Technical Specifications & Performance

Sensitometric Curves

The Sensitometric Curves graph illustrates the film's response to light. The x-axis represents 'Log Exposure' in lux-seconds, with '0' indicating normal exposure for an 18% gray card. The y-axis shows 'Density'. The curves, representing red, green, and blue layers, detail the film's latitude. A white card is approximately 2⅓ stops higher than normal exposure, showing significant highlight detail capture. A 3% black card is 2⅔ stops below normal exposure, indicating at least 2½ stops of latitude for shadow detail.

Modulation Transfer Curves

The Modulation Transfer Curves graph measures the film's visual sharpness. The x-axis, 'Spatial Frequency' (cycles/mm), indicates the level of detail. The y-axis, 'Response' (%), shows how well the film reproduces that detail. A longer, flatter curve signifies better sharpness, meaning the film can resolve more sine waves per millimeter with high fidelity.

Diffuse RMS Granularity Curves

The Diffuse RMS Granularity Curves graph helps determine the film's graininess. Users find a specific density on the left vertical scale, follow it horizontally to the sensitometric curve, and then vertically to the granularity curve. From that point, a horizontal line to the rightmost 'Granularity Sigma D' scale provides a value. Multiplying this value by 1000 yields the RMS granularity.

Film Characteristics

Base: Acetate safety base.

Darkroom Recommendations

Do not use a safelight. Handle unprocessed film in total darkness.

Processing

ECN-2

Storage

Store unexposed film at 13°C (55°F) or lower. For storage of unexposed film longer than 6 months, store at -18°C (0°F). Process film promptly.

Exposure Index

Daylight (5500K)—250; Tungsten—64 (with KODAK WRATTEN 2 Gelatin Filter No. 80A)

Laboratory Aim Density

Time negative originals relative to Laboratory Aim Density (LAD) Control Film supplied by Eastman Kodak Company. More information about LAD and Digital LAD is available online at kodak.com/go/LAD.

Color Balance

This film is balanced for exposure with daylight illumination (5500K). For other light sources, use the correction filters in the table below.

Reciprocity

No filter corrections or exposure adjustments for exposure times from 1/1000 of a second to 1 second. If your exposure is in the 10-second range, increase exposure 1 stop and use a KODAK WRATTEN 2 Filter, Color Compensating CC10R.

Identification

After processing, the Kodak internal product code symbol (EN), product code number 5207, emulsion/roll number identification, and KODAK KEYKODE Numbers are visible along the length of the film.

Grain

The perception of graininess of any film depends on scene content, complexity, color, and density. In KODAK VISION3 250D Color Negative Film 5207/7207, the measured granularity is exceptionally low.

Sharpness

The perceived sharpness of any film depends on various components of the motion picture production system. Camera and projector lenses, film printers, and other factors play a role, but the specific sharpness of a film can be measured and charted in the Modulation Transfer Curve.

Spectral Curves

Spectral Sensitivity Curves

The Spectral Sensitivity Curves graph displays the film's sensitivity to different wavelengths of light (nm). It shows the sensitivity of the yellow, magenta, and cyan dye-forming layers. These curves are valuable for color correction, exposure modification, and optimizing results for special effects like blue and green screen work.

Spectral Dye Density Curves

The Spectral Dye Density Curves graph illustrates the spectral absorption of the dyes formed after film processing. It plots diffuse spectral density against wavelength (nm) for midscale neutral, cyan, magenta, and yellow dyes. These curves are useful for adjusting or optimizing devices that scan or print the film. The cyan, magenta, and yellow dye curves are peak-normalized.
