Osmo Setup Guide for iPad
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up your Osmo device for use with an iPad.
Getting Started
To begin using your Osmo, ensure you have the following:
- A compatible iPad.
- An Osmo iPad base & reflector.
- An Apple ID.
- An internet connection.
- Adequate lighting in the room.
Step 1: Ensure you have a compatible iPad
Osmo is compatible with most iPads. However, it is NOT compatible with:
- iPad Gen 1
- iPad Pro 11-inch
- iPad Pro 12.9 inch
To check your iPad model, go to SETTINGS > GENERAL > ABOUT.
Step 2: Ensure you have an Osmo iPad base & reflector
There are different Osmo bases available for iPads and Fire tablets. Ensure you are using the correct base and reflector for your device.
Classic Base for iPad
New Base for iPad
Base for Fire tablets (Closed)
Base for Fire tablets (Extended)
The reflector should be placed over the iPad's camera.
Step 3: Make sure you have an Apple ID
- Go to the Apple ID account page: https://appleid.apple.com/
- Click "Create your Apple ID".
- Enter your name, birthday, email, password, and country/region matching your payment method.
- Select your security questions.
- Click "Continue".
Step 4: Ensure you have an Internet connection
An internet connection is required for:
- Downloading apps onto the iPad.
- Creating a myOsmo account.
- Syncing game progress in myOsmo.
- Downloading Words albums.
- Using the search feature in the Masterpiece game.
Step 5: Ensure adequate lighting in the room
Avoid spotlights on the game pieces. Ensure light is not coming from behind your setup to prevent shadows.
Step 6: Remove any cases or protective coverings from the device
Only the Osmo Speck case is compatible with the newly designed Osmo base and reflector.
Step 7: Place your device on the Osmo base and center the reflector over the camera
Follow the visual guide to correctly position your iPad on the Osmo base and align the reflector with the camera.
Step 8: Download the Osmo World app
The Osmo World app serves as a hub for all your Osmo games, allowing quick access and switching between them. Each game still needs to be downloaded individually.

Step 9: Create a myOsmo account and add a profile for each player
A myOsmo account saves your child's game progress, even if the app is deleted or a device is switched.
To create a myOsmo account:
- Open the Osmo World app.
- Tap "myOsmo" in the top right corner.
- Tap "Create Free Account".
- Follow the on-screen prompts to create your account.
Step 10: Install each Osmo game from the Osmo World app
To install games:
- Open the Osmo World app and sign in to your myOsmo account.
- Use the game icon carousel at the bottom of the screen to find your purchased Osmo games.
- Tap the "Install" button for each game to download it to your device.
Step 11: Launch an Osmo game by tapping on the icon from the Osmo World app
Locate the game icon within the Osmo World app and tap it to start playing.
Step 12: Download the parent app to your phone to keep track of player progress in games
You can download the Osmo Parent app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store by using the search bar.
