Note: Unit will go into Standby Mode after 10 minutes of inactivity. Preheat is indicated by a progress bar.

Before First Use

  1. Remove all packaging materials.
  2. Wash all accessories (except thermometer) in warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly. Accessories are dishwasher safe.
  3. NEVER clean the main unit or thermometer in the dishwasher.

Using the Ninja Foodi Smart XL Grill

Splatter Shield

Located on the underside of the hood, it keeps the heating element clean. ALWAYS ensure it is installed. Failure to do so can cause smoking.

GrillControl Technology

Select grill grate temperature settings for common ingredients:

LO (400°F) MED (450°F) HI (500°F) MAX (up to 510°F)
Bacon, Sausages, Thick BBQ sauce Frozen meats, Marinated/Sauced meats Steaks, Chicken, Burgers, Hot dogs, Meat kebabs Veggies, Fruit, Pizzas, Seafood, Veggie Kebabs

Note: For less smoke, use canola, coconut, avocado, grapeseed, or vegetable oil.

Note: If the unit is already warm, "ADD FOOD" may appear immediately. Allow grill grate to heat for at least 6 minutes.

Batch Grilling

For more than two consecutive batches, empty fat/oil from the cooking pot and clean the splatter shield between uses to prevent smoke.

Using the Foodi Smart Thermometer

IMPORTANT: DO NOT place hands near the thermometer cord during use.

Recommended Internal Cook Temperatures (Manual Setting):

FOOD TYPE SET DONENESS TO
Fish Medium (130°F), Medium Well (140°F), Well Done (150°F)
Chicken/Turkey Well Done (165°F)
Pork Medium (130°F), Medium Well (150°F), Well Done (160°F)
Beef/Lamb Rare (115°F), Medium Rare (125°F), Medium (130°F), Medium Well (145°F), Well Done (150°F)

Note: USDA guidelines for food-safe temperatures should be referenced. Unit accounts for 10-15°F carry-over cooking for Beef/Lamb.

  1. Place accessory in unit, close hood. Press START/STOP to preheat.
  2. While preheating, insert thermometer horizontally into the thickest part of the protein.
  3. When "ADD FOOD" appears, open hood, place food with thermometer, close hood over cord.
  4. Progress bar tracks doneness. Unit beeps and displays "GET FOOD" when desired doneness is almost reached.
  5. Transfer protein to a plate for 3-5 minutes rest. Thermometer will be hot; use mitts or tongs to remove.

Note: Do not use with frozen protein or cuts thinner than 1 inch.

Cooking Functions

Grill

  1. Place cooking pot, then grill grate (handles up). Ensure splatter shield is in place, close hood.
  2. Press GRILL. Adjust temperature using left arrows (up to MAX).
  3. Adjust cook time using right arrows (up to 30 mins), or use thermometer.
  4. Press START/STOP to preheat (approx. 10 mins).
  5. When "ADD FOOD" appears, open hood, place food, close hood. Cooking begins.
  6. Unit beeps and displays "END" when cook time is complete.

Air Crisp

  1. Place cooking pot, then crisper basket. Ensure splatter shield is in place, close hood.
  2. Press AIR CRISP. Adjust temperature using left arrows (up to 400°F).
  3. Adjust cook time using right arrows (up to 1 hour), or use thermometer.
  4. Press START/STOP to preheat (approx. 3 mins).
  5. When "ADD FOOD" appears, open hood, place food, close hood. Cooking begins.
  6. Shake ingredients frequently for best results. Unit pauses when hood is opened.
  7. Unit beeps and displays "END" when cook time is complete.

Roast

  1. Place cooking pot. Ensure splatter shield is in place, close hood.
  2. Press ROAST. Adjust temperature using left arrows (up to 425°F).
  3. Adjust cook time using right arrows (up to 1 hour, then 1-4 hours in 5-min increments), or use thermometer.
  4. Press START/STOP to preheat (approx. 3 mins).
  5. When "ADD FOOD" appears, open hood, place food, close hood. Cooking begins.
  6. Unit beeps and displays "END" when cook time is complete.

Bake

  1. Place cooking pot. Ensure splatter shield is in place, close hood.
  2. Press BAKE. Adjust temperature using left arrows (up to 400°F).
  3. Adjust cook time using right arrows (up to 1 hour, then 1-2 hours in 5-min increments), or use thermometer.
  4. Press START/STOP to preheat (approx. 3 mins).
  5. When "ADD FOOD" appears, open hood, add ingredients or bake pan, close hood. Cooking begins.
  6. Unit beeps and displays "END" when cook time is complete.

Dehydrate (Not available on all models)

  1. Place cooking pot, then crisper basket with ingredients. Ensure splatter shield is in place, close hood.
  2. Press DEHYDRATE. Adjust temperature using left arrows (up to 195°F).
  3. Adjust time using right arrows (in 15-min increments, up to 12 hours).
  4. Press START/STOP to begin. (No preheat).
  5. Unit beeps and displays "END" when time is complete.

Broil

  1. Place cooking pot, then crisper basket with ingredients. Ensure splatter shield is in place, close hood.
  2. Press BROIL. Adjust temperature using left arrows (up to 500°F).
  3. Adjust cook time using right arrows (up to 30 mins), or use thermometer.
  4. Press START/STOP to begin. (No preheat).
  5. Unit beeps and displays "END" when cook time is complete.
