Getting Started
Included in the package:
- TEK-Mate device
- Plastic carrying case
- Two "D" cell alkaline batteries
- TEK-Mate sensor
- Replacement filters
1. Install Batteries
- Depress the release tab using a coin or screwdriver.
- Slide the battery cover away from the probe tip to remove it.
- Insert two "D" cell alkaline batteries as indicated inside the battery compartment.
- Replace the battery cover, ensuring it slides along the side rails until the release tab is securely engaged.
2. Install Sensor
- Gently pry the rubber sensor cap off the TEK-Mate body.
- Remove the TEK-Mate sensor from its foil packaging and take off the protective foam.
- Carefully insert the sensor into the three-pin socket on the circuit board.
- Reinstall the rubber sensor cap.
3. Turning TEK-Mate On and Preparing for Use
- Press and hold the power button to turn the TEK-Mate On or Off. The POWER indicator will illuminate when the device is on.
- Note: If the POWER indicator flashes, or if both the POWER and HIGH indicators flash, the batteries are low and need to be replaced.
- Allow the TEK-Mate to warm up for 30 seconds to two minutes.
- Note: During warm-up, the device will continuously alarm, and all three indicators will illuminate. Once warm-up is complete, the TEK-Mate will beep, and the HIGH indicator will flash approximately once per second.
Detecting Leaks
Note: In extreme conditions, such as exposure to moisture, the warm-up period can extend up to 20 minutes.
- Position the tip of the TEK-Mate as close as possible to the suspected leak point, ensuring airflow is not blocked.
- Slowly move the probe along each potential leak point.
- If a leak is detected, the TEK-Mate will sound an alarm, and either the HIGH or LOW indicator will flash. A faster flashing rate and alarm indicate a higher concentration of refrigerant.
- Once a leak is identified, withdraw the probe from the leak for a few seconds before returning to the suspected site.
- Note: For detecting larger leaks, press the power button to switch to low sensitivity mode. The LOW indicator will flash to confirm that low sensitivity mode is active.
Replacing Filters
- Remove a dirty or clogged filter using a paper clip or a similar thin object.
- Insert the new filter into the probe tip.
