Connections
Connect your ZEN DAC 3 to your audio source and headphones:
Rear Panel Connections
- USB-C Input: Connect to your computer or audio source via the included USB-C cable. This port also provides power.
- RCA Outputs: Connect to powered speakers or an external amplifier.
- 4.4mm BAL Output: For balanced headphones.
Front Panel Connections
- 6.3mm SE Output: For standard single-ended headphones.
- Volume Knob: Controls the output volume for headphones and RCA outputs.
- PowerMatch Button: Adjusts the gain for optimal headphone matching.
- XBass+ Button: Enhances bass frequencies.
Getting Started
- Connect the ZEN DAC 3 to your computer using the USB-C cable.
- Connect your headphones to either the 6.3mm SE output or the 4.4mm BAL output.
- Turn on your computer and ensure the ZEN DAC 3 is recognized as an audio device. (Drivers may be required for some operating systems; check iFi's website for details).
- Adjust the volume using the volume knob.
- Experiment with PowerMatch and XBass+ to tailor the sound to your preference.
Key Features
- PowerMatch: Selectable gain levels (Low/High) to match your headphones' impedance and sensitivity. Press the button to cycle through modes. [i] indicates low gain, [ii] indicates high gain.
- XBass+: Adds a layer of deep, tight bass to your music. Press the button to toggle on/off.
- Variable/Fixed RCA Output: A switch on the rear panel allows you to select between variable output (controlled by the volume knob) for direct connection to powered speakers, or fixed output for connection to a traditional pre-amplifier or integrated amplifier.
Troubleshooting
No Sound: Ensure USB cable is securely connected. Check that the ZEN DAC 3 is selected as the default audio output device in your computer's sound settings. Verify volume is not muted or set too low.
Distorted Sound: Try lowering the volume or switching PowerMatch to a lower gain setting.
