Spektrum NX Transmitters Frequently Asked Questions
Do the NX Transmitters (NX6/NX8/NX10) have diversity antennas?
Yes, all three NX transmitters have diversity antennas. The second antenna is located behind the transmitter nameplate. On older DX transmitters, the antenna was located in the transmitter handle.
Do the NX transmitters provide power to the serial port located on the back of the transmitter?
Only the NX10 provides power to its serial port (9.5V). The NX6 and NX8 do not provide power to the serial port, requiring an external power source for third-party modules.
Do the NX transmitters support the Immersion RC Ghost module?
Currently, compatibility is not supported, but Spektrum is working with Immersion RC to add compatibility.
Do the NX transmitters have an Android interface?
No, the NX transmitters do not use Android. They feature an updated version of the DX Airware interface.
Are the DX transmitters going away?
Yes, the DX6, DX8, and DX9 are being discontinued. The 'e' versions (DX6e / DX8e) will remain in the product line.
Is Horizon Hobby still providing customer support to DX radios?
Yes, Horizon Hobby will support DX radios for years to come and will provide Airware updates for the foreseeable future. However, support for new features may be limited if older hardware cannot accommodate them.
Do all NX transmitters feature Hall-effect gimbals?
No, only the NX10 features Hall-effect gimbals. Currently, this feature is not offered as an upgrade for the NX6 or NX8.
Can the NX transmitter share files with DX and iX transmitters?
Model files can be shared from DX to NX, but not from NX to DX. The iX transmitters can share models between DX and NX. When importing iX files, user interface-specific items like speech are not imported and are reset to defaults for newly created NX models.
Do all NX transmitters include the same size battery?
No. The NX6 and NX8 come with a 1S 2000mAh battery, while the NX10 includes a 6000mAh battery. The higher capacity battery can be used in the NX6 and NX8 by removing foam padding inside the battery tray, as the connector and size will fit without issue. For replacement batteries, see: 6000mAh iX12 Battery and 10500mAh iX20 Battery.
Can I get the magnetic USB connector from the NX10 for an NX6 or NX8?
Yes, the magnetic USB connector is available separately: Magnetic USB Connector.
Do the NX transmitters have a touchpad screen?
No, the NX transmitters use a roller and three buttons for navigation.
Can I use the NX6 with E-flite BNF planes with flaps and retracts (most warbirds) and still have a switch for SAFE Select?
Yes, the NX6 has an extra non-proportional and non-adjustable channel (aside from reversing) that can be used for SAFE Select.
Is Spektrum going to continue to offer the iX transmitters?
Yes, Spektrum will continue to offer and fully support the iX12 and iX20 transmitters.
Will the NX transmitters work with DSM2 receivers?
Yes, the NX transmitters are DSM2 and DSMX compatible. Please note that DSM2 is not available for EU variants.
What SD memory cards can be used with NX Transmitters?
Spektrum suggests using a Class 6 or lower, 32GB or smaller Micro SD Card formatted with FAT or FAT32 file systems. Some Class 10 cards from top brands like SanDisk and Toshiba may also work.
I somehow lost all my audio sounds and/or the preset model templates, how do I reload those?
Backup files for audio sounds and preset model templates are available on Cloud Drive: NXreload. Download the folders from the Cloud Drive to your computer and then transfer them to your transmitter using a PC and a generic Micro-USB cable.
I tried to update my NX Transmitter and now it seems stuck on the update screen, what can I do to fix this?
If your transmitter becomes inoperable after an update, follow these steps:
- Find a compatible micro-SD card for your NX transmitter.
- Log in to the SpektrumRC.com account used to register your NX Transmitter.
- Download Spektrum Airware update version 3.05 for your NX transmitter.
- Save the file as SPMTX.SAX to the root directory of the compatible Micro SD card. Rename the file if it is not already named SPMTX.SAX before ejecting the SD card.
- Ensure the transmitter is plugged in to charge to have sufficient power for the update.
- Insert the SD card into your NX transmitter and power it on. The transmitter will begin the update process.
- The loading bar on the screen will fill and restart several times; allow at least 10 minutes for the update to complete.
- Repeat the process with Firmware update version 3.06.
I updated my NX Transmitter, and now all the preset BNF model files are missing most of their name, only starting with the model's number (IE EFL1025-...) and is missing the full name, what can I do to fix this?
This issue can occur if Airware update 3.04 was skipped, which adjusted how many characters are displayed for folder directories. To fix this:
- Access the internal memory/SD card on your NX transmitter.
- Delete the existing BNF folder.
- Download the updated BNF folder from here.
- Copy and paste the newly downloaded BNF folder onto your NX transmitter's internal memory/SD card.
