When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed:
- Keep appliance and cord out of reach of children.
- Provide at least 6 inches (15.25 cm) of space above and on all sides for air circulation.
- Do not use an extension cord.
- Do not immerse cord, plugs, or main unit housing in water or other liquid.
- Do not use if the power cord or plug is damaged.
- Never use an outlet below the countertop.
- Do not place appliance or let cord hang over edges of tables, counters or touch hot surfaces.
- Use only recommended accessories.
- Ensure cooking pot and splatter shield are installed.
- Always ensure hood is fully closed before operating.
- Do not move the appliance when in use.
- Do not cover air intake or outlet vents.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use protective pads or insulated oven mitts.
- Do not touch accessories during or immediately after cooking.
- Do not use for deep-frying.
- Do not place hands near Foodi Smart Thermometer cord when in use.
- The Foodi Smart Thermometer does not replace an external food thermometer.
- Always use an external food thermometer to check food doneness.
- In case of a grease fire or black smoke, unplug immediately.
- Refer to Cleaning & Maintenance section for regular maintenance.
- Allow to cool before cleaning, disassembling, or storing.
- Do not clean with metal scouring pads.
- Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children.
- Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.

Function Buttons:
- GRILL: Indoor grilling with char, grill marks, and flavor.
- AIR CRISP: Crispy results with little to no oil.
- BAKE: For cakes, treats, desserts, and more.
- ROAST: Tenderizes meats, roasts vegetables, etc.
- DEHYDRATE: For dehydrating meats, fruits, and vegetables.
- BROIL: For crisping or melting cheese.
Operating Buttons:
- POWER (☉): Turns the unit on/off.
- Left Arrows (↑/↓): Adjust cooking temperature or set internal doneness (PRESET/MANUAL).
- Right Arrows (↑/↓): Set food type (PRESET) or adjust cook time.
- MANUAL button: Manually set thermometer internal doneness. Does not work with Dehydrate.
- PRESET button: Set thermometer, food type, and doneness based on presets. Does not work with Dehydrate.
- START/STOP (▶/◼): Starts or stops cooking.
Note: Unit will go into Standby Mode after 10 minutes of inactivity. Preheat is indicated by a progress bar.
Before First Use
- Remove all packaging materials.
- Wash all accessories (except thermometer) in warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly. Accessories are dishwasher safe.
- NEVER clean the main unit or thermometer in the dishwasher.
Using the Ninja Foodi Smart XL Grill
Splatter Shield
Located on the underside of the hood, it keeps the heating element clean. ALWAYS ensure it is installed. Failure to do so can cause smoking.
- To Remove: Push the upper left tab toward the back of the hood to release.
- To Install: Insert, aligning grooves, then push upward until it clicks.

Select grill grate temperature settings for common ingredients:

Note: For less smoke, use canola, coconut, avocado, grapeseed, or vegetable oil.
Note: If the unit is already warm, "ADD FOOD" may appear immediately. Allow grill grate to heat for at least 6 minutes.
Batch Grilling
For more than two consecutive batches, empty fat/oil from the cooking pot and clean the splatter shield between uses to prevent smoke.
Using the Foodi Smart Thermometer
IMPORTANT: DO NOT place hands near the thermometer cord during use.
- Before First Use: Ensure thermometer jack is clean and cord is free of knots. Unwind cord from storage compartment and plug firmly into the jack.
- Plug in the thermometer. The PRESET and MANUAL buttons will illuminate. Select function and temperature. No cook time is needed; the unit alerts you when done.
- PRESET: Select food type and desired internal doneness (Rare through Well).
- MANUAL: Use recommended internal cook temperatures (see chart below). Note that Beef/Lamb presets are lower due to carry-over cooking.

Note: USDA guidelines for food-safe temperatures should be referenced. Unit accounts for 10-15°F carry-over cooking for Beef/Lamb.
- Place accessory in unit, close hood. Press START/STOP to preheat.
- While preheating, insert thermometer horizontally into the thickest part of the protein.
- When "ADD FOOD" appears, open hood, place food with thermometer, close hood over cord.
- Progress bar tracks doneness. Unit beeps and displays "GET FOOD" when desired doneness is almost reached.
- Transfer protein to a plate for 3-5 minutes rest. Thermometer will be hot; use mitts or tongs to remove.
Cooking Multiple Proteins:
- Same size, different doneness: Set to highest doneness, remove lower doneness protein when ready.
- Different sizes: Insert thermometer in smaller protein, set to its doneness. Remove when done, transfer thermometer to larger protein, adjust doneness.
- Different types: Insert thermometer in protein with lower desired doneness, use Manual setting. Remove when done, transfer thermometer to other protein, adjust Manual setting.

Cooking Functions
Grill
- Place cooking pot, then grill grate (handles up). Ensure splatter shield is in place, close hood.
- Press GRILL. Adjust temperature using left arrows (up to MAX).
- Adjust cook time using right arrows (up to 30 mins), or use thermometer.
- Press START/STOP to preheat (approx. 10 mins).
- When "ADD FOOD" appears, open hood, place food, close hood. Cooking begins.
- Unit beeps and displays "END" when cook time is complete.
Air Crisp
- Place cooking pot, then crisper basket. Ensure splatter shield is in place, close hood.
- Press AIR CRISP. Adjust temperature using left arrows (up to 400°F).
- Adjust cook time using right arrows (up to 1 hour), or use thermometer.
- Press START/STOP to preheat (approx. 3 mins).
- When "ADD FOOD" appears, open hood, place food, close hood. Cooking begins.
- Shake ingredients frequently for best results. Unit pauses when hood is opened.
- Unit beeps and displays "END" when cook time is complete.
Roast
- Place cooking pot. Ensure splatter shield is in place, close hood.
- Press ROAST. Adjust temperature using left arrows (up to 425°F).
- Adjust cook time using right arrows (up to 1 hour, then 1-4 hours in 5-min increments), or use thermometer.
- Press START/STOP to preheat (approx. 3 mins).
- When "ADD FOOD" appears, open hood, place food, close hood. Cooking begins.
- Unit beeps and displays "END" when cook time is complete.
Bake
- Place cooking pot. Ensure splatter shield is in place, close hood.
- Press BAKE. Adjust temperature using left arrows (up to 400°F).
- Adjust cook time using right arrows (up to 1 hour, then 1-2 hours in 5-min increments), or use thermometer.
- Press START/STOP to preheat (approx. 3 mins).
- When "ADD FOOD" appears, open hood, add ingredients or bake pan, close hood. Cooking begins.
- Unit beeps and displays "END" when cook time is complete.
Dehydrate (Not available on all models)
- Place cooking pot, then crisper basket with ingredients. Ensure splatter shield is in place, close hood.
- Press DEHYDRATE. Adjust temperature using left arrows (up to 195°F).
- Adjust time using right arrows (in 15-min increments, up to 12 hours).
- Press START/STOP to begin. (No preheat).
- Unit beeps and displays "END" when time is complete.
Broil
- Place cooking pot, then crisper basket with ingredients. Ensure splatter shield is in place, close hood.
- Press BROIL. Adjust temperature using left arrows (up to 500°F).
- Adjust cook time using right arrows (up to 30 mins), or use thermometer.
- Press START/STOP to begin. (No preheat).
- Unit beeps and displays "END" when cook time is complete.
Cleaning Your Ninja Foodi Smart XL Grill
- Clean thoroughly after every use. Allow to cool before cleaning.
- Unplug unit before cleaning. Keep hood open to cool faster.
- Cooking pot, grill grate, crisper basket, splatter shield, cleaning brush are dishwasher safe (except thermometer).
- DO NOT place thermometer in dishwasher.
- For best results, rinse accessories before dishwasher.
- Hand-wash with warm, soapy water and the cleaning brush. Use brush's opposite end as a scraper for stuck-on food. Air-dry or towel-dry.
- NOTE: DO NOT use liquid cleaning solution on or near the thermometer jack. Use compressed air or a cotton swab.
- Soaking grill grate, basket, or splatter shield overnight can help remove baked-on grease.
- Boil splatter shield in water for 10 minutes for deep cleaning. Rinse and dry.
- Foodi Smart Thermometer and its holder are hand-wash only. Do not immerse. Clean with a damp cloth.
- NEVER use abrasive cleaners or immerse the main unit in water.

Troubleshooting
- "Add Food" appears: Unit has preheated; add ingredients.
- "Shut Lid" appears: Hood is open; close it to start cooking.
- "Plug In" appears: Thermometer not plugged in. Plug it in firmly.
- "PRBE ERR" appears: Unit timed out before food reached set internal temperature.
- "E" appears: Unit not functioning properly. Contact Customer Service.
- Food over/undercooked with thermometer: Ensure thermometer is inserted correctly into the thickest part. Allow food to rest.
- Preheat progress bar not starting from beginning: Unit was recently used and is still warm.
- Cancel/override preheating: Press PREHEAT button after START/STOP to skip.
- Add ingredients before or after preheating: For best results, add after preheating.
- Unit emitting smoke: Ensure correct temperature setting is used for Grill function and splatter shield is installed.
- Pause unit to check food: Unit pauses automatically when hood is opened.
- Thermometer grip melting: Grip is made of high-temperature silicone and should not melt.
- Food is burned: Do not add food until preheating is complete. Check progress and remove food when desired doneness is achieved. Remove immediately after cook time.
- Circuit breaker tripped: Unit requires a 15-amp circuit. Ensure it's the only appliance on the circuit.
- Beef Preset 1-9 scale: Allows customization of doneness preference.
One (1) Year Limited Warranty
SharkNinja warrants the unit against defects in material and workmanship for one (1) year from the date of purchase when used under normal household conditions.
What is covered:
- Defective original unit and/or non-wearable parts will be repaired or replaced.
- Warranty coverage for replacement units ends six (6) months after receipt or remainder of existing warranty, whichever is later.
What is not covered:
- Normal wear and tear of wearable parts (e.g., lids, blades, pots, racks).
- Units tampered with or used for commercial purposes.
- Damage from misuse, abuse, negligent handling, failure to maintain, or transit damage.
- Consequential and incidental damages.
- Defects caused by unauthorized repair persons.
- Products purchased, used, or operated outside North America.
