Introduction
The YAS-109 is a front surround system with a built-in subwoofer, designed to connect to your TV for an enhanced audio experience.

3D Surround Mode
Experience immersive sound with virtual 3D surround technology (DTS Virtual:X) that reproduces sound from the front, sides, and even above you, enhancing the sense of realism.
4K/HDR (High Dynamic Range) Video Support

HDMI Control Function

Front/Top Panel
- Speakers

Indicator Lamps
Indicator lamps show the operational status and settings:
- STATUS Lamp: Indicates power status (On/Off).
- HDMI, TV, BLUETOOTH, NET, SURROUND, CLR VOICE Lamps: Indicate the selected input or sound mode.
- Alexa Lamp: Indicates Alexa status.
Buttons
- Alexa Button (⑥): Activates Alexa.
- Microphone Mute Button (⑦): Disables the microphone for privacy. Press again to re-enable.
- Input Select Button (⑧): Selects the input source.
- Volume Buttons (+/-) (⑨): Adjusts the volume.
- Power Button (⑩): Turns the unit on/off.

Remote Control
Preparing the Remote Control
Remove the battery insulation sheet before use.
Operating Range
Operate the remote control within a 6-meter (approx. 20 feet) range and a 30-degree angle from the front of the unit, pointing towards the remote control receiver.
Preparation
1. Setup
Place the unit on a stable surface, such as a TV stand, as shown in the diagram.
2. Connections
Connection Diagram:
Connect the unit to your TV and other AV devices as follows:
- To TV: Use an HDMI cable. If your TV supports ARC, connect to the HDMI OUT (ARC) port on the unit and the HDMI IN (ARC) port on the TV. If your TV does not support ARC, use the Optical Digital Cable to connect to the TV's optical audio output.
- To AV Devices (Set-top box, media streamer, etc.): Connect using an HDMI cable to the HDMI IN port on the unit.
- To Power Outlet: Connect the included power cord to the AC power input and plug it into a wall outlet.
3. Powering On
Press the Power button (①) on the remote control or touch the power button on the unit to turn it on. The STATUS indicator will light up.
4. Network Connection
Connect the unit to your network using the Sound Bar Controller app. Follow the on-screen instructions in the app to complete the setup. The NET indicator will light up when connected wirelessly.
Notice:
- When using Alexa, you may need to log in with your Amazon account via the app.
- The unit may update its firmware automatically upon the first network connection.
Playback
Basic Playback Steps
- Turn on your connected AV devices (TV, media streamer, etc.).
- Press the Input button (②) on the remote control to select the desired input source (HDMI, TV, Bluetooth, NET).
- Start playback on the selected device.
- Adjust the volume using the Volume (+/-) buttons (④).
Notice: If you connected the unit to your TV using HDMI with ARC support, you can control the unit's power, input switching, and volume using your TV's remote control.
Selecting Your Preferred Sound
Clear Voice Button (①)
Toggle Clear Voice mode on/off to enhance dialogue clarity.
BASS EXT Button (②)
Toggle Bass Extension mode on/off to boost low-frequency sounds.
3D Surround Button / Surround Mode Button (③)
Press the 3D Surround button to switch between surround and 3D surround modes. DTS Virtual:X provides a more immersive sound experience with height effects.
Use the Surround Mode button to select sound modes like Movie, TV, Music, Sports, or Game.
Stereo Button (④)
Switch to standard stereo playback.
Convenient Features
- Alexa Button (①): Activate Alexa for voice commands.
- Subwoofer (+/-) Buttons: Adjust the subwoofer volume.
- INFO Button (③): Displays audio signal information. Press and hold for 5 seconds to switch between main and secondary audio for digital broadcasts.
- Mute Button (④): Mutes/unmutes the audio.
Playing Content from Bluetooth Devices
Connect your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or digital music player wirelessly to play audio through the unit.
- Press the BLUETOOTH button to select Bluetooth input.
- Enable Bluetooth on your device.
- Select "YAS-109 Yamaha" from the list of available Bluetooth devices on your device.
- Start playback on your device.
Playing Streaming Service Content
Access various internet streaming services through the unit. Use the Sound Bar Controller app to select services and content. Refer to the app for details.
Check the Yamaha website for a list of supported streaming services.

- Some streaming services may require a paid subscription.
- Service availability and features are subject to change without notice.
Voice Control (Amazon Alexa)
Use Amazon Alexa to control the YAS-109 and play music. You can also control other Alexa-compatible smart home devices.
An Amazon account and network connection are required. Log in using the Sound Bar Controller app.
Voice Commands Examples:
- Volume Control: "Alexa, turn up the volume." / "Alexa, turn down the volume."
- Music Playback: "Alexa, play 90s J-POP."
- Playback Control: "Alexa, next track." / "Alexa, stop." / "Alexa, what song is this?"
- Weather: "Alexa, what's the weather tomorrow?"
- Timers: "Alexa, set a 10-minute timer."
