SMART Software Update: Image and Video Search Service Changes and Workarounds
Microsoft has announced the retirement of services that powered image and video search within SMART software. Users are advised to update their SMART software to the latest version to prevent workflow disruptions. Downloads are accessible over-the-air or via support.smarttech.com/downloads.
Additionally, due to search quota limitations imposed by a provider, YouTube video search functionality in SMART software may not perform as expected. SMART Technologies is actively working with YouTube to increase these limits and is awaiting approval. In the interim, the following workarounds have been documented:
Workarounds by Product
iQ 4
- Run the YouTube app in split screen to watch videos during teaching sessions.
- If the display has iQ 4.6 or later installed, open the YouTube app and use the Share button to insert the video into a whiteboard page.
iQ 3
- Switch to the Browser app to view a YouTube video. For users with a SMART Board MX (V3), MX (V4), 6000S (V3), or QX Pro series display, split screen can also be used to watch YouTube videos in the Browser app while whiteboarding.
SMART Notebook
- Add a link to a favorite video within a lesson to quickly launch videos during teaching.
Lumio
- Lumio is not expected to be affected by this specific limit, allowing continued normal usage. Users can also apply the same suggestions provided for SMART Notebook to insert images and videos.
