Instructions for Use

Intended Use

The Humidiflo High Flow Nasal Cannula (Non-sterile) is designed to provide high flow oxygen therapy for adult patients experiencing acute respiratory failure. This cannula delivers air, with or without blended oxygen, at a maximum flow of 60 L/min. It is intended for single-patient use within hospital or clinical environments. While the Humidiflo Cannula is noninvasive and PEEP (CPAP) is not directly measured, evidence suggests it is an effective modality for early treatment of patients with respiratory failure due to various underlying diseases.

Contraindications

High flow oxygen therapy may generate positive airway pressure. Contraindications for devices that produce positive airway pressure include: pneumothorax, pathologically low blood pressure, cerebrospinal fluid leak, recent cranial surgery or trauma, severe bullous lung disease, and dehydration.

Fitting

Step 1: Place the cannula over the head, ensuring the nasal prongs are inserted into the nostrils and the tubing is secured behind the ears. (Depiction: A person's head with the cannula positioned, showing the prongs in the nose and tubing looping behind the ears, with a downward arrow indicating placement.)

Step 2: Adjust the head strap for a secure and comfortable fit. (Depiction: A person's head with the cannula, showing dotted lines and upward arrows indicating adjustment of the head strap for tightening. Additional small diagrams show correct (O) and incorrect (X) alignment of nasal prongs and tubing connection points.)

To Change the Tubing Attachment Side

Step 1: Rotate the tubing connector to detach it from the main cannula body. (Depiction: A close-up of the tubing connection point, with a curved arrow indicating rotation for detachment.)

Step 2: Separate the tubing from the cannula body. (Depiction: The cannula body and the detached tubing, showing they are now separate components.)

Step 3: Reattach the tubing to the opposite side of the cannula body. (Depiction: The tubing being reconnected to the other side of the cannula body.)

Step 4: Ensure the tubing is securely connected on the new side. (Depiction: The cannula with the tubing reattached to the opposite side, with arrows indicating a secure connection.)
