Goldring 1000 Series Moving Magnet Cartridge
Instructions for Use
Mounting Instructions
(1) Mounting: To protect the stylus from damage during mounting, remove the stylus assembly from the cartridge body (see Fig. 3). Mounting is simpler if connecting leads are attached before screwing the cartridge into the headshell.
This cartridge has standard 12.7mm fixing centres. Screws are provided and should be used to fasten the cartridge rigidly to the headshell. Do not overtighten these screws.
Mount the cartridge so that when viewed from the front and side, its top surface is parallel to the record (see Fig. 1). The use of a small mirror can help align the cartridge correctly. Place the mirror on the turntable and rest the stylus on it. Adjust the arm or headshell to ensure the cartridge is parallel with the record surface and not tilted.
(2) Connections: The contact pins are colour-coded according to the International Standard Colour Code. Connect the four pickup leads to the corresponding pins on the cartridge (see Fig. 2).
Warning: Under no circumstances should the headshell leads be soldered directly to the contact pins on the cartridge. Heat applied to the contact pins can cause damage to the internal connections.
(3) Playing Weight: The correct playing weight is 1.75 g. Remember to remove the stylus guard before setting the playing weight.
(4) Matching: The cartridge load should be 47k ohms, and the total capacitance in parallel with this, including arm lead and amplifier capacitance, should not exceed 200pF. If other values of load resistance and capacitance are used, the response may differ from published information but may not affect listening pleasure.
Stylus Replacement
The stylus is easily removed. Grasp the stylus housing and withdraw gently (see Fig. 3). To replace the stylus, grasp the stylus housing very carefully and insert the square boss into the aperture in the cartridge body, gently pushing home until the stylus housing is flush with the body. Never use force when replacing the stylus assembly. All Goldring styli are manufactured to specific performance parameters. For replacement, use only a genuine Goldring replacement stylus.
The Goldring replacement stylus for the 1000 Series is available for:
- 1006 - 900
- 1012 GX - D12 GX
- 1022 GX - D22 GX
- 1042 - D42
The cartridge is guaranteed against electrical and mechanical faults for one year from the date of purchase. This guarantee does not include worn styli and is invalidated if instructions are not followed or if any unauthorized modification, repair, or alteration has been attempted.
