Important Information Before Installation or Operation
The operation of your UHF radio in Australia and New Zealand is subject to conditions in the following licenses: In Australia, the ACMA Radio communications (Citizen Band Radio Stations) and in New Zealand by MED the General User Radio License for Citizen Band Radio.
Narrowband vs. Wideband Operation: When a new narrowband radio receives a transmission from an older wideband radio, the speech may sound loud and distorted; adjust your radio volume for the best listening performance. Conversely, when an older wideband radio receives a signal from a new narrowband radio, the speech may sound quieter; adjust your radio volume accordingly. Interference may occur when operating a narrowband radio or Channels 41-80 if wideband radios are transmitting on high power or on adjacent frequencies. These issues are not a fault of the radio but a consequence of mixed use of wideband and narrowband radios.
This unit complies with all relevant Australian and New Zealand approval requirements AS/NZS 4365:2011.

Warnings and Safety Information
Potentially Explosive Atmosphere
Turn your radio OFF in areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere to prevent sparks that could cause an explosion or fire. Such areas may include fueling stations, chemical storage facilities, or areas with grain dust or metal powders. Always follow posted signs and instructions.
Blasting Caps and Areas
Turn your radio OFF near electrical blasting caps or in posted "blasting areas" to avoid interference with blasting operations. Obey all signs and instructions.
Electromagnetic Interference/Compatibility (EMI)
Turn off your radio in locations where posted notices instruct you to do so, such as healthcare facilities, to avoid potential electromagnetic interference and compatibility conflicts with other electronic devices.
Cautionary Notes for Installation and Operation
- This radio is designed for operation on a 12 Volt battery system. Do not connect directly to a 24 Volt system.
- When installing, ensure no wiring or vehicle components are damaged.
- Ensure the installation does not interfere with vehicle operation and meets all regulatory and safety requirements.
- For optimal performance, professional installation by a UHF specialist or auto electrician is recommended if you are unsure.
- Avoid mounting the radio near heaters or air conditioners.
- Never press the PTT button before connecting the antenna to the radio.
Installation of Your Oricom Radio
The radio is typically mounted using a bracket and screws, as illustrated in the diagram.
Wiring Methods
Two wiring configurations are possible:
A. Radio stays ON when the ignition is switched OFF
- Connect the negative (black) lead to the vehicle chassis or battery's negative terminal.
- Connect the positive (red) lead via a 3 Amp fuse to the battery's positive terminal or a point with continuous DC power (e.g., battery side of the ignition switch).
B. Radio turns OFF with the ignition switch
- Connect the negative (black) lead to the vehicle chassis or battery's negative terminal.
- Connect the positive (red) lead via a 3 Amp fuse to an accessory point in the vehicle's fuse box.
Antenna Information
The antenna (not supplied) is crucial for maximizing output power and receiver sensitivity. Use only an antenna designed for the 477 MHz frequency band. A poorly installed or inferior quality antenna will result in poor performance.
Antenna Installation
For maximum performance, select a high-quality antenna and mount it in a suitable location. Never press the PTT button before connecting the antenna to the radio.
Optional Accessories
- SPE85 External Speaker: An optional 8 ohm, minimum 5W speaker with a 3.5mm plug can be connected to the rear SP socket for improved volume and clarity.
- MMM100 Magnetic Microphone Holder: A holder for the microphone.
Quick Overview of Basic Controls
Multi-Function Buttons
Primary Functions (F, SC, PRI, ID, MO): Press the button once.
Secondary Functions (DPX, MEM, LO, CAL, TSQ): Press and hold the button for 2 seconds.
Third Functions (OS/GS, ALPHA, QUIET, MENU): Press the F/DPX button, then press the required function button.
Fourth Functions: Push the 200RX button for 2 seconds, then select the required instant channel.
Power ON / OFF
Rotate the power switch clockwise to turn the unit ON and adjust the volume. Rotate counter-clockwise until it clicks to turn OFF.
Squelch
Use the rotary SQL control to adjust the squelch level. Turning counter-clockwise reduces squelch (more signals heard, including weak ones), while turning clockwise increases squelch (fewer signals heard, reducing background noise).
To Select a Channel
Rotate the CH control clockwise or counter-clockwise to select the desired channel.
PTT (Push-To-Talk) Button
Before transmitting, listen to ensure the channel is not in use. Select the desired channel. Press the PTT button on the microphone and speak normally, holding it approximately 7 cm from your mouth. Release the PTT button to end transmission and listen for a reply.
Factory Reset
If the radio's display locks up or malfunctions, a factory reset may be necessary. Caution: This procedure clears all stored information. First, try turning the radio off and on again. If the issue persists, perform a reset: while holding the Channel Up button, turn the radio on. The LCD backlight will illuminate briefly, and the radio will return to its factory default settings.
