IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
READ AND SAVE THESE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS AIR PURIFIER
When using electrical appliances, basic precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following:
- Read all instructions before operating the air purifier.
- Place air purifier where it is not easily knocked over by persons in the household.
- Always turn the air purifier to the OFF position and unplug from the wall outlet when not in use.
- To disconnect the air purifier, first turn control to the OFF position, grip the plug and pull it from the wall outlet. Never pull by the cord.
- Do not use any product with a damaged cord or plug or if product malfunctions, is dropped or damaged in any manner. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
- Do not use air purifier outdoors.
- Never use air purifier unless it is fully assembled.
- Do not run power cord under carpets, and do not cover with throw rugs. Arrange cord such that it will not be tripped over.
- Do not use air purifier where combustible gases or vapors are present.
- Do not expose the air purifier to rain, or use near water, in a bathroom, laundry area or other damp location.
- The air purifier must be used in its upright position.
- Do not allow foreign objects to enter ventilation or exhaust openings as this may cause electric shock or damage to the air purifier. Do not block air outlets or intakes.
- Locate air purifier near the outlet and avoid using an extension cord.
- This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of shock, this plug is intended to fit only one way in a polarized outlet. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. DO NOT attempt to defeat this safety feature.
- A loose fit between the AC outlet (receptacle) and plug may cause overheating and a distortion of the plug. Contact a qualified electrician to replace loose or worn outlet.
- Do not sit, stand or place heavy objects on the air purifier.
- Disconnect power supply before servicing.
WARNING: To Reduce The Risk of Fire or Electric Shock, Do Not Use This Air Purifier With Any Solid-State Speed Control Device.
INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the enviracaire® IFD Air Purifier with a breakthrough technology in air purification. Please read below on how to operate and care for your new air purifier.
YOUR IFD AIR PURIFIER
Fig. 1 shows the components of the IFD Air Purifier: IFD Filter Housing, IFD Filter, Pre-Filter, and Rear Grille.
SET-UP
- Select a firm, level and flat location. For proper air flow, locate the unit at least 3 feet (1 M) from any wall or furniture.
- Ensure the exit grille faces away from the closest wall or furniture.
- Ensure no grilles are blocked.
- Plug into a grounded 120V outlet. See IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS.
OPERATION
- Ensure the air purifier is plugged into a working outlet and the Control Knob is in the OFF position.
- Rotate the Control Knob to the desired speed level: TURBO or QUIET (Fig. 2).
- The Indicator Light will illuminate when the power is on.
- Turn the Control Knob to the OFF position to turn off the air purifier.
Fig. 2 illustrates the Control Knob, Indicator Light, and Filter Reset Button.
ELECTRONIC FILTER INDICATOR (Select Models)
Certain IFD air purifier models are equipped with an electronic filter indicator to serve as a convenient guideline for cleaning the IFD and pre-filter based on the air purifier's hours of use and operating power level. Once the filter has reached its capacity level, the light will remain on until it is RESET. You may unplug the air purifier without interrupting the filter indicator. A red LED light will illuminate and blink when it is time to clean the filters. Please clean the filters according to the directions outlined in the next section.
To RESET the Electronic Filter Indicator:
When the filter indicator light blinks, it is time to check/clean the IFD Filter and reset the Electronic Filter Indicator, if needed. With the unit powered on, insert the tip of a ball point pen or paperclip into the Filter Reset Button located above the Indicator Light. Hold down for approximately 5 seconds until the light turns off (Fig. 3).
Depending upon your individual usage (environment and hours used), you may need to check and clean the filter more or less frequently. If the IFD Filter is cleaned before the filter indicator light turns on, the Electronic Filter Indicator should be reset at the same time.
REMOVING / CLEANING THE IFD FILTER
To remove the IFD filter:
- Turn the Control Knob to the OFF position and UNPLUG the air purifier.
- Pull the notch to release the rear grille (Fig. 4).
- Remove the rear grille.
- Gently pull the IFD Filter out of its housing by grasping the center of the filter and pulling towards you (Fig. 5).
To clean the IFD filter:
- DO NOT USE WATER OR OTHER LIQUIDS TO CLEAN THE IFD FILTER.
- After removing the IFD Filter from the air purifier, gently tap the filter onto a firm surface within a trash receptacle to release the captured particles.
- To vacuum-clean the filter, lay the filter on a flat surface and run a vacuum cleaner with a nozzle or brush attachment along the filter to pick-up dirt (Fig. 6).
If the IFD Filter clogs or you have difficulty cleaning the filter, please visit our website at www.kaz.com or call us at 1-800-332-1110.
CLEANING THE PRE-FILTER
The particle pre-filter helps pick-up large airborne particles that enter the rear grille. This pre-filter can be removed and rinsed by hand under warm water. Let the pre-filter dry completely before inserting it back into the unit.
INSTALLING THE FILTERS
Please make certain that the Control Knob is in the OFF position and the air purifier is unplugged.
To install the IFD Filter and pre-filter:
- Hold the filter with the top arrows pointing up (↑) and the insert arrows pointing towards the unit (→) (Fig. 7).
- Gently insert the IFD Filter into the filter compartment.
- Make certain that the IFD Filter is secure in the unit.
- Grasp the pre-filter at the top and align to cover the IFD Filter.
- Snap the rear grille into place.
Fig. 7 shows the correct orientation for installing the IFD Filter and Pre-Filter.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
- Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe the external surfaces of the air purifier. DO NOT USE WATER, GASOLINE, POLISH, OR ANY CHEMICAL SOLUTION.
- The IFD filter and pre-filter should be cleaned at least once a month, or sooner depending on the air quality of the room (See “Removing/Cleaning the IFD Filter" or "Cleaning the Pre-Filter" respectively).
