Installation guide CU4000 Door Controller
Introduction
The CU4000 Door Controller reads the encrypted data contained on the carrier and allows for updating of the carrier via SALTO Virtual Network technology, making it possible to cancel lost or stolen cards remotely. It is equipped with input connections that permit third-party readers integration.
Available models include:
- CU42E0 (226g)
- CU42E0T00 (600g)
- CU42E0G00 (190g)
- CU4200 (570g)
- CU4200T00
- CU4200G00
Mechanical Installation
The CU4000 Door Controller has specific dimensions and connection points for installation. It requires a 12V DC power input (2A MAX).
Key Connection Points:
- 12VDC Input
- GND
- 12VDC Output (1A)
- BUS485 (A, B)
- TAMPER
- READER 1 (A, B)
- READER 2 (A, B)
- IN1 to IN6 inputs
- RL1 to RL4 relay outputs
- Ethernet (10Base-T, 100Base-TX)
Installation Steps:
- Connect the tamper input. Ensure that if a third-party electric box with tamper detection is used, the CU tamper input is followed.
- To override the wall tamper, place the jumper in the OFF position.
Diagrams illustrate the physical layout and connection points.
Connection Details
Detailed descriptions for each connection point (1-13) are provided, covering tamper switches, clear button functionality, RS485 bus termination, power input/output, BUS485, inputs, PPD connection, address configuration (CU4200 only), reader connections, relay connections, and Ethernet connection.
Example:
- Tamper Switch (1): Parallel connection to the tamper input.
- Clear Button (2): Press for less than 5 seconds if configuration changes (e.g., reader added, Ethernet/BUS485 connection). Tamper alarm must be active by removing the tamper switch connector.
- RS485 Bus Termination (3): Must be ON when the CU is at the end of the BUS.
- Power Input (4): 12V DC.
- Power Output (5): Directly connected to power input, protected by a 1A fuse.
- BUS485 (6): For communication.
- Inputs (7): Installer identifies bridge cable needed based on configuration.
- PPD Connection (8).
- Address Configuration (9): For CU4200, all addresses on the BUS485 must be unique.
- Reader Connections (10): Refer to reader manual for cable, connections, and max distances.
- Relay Connections (11): Max load 2A-30VDC. Use provided varistor for inductive loads.
- Ethernet Connection (12): For CU42E0 models.
- Tamper Input (13): Connects tamper signal from SALTO electric box or compatible devices.
Input Configuration
The CU4000 supports various input configurations, including factory defaults and supervised input connections for CUADAP or third-party readers.
Factory Configuration:
Input | Description (Eng) | Type |
---|---|---|
IN1 | DOOR state for DOOR1 | unsupervised NC |
IN2 | RTE input for DOOR1 | unsupervised NO |
IN3 | DOOR state for DOOR2 | unsupervised NC |
IN4 | RTE input for DOOR2 | unsupervised NO |
IN5 | Office input for DOOR1 | unsupervised NO |
IN6 | Office input for DOOR2 | unsupervised NO |
Relay Outputs:
Output | Description (Eng) |
---|---|
RL1 | Lock Relay for DOOR1 |
RL2 | Tamper Alarm, DLO and intrusion DOOR 1 |
RL3 | Lock Relay for DOOR2 |
RL4 | Tamper Alarm, DLO and intrusion DOOR 2 |
Input Connections (CUADAP or third-party readers):
Connections can be made using Wiegand, Omron, or RS232 protocols. For supervised inputs, specific resistance values (R1, R2) are required, configurable via software (e.g., 1kΩ recommended).
Electrical Characteristics
Operation Conditions:
- Temperature: 0-60°C
- Humidity: 35-85%
Power Specifications:
Parameter | Min | Nom. | Max | Unit | Notes |

Configuration & Cabling:
- Configuration is typically done via software.
- Recommended cabling includes UTP CAT5e for Ethernet, Twisted Pair for BUS485, and AWG24/AWG18 for inputs/readers.
Output Relays:
- Rated load (resistive): 2A-30Vdc.
Notes provide further details on consumption, voltage, resistors, software, and Ethernet availability.
Configuration
The configuration process involves several steps:
- Network Connections: Prepare network connections (Ethernet cable), set CU4200 dip-switches. Generate a tamper alarm (open housing or remove tamper switch cable) and press CLR button to detect connected readers. Verify reader LEDs are ON.
- Software Setup: Perform setup in SALTO ProAccess SPACE software. Configure CU4200 dip-switches and assign IP address to CU42E0.
- Addressing CU42E0:
- Press CLR button briefly to detect readers and CU4200. Verify reader LEDs blink and BUS485 LEDs are ON.
- CU42E0 is DHCP ready. If no DHCP server, a static IP can be set via a web browser.
- To enter addressing mode, press CLR for 5 seconds (ON LED blinks orange).
- Access IP address 192.168.0.234 via web browser to configure network parameters and click "send".
- The CU42E0 exits addressing mode automatically, or can be manually exited by pressing CLR for 5 seconds.
- Device Detection: Use SALTO ProAccess software to detect the device.
Dipswitch Setup
Offline Mode: If the CU4200 is used offline, all 4 dip-switches must be OFF (0000).
Online Mode (BUS485): When connected to an online CU42E0 via BUS485, the CU4200 dip-switch setting assigns a unique address to each device on the BUS485. This address must match the software configuration.
- Both ends of the BUS485 must have the RS485 BUS termination resistor in the ON position.
- Intermediate CU4200s need the resistor in the OFF position.
A table illustrates dipswitch settings for addresses 0 through 15.
Setup Example: The configuration must match the SALTO ProAccess SPACE software.
Maximum Devices on BUS485: 16 units total, with a maximum of 4 CU4200 and 15 CU4EB8 units.
