Owner's Manual English Before using this unit, carefully read the sections entitled: "USING THE UNIT SAFELY" and "IMPORTANT NOTES" (supplied on a separate sheet). After reading, keep the document(s) where it will be available for immediate reference. Main Features The JB-2 is a distortion pedal cooperatively developed by JHS PEDALS and BOSS. 7 It is equipped with two completely independent distortion effects designed respectively by JHS PEDALS and BOSS. 7 By switching modes, you can use the JHS PEDALS and BOSS sounds individually, or use them together in series (with your choice of connection order) or parallel to create a wide variety of rock sounds. 7 If you connect a footswitch to the REMOTE jack, you can use it in conjunction with the pedal switch for additional options, such as switching between distortions or turning the effect on/off. Panel Descriptions DC IN jack Accepts connection of an AC Adaptor (PSA series; sold separately). By using an AC Adaptor, you can play without being concerned about how much battery power you have left. * We recommend that you keep batteries installed in the unit even though you'll be powering it with the AC adaptor. That way, you'll be able to continue a performance even if the cord of the AC adaptor gets accidentally disconnected from the unit. * Use only the specified AC adaptor (PSA-series). * If the AC adaptor is connected while power is on, the power supply is drawn from the AC adaptor. AC Adaptor (PSA series; sold separately) CHECK indicator This indicator shows whether an effect is ON/OFF, and doubles as the Battery Check indicator. The indicator lights when an effect is ON. The indicator also shows which effect is active: JHS PEDALS and/or BOSS. Indicator color Red Blue Purple Effect type JHS PEDALS BOSS Both JHS PEDALS and BOSS * If this indicator goes dim or no longer lights while an effect is ON, the battery is near exhaustion and should be replaced immediately. LEVEL knobs These adjust the volume of the effect sound. Clockwise rotation raises the volume and counterclockwise rotation decreases. TONE knobs These adjust the tone of the effect sound. As you rotate the knob clockwise, higher frequencies are emphasized, and counterclockwise cuts them. OUTPUT jack Connect an amplifier to this jack. Guitar Amplifier Pedal switch This switch turns the effect on/off or switches between the two types of distortion. * The operation that occurs when you press the pedal depends on the mode. For details, refer to "Operation at a Glance." MODE knob This switch switches between modes (JHS, BOSS, JHS/BOSS, JAB, BAJ, PARALLEL). For details, refer to "Mode List." DRIVE knobs These adjust the depth of the distortion effect. Rotating the knob clockwise deepens the distortion creating powerful distortion effect. Rotating the knob counterclockwise makes lighter distortion. INPUT jack This jack accepts input signals (coming from a guitar, some other electric or electronic musical instrument, or another effects unit). * The INPUT jack doubles as the power switch. Power to the unit is turned on when you plug into the INPUT jack; the power is turned off when the cable is unplugged. To prevent unnecessary battery consumption, be sure to disconnect the plug from the INPUT jack when not using the effects unit. Electric Guitar Thumbscrew When this screw is loosened, the pedal will open, allowing you to change the battery. * For instructions on changing the battery, refer to "Changing the Battery." REMOTE jack Here you can connect a latch-type footswitch (sold separately: FS-5L, FS-6, FS-7). * In the case of the FS-6 or FS-7, only latch mode can be used. By operating the footswitch you can switch between the two types of distortion or turn them on/off individually. For details, refer to "Operation at a Glance." IMPORTANT NOTES 5 Some settings might cause the JB-2 to oscillate or might result in increased noise, but this is not a malfunction. 5 To prevent malfunction and equipment failure, always turn down the volume, and turn off all the units before making any connections. 5 Once everything is properly connected, be sure to follow the procedure below to turn on their power. If you turn on equipment in the wrong order, you risk causing malfunction or equipment failure. When powering up: Turn on the power to your guitar amp last. When powering down: Turn off the power to your guitar amp first. 5 Before turning the unit on/off, always be sure to turn the volume down. Even with the volume turned down, you might hear some sound when switching the unit on/off. However, this is normal and does not indicate a malfunction. 5 If operating this unit on batteries, please use alkaline or carbon battery. 5 When operating on battery power only, the unit's indicator will become dim when battery power gets too low. Replace the battery as soon as possible. 5 If you handle batteries improperly, you risk explosion and fluid leakage. Make sure that you carefully observe all of the items related to batteries that are listed in "USING THE UNIT SAFELY" and "IMPORTANT NOTES" (supplied on a separate sheet). Changing the Battery 1. Hold down the pedal and loosen the thumbscrew, then open the pedal upward. * The pedal can be opened without detaching the thumbscrew completely. Thumbscrew Battery Snap Cord Battery Snap 9 V Battery Pedal Spring Base Coil Spring Guide Bush Hole Battery Housing 2. Remove the old battery from the battery housing, and remove the snap cord connected to it. 3. Connect the snap cord to the new battery, and place the battery inside the battery housing. * Be sure to carefully observe the battery's polarity (+ versus -). 4. Slip the coil spring onto the spring base on the back of the pedal, and then close the pedal. * Carefully avoid getting the snap cord caught in the pedal, coil spring, and battery housing. 5. Finally, insert the thumbscrew into the guide bush hole and fasten it securely. MODE List Use the MODE knob to select the effect you want. MODE Explanation JHS A high-gain distortion with a design based on the "Angry Charlie" made by JHS PEDALS. It's a classic sound with a distinctively rich low-frequency range and thick mids. BOSS An overdrive with a design based on the BOSS "BD-2" Blues Driver. It's noted for a broad range of expression that responds to your guitar volume and picking dynamics. With a broad range of gain variation, you can create a wide variety of sounds from crunch to hard rock. JHS/BOSS Switch between the "JHS" and "BOSS" effects. JAB (*1) Series connection in the order of "JHS" 0 "BOSS." BAJ (*1) Series connection in the order of "BOSS" 0 "JHS." PARALLEL (*1) "JHS" and "BOSS" circuits connected in parallel.
