Rosco WindowCling™ Installation Instructions
Brand: Rosco
Introduction
Rosco WindowCling is a temporary film designed for installation onto glass or plastic windows. It effectively controls windowlight brightness and can cling to windows for approximately 4-6 weeks, depending on environmental factors like temperature, humidity, and airflow.
Tools Needed
- Non-streak window cleaner
- Paper towels
- Microfiber terry towel cloth
- A sharp matte knife/boxcutter with snap-off blade tips
- Clear tape & paper/masking tape (optional)
- Squeegee (optional)
Image Description: Tools required for installation include a spray bottle of cleaner, paper towels, a microfiber cloth, a matte knife, and tape.
Installation Steps
1. Clean & Buff the Window
- Thoroughly clean the window using a non-streak glass and plastic cleaner. Clean both sides if possible to remove dirt, dust, and debris.
- Dry thoroughly with a paper towel or a clean microfiber terry towel.
- Once the surface is clean, use a dry, clean microfiber terry towel to buff the window with quick circular motions to increase surface static.

2. Install the WindowCling Onto the Window
- Cut a piece of WindowCling slightly larger than the window for easier handling.
- For easier installation, you can temporarily tape the WindowCling panel to the top of the window with paper/masking tape (Optional).
- Starting in one upper corner, position the WindowCling and align one side along the edge of the window frame.
- The WindowCling should attach electrostatically. If not, remove and buff the window further with a dry microfiber terry towel to generate more static.
- Using a sharp matte knife, boxcutter, or blade, use the window frame as a guide to trim away any excess material.
- Use the clean terry towel to smooth out any ripples and release trapped air by wiping towards the outside edges of the windowpane. A squeegee can be used if air pockets are difficult to release.
- Save the roll packaging for storing the WindowCling after removal.

3. Secure the Edges With Clear Tape (Optional)
Applying small amounts of clear tape on the corners and/or edges is optional but can help keep the WindowCling in place longer.
4. Apply Additional WindowCling Layers (If Needed)
- Rosco WindowCling is designed to be stacked onto windows to further dim or darken windowlight.
- Repeat the instructions in Step #2 to stack layers of WindowCling to achieve the desired window brightness.
- WindowCling can be layered up to 8 stops before any noticeable color shift occurs.
Image Description: Two windows are shown. The left window displays '#8609 ND9'. The right window displays '#8609 ND9 + #8601 D/N', illustrating how multiple layers can be applied.
Note About The D/N Layer
WindowCling #8601 is designed to be stacked with other WindowCling ND filters to create a "Day For Night" effect. This 2.5 stop ND filter has a steel blue tint, serving as the base layer for a dark, moonlit scene. Combine the D/N Layer with the appropriate WindowCling ND filter to achieve the desired darkness.
5. Uninstalling WindowCling
- Have the original core from the roll handy. A 2-inch (50cm) wide wrapping paper tube or plastic pipe/conduit can also be used.
- Start by peeling the WindowCling away from the window at a top corner.
- Once the top edge is disengaged, roll the edge onto the core and continue rolling until the entire panel is rolled onto the core.
- Avoid creasing or folding the material as you re-roll it.
- Store the WindowCling in its original roll bag or another plastic bag to keep it clean for future use.
General Notes on Static Electricity
Rosco WindowCling works using static electricity. The amount of static generated can vary based on environmental factors like temperature and humidity. Drier conditions are ideal for generating static electricity.
If sufficient static electricity cannot be generated, it may be necessary to create film suction by applying soapy water to the window, then using a squeegee to remove any bubbles after the film is applied.
