RadioMaster POCKET

User Manual & Quick Start Guide

Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the RadioMaster POCKET R/C transmitter. This system is versatile and suitable for beginners and experts alike. Please read the manual before use and keep it for future reference. Operating procedures and the manual may be updated without prior notice.

The POCKET transmitter is suitable for fixed-wing models, motor-powered, unpowered, helicopters, and multirotor drones. The model type can be selected, which activates specific mixes within the program.

Safety

Remote-controlled models are equipped with powerful motors and propellers with sharp edges. Pay increased attention to operational safety during flight. When setting up the RC system or performing repairs, it is strongly recommended to remove the propeller from the motor shaft.

Do not use the POCKET transmitter under the following conditions:

  • In adverse weather conditions: strong winds, rain, snow, thunderstorms, or in electromagnetic fields (e.g., near power lines).
  • In reduced visibility.
  • Do not fly over people, buildings, roads, or similar areas.
  • Do not fly when you are tired, unwell, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • If the model or other equipment is damaged or not functioning correctly.
  • In areas where the 2.4 GHz transmission frequency is jammed or not permitted.
  • When the battery voltage is low.
  • If local laws prohibit the operation of model aircraft.

Downloading Manual and Firmware

The current manual can be downloaded from: www.radiomasterrc.com

The POCKET transmitter comes with the EdgeTX firmware installed. The latest software can be downloaded from: https://edgetx.org

All these websites are originally in English.

Important Notes

Before powering on the transmitter, ensure the antenna is connected. Failure to do so can overload and damage the RF components, which is not covered by warranty.

Transmitter Control Layout

The POCKET transmitter features various controls:

  • Antenna: Located at the top.
  • DSC Port for Trainer: 3.5mm TRS jack for trainer function.
  • SB Switch, SA Switch: Located on the top shoulder.
  • Left Gimbal: Control stick.
  • SYS Button, RTN Button, Side Button (>), Side Button (<), TELE Button: Buttons on the front panel.
  • 3.5mm Headphone Jack: For audio output.
  • USB-C Port for Charging: Located on the bottom.
  • MDL Button, Roller/Push Control: On the front panel.
  • Speaker: Integrated.
  • SD Card Slot: For memory cards.
  • S1 Slider: On the side.
  • SE Momentary Switch: On the side.
  • External Module Bay: For additional RF modules.
  • Control Stick Bay: Space for control sticks.
  • Right Gimbal: Control stick.

  • LCD Display: Shows information.
  • USB Data Port: USB-C port for connecting to a computer.
  • SC Switch, SD Switch: Switches on the top shoulder.

Gimbal Adjustments

The transmitter allows for gimbal adjustments:

  • A) L-R (Mode 1/2 Swap): Rotating the screw clockwise releases the automatic centering (e.g., for throttle). Rotating counter-clockwise centers the gimbal (e.g., for elevator).
  • B) T Screw: Adjusts the tension for moving the throttle stick. Clockwise increases tension; counter-clockwise decreases it.
  • C) U-D (Up-Down): Rotating clockwise increases tension for vertical stick movement; counter-clockwise decreases it.
  • D) L-R (Left-Right): Rotating clockwise increases tension for horizontal stick movement; counter-clockwise decreases it.

Firmware Information

The POCKET transmitter comes with the EdgeTX software. Attempting firmware updates without sufficient knowledge may lead to system collapse or erratic behavior. Modifying software or firmware by the user voids the warranty for defects that appear after the update.

Power and Charging Information

The POCKET transmitter has a built-in USB charging system for its battery, which is a 2-cell Lithium Polymer pack (7.4V, i.e., 2 x 3.7V). The charging circuits are suitable for a 2 x 3.7V Lithium-ion 18650 battery or a 2 x 3.7V Lithium-polymer battery (2s 7.4V Lipo). The nominal voltage per cell is 3.7V, and the maximum charging voltage is 4.2V per cell.

Suitable Batteries:

  • 2 x 3.7V Li-ION 18650 (7.4V with housing)
  • 2 x 3.7V Lithium-polymer (connected as a 7.4V 2s battery)
  • 2 x 3.6V Lithium-polymer (connected as a 7.2V 2s battery)

DO NOT USE:

  • 6.6V LIFE batteries
  • LiFEP04 batteries

WARNING! Do not use 2S 6.6V LiFE or LiFEPO4 18650 batteries. The built-in USB charger cannot charge these batteries correctly and may cause damage to the transmitter or even a fire. Use only Li-Ion cells without built-in protection.

Regularly check the battery status and charge level. Never leave the transmitter unattended while charging. Charge on a non-flammable surface away from flammable materials. Do not charge if the transmitter is wet or damaged. Do not attempt to charge with reversed polarity.

RadioMaster is not responsible for any damage caused by failure to follow operating instructions or improper use of the product.

The battery is charged via the USB-C connector located on the bottom of the transmitter case. The included jumper connects to the USB-C socket on the top of the transmitter case, which is intended for data transfer when connected to a computer. Misusing this port can lead to irreversible damage to the transmitter, and such damage is not covered by warranty.

Notes on the Manual

This manual provides basic information about the transmitter. The EdgeTX software system used is very powerful and offers a vast number of programming and mixing functions. For more detailed instructions (in English), visit https://edgetx.org

A dedicated manual for Edge TX software does not yet exist. However, the Czech translation for Open TX software can be used without problems. It can be found at: https://www.horejsi.cz/Datafiles/Radiomaster/OpenTX_CZ.pdf

Model Selection and Protocol Setup (Multiprotocol Version)

The POCKET transmitter is manufactured in versions with the CC2500 RF chip protocol.

POCKET is compatible with a large number of protocols found in various receivers. The current list of compatible protocols can be found at http://www.multi-module.org. The list is updated regularly. Newly added protocols may require a firmware upgrade.

Setup Process:

  • Press and hold the MDL button to enter the model setting menu (Model Selection). On the SETUP screen, select MULTI. Then select the desired protocol (it may be one level deeper). The system will immediately start working in the selected mode.
  • Press BND (pairing) to initiate the pairing process.
  • The RNG button reduces the power to 1/30, which is suitable for pairing.

Model Selection and Protocol Setup (ELRS Version)

The POCKET transmitter in the ELRS (Extended Long Range System) version has an integrated ELRS transmitter module. Under normal conditions, it can provide a transmission power ranging from 25 to 1000 mW. It is recommended to set the power to 100mW and the refresh rate to 500Hz. Higher values would reduce battery life and increase component temperature.

Pairing Instructions:

  1. Turn off the transmitter.
  2. Turn the transmitter on and off 3 times in succession. This will enter pairing mode, indicated by the receiver's diode blinking twice.
  3. Turn on the transmitter. Press and hold SYS, then in the tool menu, select LUA with the name ExpressLRS. Navigate to Bind and press Enter.
  4. Successful pairing will be indicated by the receiver's diode glowing solid green.
