Settings and Programming

1 Clock

1.1 Time: Navigate to the desired location using →/← keys and set the current time using ↑/↓ keys. Confirm with ☑.

1.2 Date: Navigate to the desired location using →/← keys and set the current date using ↑/↓ keys. Confirm with ☑.

1.3 Adjustment MEZ-MESZ (Central European Time - Central European Summer Time):

  • Summer time/winter time must be set manually.
  • An adjustment period of 1-14 days can be set.
  • Set the number of days with ↑/↓ keys and confirm with ☑.
  • When prompted "Save now?", confirm with Yes to update time and date.
  • When prompted "Set internal time?", confirm with Yes to update the internal clock immediately. If this is the first time setting the clock, confirm with Yes. If you confirm with No, the internal clock will be adjusted within the set number of days as described in the MEZ-MESZ adjustment.

Example: Setting 10 days results in 60:10 = 6 minutes per day.

Note: The LED Control has two clocks: one for the actual time displayed, and an internal clock for automatic processes like dimming. The internal clock adjusts to the actual time within the set period if "Set internal time?" is answered with No.

2 Illumination

The LED Control can manage up to two Trocal LED lights, each with two separate channels (total of 4 illumination channels) independently.

Note: The progression of each channel can be set individually. Freshwater LED models have Channel 1 for warmer light and Channel 2 for cooler light. Marinus LED models have Channel 1 for white LEDs and Channel 2 for blue LEDs, allowing for effects like moonlight or adjusting the blue-to-white ratio.

2.1 Illumination Run:

  • Query "Channel to edit?": Select the desired channel using ↑/↓ keys. Confirm with ☑.
  • Query "Channel active?": Choose "No" (deactivated) or "Yes".
  • If "Yes", query "Number of dimm-points" (4-8): Set the desired number of dimming points using ↑/↓ keys. Confirm with ☑.
  • Programming dimming points: Set the Time (when the light should reach the specified brightness) and Light intensity (0%-100%). Continue with ☑.
  • Select simulation "Select simul.": Switch moon phase simulation on/off for the channel using ←/→ keys. Confirm with ☑.

Note: The brightness progression between individual time points is calculated automatically.

2.2 Shift Curves: This function allows you to conveniently shift entire illumination curves in time.

  • Select or deselect curves to be shifted: Navigate to the desired channel with ↑/↓ keys and select the curve with ←/→ keys. Confirm with ☑.
  • Query "Shift by": Set the time in minutes by which the selected curves should be shifted. Confirm with ☑.

Note: LED Control recalculates all times in the selected dim curves and saves them under 2.1. This process can be repeated or cancelled.

2.3 Manual Illumination: Primarily for testing and diagnosis.

  • Select the channel to modify using ←/→ keys.
  • Make the selected channel brighter (↑) or darker (↓).
  • End manual illumination with ☑.
  • Settings are not retained after ending.

2.4 Moon: Set the period for moon phase simulation. This function modifies the programmed moonlight curve, it does not "create" moonlight.

  • Simulation Start: Enter the start time for the moon phase simulation.
  • Simulation End: Enter the end time for the moon phase simulation.

The start and end times must encompass the nightly moonlight period for the channel. Moon phases are calculated based on the date, aligning with actual moon phases with a maximum one-day discrepancy. Ensure the moon phase simulation is active in the desired channels (see 2.1).

During the set time, the channel's programmed brightness is multiplied by the current moon phase brightness, reducing the actual brightness accordingly. Example: 50% natural moon brightness × 20% programmed moonlight = 10% actual channel brightness.

Note: If moon phase simulation is OFF, moonlight under 2.1 means full moon every night.

Recommendation: For Trocal LED Freshwater, use only channel 2 (cooler light) for moonlight with natural, low intensity.

2.5 Time Lapse: For testing and presentation. View set illumination in high speed.

  • Manual Time Lapse (indicated by "M") and Automatic Time Lapse (indicated by "A"). Switch modes by pressing ☑.
  • Manual: Set a specific time to view programmed illumination using cursor keys.
  • Automatic: Simulates time continuously. Adjust speed by setting duration in seconds for a 24h simulation using cursor keys.

☑ stops the time lapse.

2.6 Acclimatisation: Offers a simple way to automatically change illumination brightness over several days. Useful for acclimatizing plants to new lighting or for new fish/corals.

  • Start Date: Acclimatization begins immediately and runs until the start date.
  • Start Brightness: All channels are multiplied by this value at the start.
  • End Date: Acclimatization ends on this day.
  • End Brightness: All channels are multiplied by this value at the end.

A dim factor is calculated daily, converting illumination curves. Example: Start 01/01/2016 at 50%, End 03/01/2016 at 100% results in 50% brightness until 01/01, 75% on day 2, and 100% on day 3.

Tips: Ideal for converting fluorescent aquariums to LED. Recommended "graduated adjustment" over 4-6 weeks. Can also be used to reduce all 4 channels simultaneously for algae control.

3 Extras

  • Display night end: Set time for display brightness to increase.

3.3 Language: Set the display language for LED Control texts.

Attention: Factory setting is English. Navigate to Extras → Language → Select your language → Confirm with "Save now?" by pressing Yes.

4 System

Summarizes all system functions and settings, including hardware configuration.

4.1 Factory settings: Reverts all settings to factory defaults upon confirmation.

4.2 PIN: Personal Identification Number to protect settings from unauthorized access. Default is 0000. If PIN is changed from 0000, it must be entered before any setting change. To reset a forgotten PIN: Switch off/on the device, then simultaneously press ☑ and . Confirm "Delete PIN?" with Yes.

Troubleshooting

Error Possible Cause / Remedy
Lights always have 100% brightness and won't dim. Inputs and outputs switched. Check and correct assignment of power supplies and lights.
LED Control working, but second light not lighting up. Only one power supply connected. Connect the second light's power supply.
Lights or individual channels do not have the programmed brightness. Check if moon phase simulation is active or if start and end times are correctly programmed. See point 2.4.
