General Safety and Usage Instructions
For Outdoor Use Only: This product is designed for outdoor use only. Never use in a building, enclosed space, carport, garage, veranda, covered patio, or under any overhead structure.
Read Instructions: Read all instructions and safety warnings before using the side burner. Failure to follow these may result in serious bodily injury or death, and/or property loss.
Hot Surfaces: Accessible parts may become very hot during use. Keep children and pets away from the side burner.
Operation: Do not attempt to move the side burner during use. Always turn off the gas supply at the gas cylinder when not in use. Any modification or misuse of the burner can be dangerous.
Leak Testing: Perform leak tests before first use, annually, when dismantled, when parts are replaced, or if the gas cylinder is removed or replaced. Never use an open flame for leak testing. Perform tests in a well-ventilated area with all control knobs in the 'OFF' position. Apply a soap and water solution to gas system joints, valve connections, hose connections, and regulator connections. If bubbles form, there is a leak. Turn off gas, tighten joints, and repeat. If leaks persist, do not use the side burner and contact your local dealer.
Positioning: Ensure the unit is positioned on flat, level ground to aid with fat/grease run-off. Keep the side burner a minimum of 1 metre (40 inches) from flammable items or structures on all sides and the back.
Gas Type: GRILLSKÄR side burner is designed for use with liquid propane (LP) gas only. Do not use with natural (piped in city) gas. Valves, orifices, hose, and regulator are for LP gas only.
Gas Cylinder: Always keep the cylinder vertical. When changing the gas cylinder, ensure the unit is switched off and there are no ignition sources nearby. Do not store spare LP gas cylinders under or near this appliance. Cylinders must be stored upright, in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from heat or ignition sources, and out of reach of children.
Ventilation: This side burner shall only be used above ground in an open-air situation with natural ventilation, where gas leakage and products of combustion are rapidly dispersed by wind and natural convection. Do not obstruct the flow of combustion and ventilation air.
Maintenance: Regularly maintain your side burner. Do not allow grease, fat, or food residue to build up. Always replace worn parts. Do not use if a leak, wear, or damage is found.
Storage: Store the side burner uncovered in a cool, dry place like a shed or garage. Cover burners with aluminum foil to prevent debris collection. If storing indoors, disconnect the gas cylinder and store it outside.
Important: Accessible parts may be very hot. Keep young children away. Always wear protective gloves or a barbecue mitt when handling hot components.
Cooking Vessel: Use only a cooking vessel with a diameter between 10cm (3.9") and 26cm (10").
Lighting the Side Burner
1. Open the side burner lid.
2. Ensure all control knobs are in the "OFF" position.
3. Turn on the gas supply at the gas cylinder.
4. Push the control knob down and turn to the ignition position.
5. Hold the control knob in for at least 10 seconds to ensure the burner stays lit.
6. If ignition does not occur within 5 seconds, turn the burner control off, wait 5 minutes, and repeat the lighting procedure. Do not continuously hold the control knob in, as this may cause a build-up of gas.
7. In windy conditions, shield the burner from wind to ensure easy lighting.
8. Turn the control knob to adjust burner settings as required.
Manual Lighting: Place a lit match beside the burner. Push and turn the control knob to the high position.
Turning Off Your Side Burner
Push the control knob in and turn to the "OFF" position. Turn off the gas supply and disconnect the cylinder when not in use. The regulator must be disconnected when the side burner is not in use.
Food Safety
Always wash your hands before and after handling uncooked meat and before eating. Keep raw meat away from cooked meat and other foods. Ensure side burner surfaces and utensils are clean and free of old food residue. Do not use the same utensils for raw and cooked foods.
Ensure all meat is cooked thoroughly before eating. Eating raw or undercooked meat can cause food poisoning. To reduce the risk, cut open meat to ensure it is cooked all the way through internally. Cooked meat juices should be clear, with no pink or red coloring.
After cooking, always clean the cooking surfaces and utensils.
Care and Maintenance
Regularly clean your side burner between uses and especially after extended storage. Ensure the unit and its components are sufficiently cool before cleaning. Do not expose the unit to outdoor weather conditions or store in damp areas. Never douse hot surfaces with water. Never handle hot parts without gloves.
For extended life and condition, it is recommended to cover the unit when left outside for extended periods, especially during winter.
Servicing is recommended either after every 100 hours of use or annually, whichever comes first.
Keep the outdoor cooking area clear of combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids. Do not obstruct combustion and ventilation air flow.
Burner Maintenance: In normal use, burning off residue after cooking keeps burners clean. Clean burners annually, or when heavy build-up occurs, to prevent blockage of portholes or venturi tubes. A blocked burner can cause a fire. Visually inspect burner operation; there should be flame from all portholes.
Visual Description: Figures show correct burner operation with flames from all portholes and correct burner installation relative to the burner orifice.
Storage
Do not leave your side burner uncovered when not in use. Store in a cool, dry place like a shed or garage to protect against weather conditions. Prolonged exposure to sunlight, standing water, or sea air can cause damage.
Cover burners with aluminum foil to prevent insects or debris from collecting in burner holes.
If storing indoors, disconnect the gas cylinder and store it outside in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from heat or ignition sources. Do not let children tamper with the cylinder. Cylinders must be stored out of reach of children and not in buildings, garages, or other enclosed areas.
DANGER: Do not store or move the side burner immediately after use. Allow it to cool before moving or storing to prevent fire, property damage, or injury.
