.

3. The display screen is suddenly black.

Answer: To reduce power consumption, the camera automatically shuts down after 3 minutes of inactivity. Turn the power on again to continue operation.

4. Why my phone can't receive MMS?

Answer: For MMS/GPRS functionality, ensure both your camera's and phone's SIM cards have sufficient balance and have data services enabled.

Appendix I: PIR Detection Zone

Figure 6 illustrates Bolymedia's four detection ranges at different angles. This camera offers a super long range with a 60-degree field of view.

Figure 6 PIR Detection Zone

A diagram showing different detection zones based on distance and angle. Ranges include Normal (45ft/35 deg), Long Range (73ft/50 deg), Extra Long Range (85ft/55 deg), Super Long Range (100ft/60 deg), and Ultra Long Range (120ft/60 deg).

The PIR detection angle (α) is slightly smaller than the Field of View (FOV) angle (β). This design helps reduce empty picture rates and ensures most motions are captured.

Figure 7 Detection angle vs. FOV angle

A diagram illustrating the relationship between detection angle (α) and Field of View angle (β).

The camera features a new, patented PIR design with a detection range of up to 100ft in good environments. Figure 8 compares the detection zones of the normal PIR and the new patented PIR.

Figure 8 Comparison of Detection Zones of new and existing PIRs

A graph plotting detection zones. One zone (red) represents the "NEW PATENTED PIR" and shows a wider and longer range compared to the "Normal PIR" (green).
