How to Make an Ethernet Cable?
-
Step 1: Gather the Ethernet cable, RJ45 connector (plug), crimping tool, and strain relief boot.
-
Step 2: Slide the strain relief boot onto the Ethernet cable, if one is used.
-
Step 3: Carefully strip off the outer jacket (skin) of the network cable using a cable stripper or the designated slot on the crimping tool.
-
Step 4: Ensure the outer jacket is cleanly removed.
-
Step 5: Untwist each pair of wires and straighten them individually.
-
Step 6: Arrange the straightened wires in the correct order according to the T568B color standard (White Orange, Orange, White Green, Blue, White Blue, Green, White Brown, Brown).
-
Step 7: Trim the ends of the wires neatly and evenly, ensuring they are the correct length to insert into the RJ45 connector.
-
Step 8: Carefully insert the arranged wires into the RJ45 connector, ensuring each wire goes into its designated channel. Verify the wire sequence one last time before crimping.
-
Step 9: Insert the prepared RJ45 connector (with wires) into the crimping tool's RJ45 slot. Ensure it is fully seated.
-
Step 10: Crimp the connector onto the cable by squeezing the handles of the crimping tool firmly.
-
Step 11: The Ethernet cable is now terminated. Visually inspect the connection.
-
Step 12: If a strain relief boot was used, slide it forward to cover the connector and cable entry point for strain relief and a finished look.
