Operation
Turning the JBL CINEMA SB250 ON and OFF
The system can be turned ON or put into Standby mode manually using the Power button on the soundbar or remote. The system automatically enters Standby mode after 10 minutes of inactivity. Auto-turn-on activates the system when an audio signal is detected from a paired Bluetooth source or the last used analog/optical input.
Turning the Subwoofer ON and OFF
The subwoofer turns on with the soundbar and remains active for a short period after the soundbar enters Standby mode or loses audio signal.
Pairing the Subwoofer to the Soundbar
To establish a wireless connection, press the pairing button on both the soundbar and subwoofer within 30 seconds of each other. The maximum wireless operating distance is approximately 50 feet (15.3m).
Operating through Bluetooth®
To stream audio wirelessly, ensure the JBL CINEMA SB250 is in Bluetooth pairing mode (Bluetooth LED flashing blue). Place your Bluetooth device in pairing mode and select "CINEMA SB250" from its list of available devices. Once paired, the Bluetooth LED will be solid blue. You can also wake the system from Standby by starting to stream audio from a paired device.
Adjusting the System Volume
It is recommended to turn off your TV's built-in speakers. Use the soundbar's Volume Up/Down buttons to set a comfortable listening level. Note: If the system is played at over 50% volume, it will automatically reset to 50% when turned off and back on.
Surround Mode Button
Press the Surround Mode button to switch between Harman Display Surround (amber indicator) for an immersive experience and Stereo mode (white indicator) for standard audio.
Programming JBL CINEMA SB250 to Respond to Your TV Remote
The soundbar can be programmed to respond to your TV remote's commands for power, mute, and volume. Follow the on-screen instructions carefully, ensuring the TV remote is aimed at the soundbar. To reset settings, press and hold the Surround and Volume (-) buttons simultaneously while the system is in Standby mode.
Placement
Placing the Soundbar
On a table: Place the soundbar directly in front of the TV screen, centered. Ensure the surface is flat. Set the soundbar's EQ switch to the "Table" position.
Wall-mounting: Use the included wall-mount bracket. Determine the location, mark holes (evenly spaced 7-1/16" or 18cm apart), and attach the bracket securely to the wall using appropriate hardware for your wall type. Connect cables, set the EQ switch to "Wall" and the power switch to "On". Slide the soundbar onto the bracket's tabs. Adjust the angle for leveling.
Subwoofer Placement
Subwoofer performance is influenced by room acoustics. Experiment with placement: corners (position 1) can maximize bass but may cause standing waves; placing it along the same plane as the soundbar (position 2) can improve integration; placement behind the listening position (position 3) is also an option. Test different locations with bass-heavy content to find the best spot for bass performance.
Important: Ensure the subwoofer's rear panel is at least 150 mm (6 inches) away from the wall for proper operation.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Solution |
---|---|
Soundbar does not turn ON | Check AC power cord connection to outlet and soundbar. |
Subwoofer does not turn ON | Check subwoofer power cord connection. Press the subwoofer's Power switch. Check subwoofer AC fuse. |
No sound from soundbar and subwoofer | Ensure soundbar is ON (white power indicator). Check cable connections to TV/source. Verify correct source is selected and playing. Ensure system is not muted. Check if soundbar volume is too low. |
No sound from subwoofer only | Check if Subwoofer Volume Control is turned down. Check wireless connection (solid blue LED). If flashing blue, restart pairing. |
Distorted sound | Move subwoofer closer to soundbar (max 50 ft/15.3m). Check source component for distortion. If using variable output, check source settings. |
Sound present even at max volume | Turn up subwoofer volume. Move subwoofer to a corner or closer to seating. |
Bass output not loud enough | Turn up the subwoofer's volume. Move the subwoofer to a corner or closer to the seating location. |
Volume resets on power cycle | This is a feature: volume resets to 50% if played above 50% and powered off. |
TV ON/Standby behavior | This may be related to TV's Hot Plug Detection (HPD) protocol. Toggle HPD by pressing Surround and Volume buttons simultaneously. |
