Safety Warnings & Important Safety Instructions
WARNING: Always follow basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS.
- When not in use, switch off and unplug or remove the battery cartridge.
- Do not cover the appliance with cloth or carton during operation, as this may cause a flame.
- When using AC power, do not use in damp or wet locations.
- Do not expose to rain or snow. Never wash with water.
- Do not use in explosive atmospheres (e.g., presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust).
- Appliance plugs must match the outlet. Do not modify plugs. Avoid adapter plugs with earthed appliances.
- Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces (pipes, radiators, ovens, refrigerators) to reduce electric shock risk.
- Do not abuse the cord. Keep it away from heat, oil, sharp edges, and moving parts. Damaged cords increase electric shock risk.
- If the external cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or their service agent with a special cord.
- Do not stare directly at the light source.
- Do not handle the plug with wet or greasy hands.
- Always place the appliance on a level and stable surface.
- The light source should only be replaced by the manufacturer, service agent, or qualified person.
- Do not leave the power cord disconnected from the appliance while power is supplied from an outlet.
- Do not cover or clog appliance vents. Keep cooling vents clean.
Battery Appliance Use and Care
- Prevent unintentional starting: Ensure the switch is OFF before connecting the battery, picking up, or carrying the appliance.
- Disconnect the battery pack before making adjustments, changing accessories, or storing.
- Recharge only with the specified charger. Using an incorrect charger may create a fire risk.
- Use appliances only with specifically designated battery packs.
- When not in use, keep battery packs away from metal objects (paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws) that could short the terminals. Shorting may cause burns or fire.
- Avoid contact with battery electrolyte if leakage occurs. Flush with water; seek medical help if it contacts eyes.
- Do not use damaged or modified battery packs or appliances. They may exhibit unpredictable behavior leading to fire, explosion, or injury.
Important Safety Instructions for Battery Cartridge
- Read all instructions and markings on the charger, battery, and product before use.
- Do not disassemble the battery cartridge.
- Stop operation immediately if operating time becomes excessively short, as this may indicate overheating, burns, or explosion risk.
- If electrolyte gets into eyes, rinse with clear water and seek immediate medical attention.
- Do not short-circuit the battery cartridge: Avoid touching terminals with conductive material, storing with metal objects, or exposing to water/rain. Short-circuiting can cause high current, overheating, burns, or breakdown.
- Do not store the appliance or battery cartridge in locations where temperatures may reach or exceed 50°C (122°F).
- Do not incinerate the battery cartridge, even if severely damaged. It may explode in fire.
- Be careful not to drop or strike the battery.
- Do not use a damaged battery.
- Lithium-ion batteries are subject to Dangerous Goods Legislation. Follow special packaging and labeling requirements for commercial transport. Consult a hazardous materials expert if needed. Tape off open contacts and pack securely to prevent movement.
- When disposing of the battery cartridge, remove it from the tool and dispose of it safely according to local regulations.
- Use batteries only with specified Makita products. Using batteries in non-compliant products may cause fire, excessive heat, explosion, or electrolyte leakage.
- If the tool is not used for a long period, remove the battery.
Tips for Maintaining Maximum Battery Life
- Charge the battery before it is completely discharged. Stop operation and charge when power noticeably decreases.
- Never recharge a fully charged battery cartridge; overcharging shortens service life.
- Charge the battery cartridge at room temperature (10°C - 40°C / 50°F - 104°F). Let hot batteries cool before charging.
- Charge the battery cartridge if it will not be used for more than six months.

Functional Description
CAUTION: Always ensure the appliance is switched OFF and the battery cartridge is removed before making adjustments or checks.
Use with Battery:
Installing or Removing Battery Cartridge
CAUTION: Always unplug before installing or removing the battery cartridge. Use only genuine Makita lithium-ion batteries. Altered or non-genuine batteries may explode, causing fire, injury, or damage, and will void the Makita warranty. Hold the appliance and battery cartridge firmly during installation/removal to prevent slippage and injury. Be careful not to trap fingers between the appliance and battery cartridge or battery cover.
To install: Release cover lock, open battery cover (Fig. 1). Align battery cartridge tongue with housing groove and slide in until it clicks. If the red indicator is visible, it's not fully locked. Close battery cover.
To remove: Slide the battery cartridge out while sliding the button on the front.
CAUTION: Ensure the battery cartridge is fully installed to prevent accidental falls. Do not force installation; if it doesn't slide easily, it's not inserted correctly.
Indicating Remaining Battery Capacity (Fig. 3)
Press the check button on the battery cartridge. Indicator lamps show remaining capacity:
- Illuminated: 75% to 100%
- Illuminated, Illuminated: 50% to 75%
- Illuminated, Illuminated, Illuminated: 25% to 50%
- Illuminated, Illuminated, Illuminated, Illuminated: 0% to 25%. Charge the battery.
- Blinking: Possible battery malfunction.
Note: Indication may vary slightly from actual capacity based on usage and ambient temperature. Using non-genuine or altered batteries voids the warranty.
Use with AC Power:
Use the supplied power cord. Insert the female plug into the appliance, then connect the male plug to an outlet (Fig. 4).
CAUTION: Insert the female plug fully before connecting the male plug. Always close the socket cover when the power cord is not plugged in. AC power does not charge the inserted battery. The appliance automatically switches to AC power when the cord is plugged in, even when operating on DC power.
Organizing the power cord: Coil the cord tightly and secure with the attached fastener (Fig. 5).
Operation
Turning on the Light and Brightness Mode Selection (Fig. 6)
- Switch: Press once to turn on (retains last brightness setting). Press again to turn off.
- Brightness Mode Selection: Sequence is High / Mid / Low / High for each press when the light is on.
Battery Protection System (Fig. 7)
The appliance has a battery protection system to extend battery life. When the battery is low, all LEDs except one turn off. After approximately five to ten minutes, the system automatically cuts off power.
Adjusting the Angle of the Light (Fig. 8)
Loosen the knobs on both sides. Adjust the light angle (240° range). Tighten the knobs again.
CAUTION: Be careful not to trap fingers when adjusting the angle.
Using with Tripod (Optional Accessories)
CAUTION: Read accessory manuals before use. The light can be mounted on a tripod for easier operation (Fig. 9).
