This section explains the ScanSnap network connection, covering:
Deciding on How the ScanSnap Is to Be Used
The procedure to connect a computer or mobile device to the ScanSnap varies based on its intended use. Choose the appropriate connection method:
- Using It at Home: Connects the ScanSnap via a wireless LAN in a home environment or similar setup. A computer is required for this connection.
- To connect to a computer: Refer to "Connecting a Computer to the ScanSnap via a Wireless Access Point" (page 13).
- To connect to a mobile device: Refer to "Connecting a Mobile Device to the ScanSnap via a Wireless Access Point" (page 19).
- Using a Mobile Router: For using a mobile router as a wireless access point, the privacy separator function must be disabled. Refer to "Using a Mobile Router" (page 26) for details.
- Connecting to a computer via a mobile router: Refer to "Connecting a Computer to the ScanSnap via a Wireless Access Point" (page 13).
- Connecting to a mobile device via a mobile router: Refer to "Connecting a Mobile Device to the ScanSnap via a Wireless Access Point" (page 19).
Connecting a Computer to the ScanSnap via a Wireless Access Point
Preparation
Connect your computer to the wireless access point you intend to use with the ScanSnap. You will need the following information:
- Network name (SSID)
- Security key (password)
You can check or change your computer's network connection in the displayed window.
Connection Method
This method assumes ScanSnap Manager is not installed. Install it from the Setup DVD-ROM and follow the Wireless Network Setup Wizard.
HINT: Be careful not to close the ADF paper chute (cover) of the ScanSnap.
- Click the [Setup Now] button.
- Review the information in the displayed window and click [Next].
- Click the [Yes] button.
- If the "When a Computer Is Not Connected to a Wireless LAN" window appears, refer to page 38.
- Click the [OK] button.
- Click the [Yes] button.
- When the firewall alert window appears, click [Allow access].
- If connection fails, check if the ScanSnap and computer are on the same wireless access point. Note that connection is not possible if the privacy separator function is enabled on the access point.
- If connection fails even when on the same access point, refer to "When Connection to the ScanSnap Fails Even If the ScanSnap Is Connected to the Same Wireless Access Point" (page 40).
- If connection cannot be set up manually, restart the wireless access point.
- If connection still fails, refer to the ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool Help.
- Click the [OK] button.
- Click the [No] button.
- Click the [Finish] button.
The ScanSnap Manager icon will change. Check the scanning operation.
Connecting a Mobile Device to the ScanSnap via a Wireless Access Point
ATTENTION
To connect a mobile device via wireless LAN, you must also configure the computer's settings. Set up the wireless network following the connection method.
Preparation
Connect your mobile device to the wireless access point. You will need:
- Network name (SSID)
- Security key (password)
The default password is the last four digits of the ScanSnap serial number.
You need to install the ScanSnap Connect Application on your mobile device. Download it from:
- For iOS: iTunes, App Store
- For Android: Google Play
Connection Method
This method assumes ScanSnap Manager is not installed. Install it from the Setup DVD-ROM and follow the Wireless Network Setup Wizard.
HINT: Be careful not to close the ADF paper chute (cover) of the ScanSnap.
- Click the [Setup Now] button.
- Review the information in the displayed window and click [Next].
- Click the [Yes] button.
- If the "When a Computer Is Not Connected to a Wireless LAN" window appears, refer to page 38.
- Click the [OK] button.
- Click the [No] button.
- Click the [Yes] button.
- Check the contents on the displayed window and click the [Next] button.
- Click the [Finish] button.
- From this step onward, use your mobile device. Tap [ScanSnap] on the Home screen.
- Tap [Other].
HINT: If the Setup Wizard does not appear, you can open it via [File List] → [Settings] → [Setup Wizard] (iOS) or [File List] → Settings icon → [Setup Wizard] (Android).
A connection completion message will appear. Check the scanning operation.
HINT: If a connection completion message does not appear, computer settings may be incomplete. Use the ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool to set up the wireless network.
HINT: Using ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool allows you to set up a wireless network at any time. It is installed with ScanSnap Manager.
Start ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool:
- Connect the ScanSnap and computer with a USB cable.
- Open the ADF paper chute (cover) to power on the ScanSnap and turn on the Wi-Fi switch.
- Select [Start] menu → [All Programs] → [ScanSnap Manager] → [ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool] (or [ScanSnap Manager] → [ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool] on the All apps screen for Windows 8.1/8).
- Click the [Wireless Network Setup Wizard] button.
HINT: It may take time for the Wireless Setup Tool to start. If it doesn't start, restart the computer.
ScanSnap Connect Application and ScanSnap Manager are used in this priority:
- ScanSnap Connect Application
- ScanSnap Manager (USB connection)
- ScanSnap Manager (wireless LAN connection)
To use ScanSnap Manager (wireless LAN), exit ScanSnap Connect Application.
Even with a USB connection, ScanSnap Connect Application can be used. Exiting it switches to USB connection.
Connection is automatically set up when ScanSnap Connect Application starts.
To reconnect, manually select the ScanSnap from the connection list or restart ScanSnap Connect Application.
Using a Mobile Router
Using a mobile router may cause wireless connection failures if the privacy separator function is enabled. The ScanSnap cannot be used in this case.
HINT: The privacy separator function disables communication between wireless devices via a mobile router for enhanced security.

If connection fails with a mobile router, check if the privacy separator function is enabled and disable it. Refer to your mobile router's manual for details.
On some mobile routers, this function cannot be disabled. In such cases, use a USB connection.
Switching the Computer that Is to Be Connected to the ScanSnap
ATTENTION
- ScanSnap Manager can be installed on multiple computers.
- If you switch the computer connected via wireless LAN, you cannot connect to previously used computers.
Preparation
Connect the computer to the wireless access point. You will need:
- Network name (SSID)
- Security key (password)
You can check or change your computer's network connection in the displayed window.
Connection Method
This method assumes ScanSnap Manager is not installed. Install it from the Setup DVD-ROM and follow the Wireless Network Setup Wizard.
- Click the [Setup Now] button.
- Review the information in the displayed window and click [Next].
- Click the [Yes] button.
- Click the [Yes] button.
- Click the [OK] button.
- Click the [Yes] button.
- Check the contents on the displayed window and click the [OK] button.
- Click the [No] button.
- Click the [Finish] button.
- Switch the computer connecting via wireless LAN using the ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool. Start it via [Start] menu → [All Programs] → [ScanSnap Manager] → [ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool] (or [ScanSnap Manager] → [ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool] on the All apps screen for Windows 8.1/8).
- Click the [Maintenance] tab.
- Click the icon representing a computer connected to a network.
- Click the [Yes] button.
- Click the [OK] button.
This computer has been configured for Wi-Fi connection with ScanSnap. Allow ScanSnap Manager through your firewall if a Security Alert appears.
Disconnect the USB cable. The ScanSnap Manager icon will change.
HINT: Using ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool allows you to set up a wireless network at any time. It is installed with ScanSnap Manager.
Start ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool:
- Connect the ScanSnap and computer with a USB cable.
- Open the ADF paper chute (cover) to power on the ScanSnap and turn on the Wi-Fi switch.
- Select [Start] menu → [All Programs] → [ScanSnap Manager] → [ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool] (or [ScanSnap Manager] → [ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool] on the All apps screen for Windows 8.1/8).
- Click the [Wireless Network Setup Wizard] button.
HINT: It may take time for the Wireless Setup Tool to start. If it doesn't start, restart the computer.
Changing the Wireless Access Point that Is to Be Connected to the ScanSnap
- Click the [Extended] tab.
- Click the icon representing wireless network settings.
Changing the Password for the ScanSnap
- Click the [Extended] tab.
- Click the icon representing password settings.
Troubleshooting (Network Connection)
This section provides solutions for connection issues between the ScanSnap and computers or mobile devices via wireless LAN.

When a Computer Is Not Connected to a Wireless LAN
- In the [Wireless LAN setting] window, select [Select wireless network]. From the [Network Name (SSID)] list, choose the desired wireless access point and click [Next].
- Enter the security key and click [OK].
- Click the [OK] button.
HINT: Enter the security key of the wireless access point noted during preparation.
When Connection to the ScanSnap Fails Even If the ScanSnap Is Connected to the Same Wireless Access Point
If connection fails despite being on the same wireless access point, connect manually:
- Right-click the ScanSnap Manager icon in the notification area and select [Connect by Wi-Fi]. The ScanSnap selection window will appear.
- From the list, select the ScanSnap to connect and click [Connect].
Starting Wireless Setup Tool
Using ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool allows you to set up a wireless network at any time to connect the ScanSnap to a wireless LAN. It is installed with ScanSnap Manager.
Start ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool:
- Connect the ScanSnap and computer with a USB cable.
- Open the ADF paper chute (cover) to power on the ScanSnap and turn on the Wi-Fi switch.
- Select [Start] menu → [All Programs] → [ScanSnap Manager] → [ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool] (or [ScanSnap Manager] → [ScanSnap Wireless Setup Tool] on the All apps screen for Windows 8.1/8).

Icon in the Notification Area
The ScanSnap Manager icon is displayed when you click in the notification area. To keep it always visible, drag and drop it onto the notification area. The notification area is at the far right of the taskbar.

For Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 Users
To start ScanSnap applications or display Control Panel, use the All apps screen. Follow the procedure below:

- Click the icon on the lower left side of the Start screen.
- To display the icon, move the mouse cursor.

- Right-click the Start screen.
- Click [All apps] on the app bar.
