Omegon® 7-in-1 lens cleaning set
English Version 07.2023 Rev A 69986

General remarks:

Optical instruments do not need to be cleaned too often. Some grains of dust do not reduce the performance of a telescope, spotting scope or binoculars.

We only recommend to clean lenses and mirrors in this cases:

· If dust is visible on first sight.

· If grease has got on the surface - that can happen easily when eyelashes touch the outer lens of eyepieces

· If an instrument has not been used for a long time and fungus has spread over the surface.

· Contamination by pollen. Pollen contains sugar and is degraded by bacteria, which settle on the optics. These organisms exude acid containing substances , which could attack the optical system. If a yellowy deposit is detected on the optics after a star gazing session in spring, the optical system should be cleaned.

· Large area contamination. If beverages or other fluids have accidently come into contact with the optical system, the optics must be cleaned. Even if these fluids were clear, components in these fluids or their degradation products may attack the coating of optical components.

Always when using cleaning products, please follow these guidelines:

· First try to clean without contact, e.g. with bellows

· Do never rub! That can cause scratches of microscopic particles over the surface and damage the coatings

· If using liquids, make sure before that they can not enter the lens housing - otherwise this can feed fungus and make everything worse.

· Patience is most important! Firmly clinging dirt can often be loosened by repeatedly soaking it. That might take a

 lot of time.
If unsure whether cleaning is necessary or not, you can send us photos showing your instrument to

Name

Use case

Bellows with silicone spray

Blow away small grains of dust with this bellows. The tip is made from silicone, but nevertheless it is better not to touch the surface when using it.

Extendible cleaning brush (LensPen)

Dust which can not be blown away might get off if you stroke silkily across the surface. Be careful not to apply pressure!

50ml spray cleaning fluid

If using this fluid for wetting firmly clinging dirt or grease, make sure beforehand that your instrument is water proof - no liquid should ever enter lens assemblies! One can let the fluid dry without touching the surface, or one can dry it with a cleaning tissue (see next)

50 sheets of cleaning tissues

These tissues can be used to wipe the cleaning fluid. When using first only touch the surface without rubbing rubbing always bears the danger of scratching invisible small grains over the surface. These scratches may worsen the performance of your instrument more than some small spots of dust.

Damp cleaning wipes

If unsure about the waterproofness, use the wet wipe for soaking dirt - the dry wipe can be used like a cleaning tissue.

Useful for loosening firmly clinged dirt. One can spray

5x fine cleaning swabs, 5x broad fluid on the tips and then try to solve single spots of dirt.

cleaning swabs

The swabs are particularly useful for reaching to the edge

of a lens or mirror.

30x30cm microfibre cloth

This cloth should better only be used for cleaning the housing of your scope or binoculars.
