Quick Tip
After unpacking the caddy and while reading this manual, place the battery on the charger while you assemble the unit. Plug the battery into the charger and the charger into a power source. The battery may be delivered with a charge but should be placed on the charger before using for the first time to ensure a full charge of the battery.
Basic Set-Up
- Remove all components from the carton. Note any damage with the carrier.
- Install the two large drive wheels. The wheels are unidirectional. Make sure that the wheel release button locking mechanism is above the axle. Depress the knob on the inside wheel hub and slide the wheel onto the axle. Fully insert the wheel onto the drive collar, with the four pins fully engaged. (For "free wheel" mode, depress and pull the wheel out approximately 1½ of an inch, releasing the pins and making sure the wheels snap into the groove on the axle.) An image shows the process of attaching the drive wheels, illustrating the wheel hub and the wheel being slid onto the axle with the locking knob depressed.
- Install the rear anti-tip wheel. Under the axle, pull out the anti-tip wheel lock pin and slide the anti-tip wheel into the frame until locked.
- Lift the handle from the lower caddy frame. You may need to lightly hold down the lower frame with your foot.
- Lift the upper handle and extend the handle fully to the desired position. Lock into position with the black locking knob.
- Place the battery in the tray. Insert the battery cable into the caddy, making sure to align the pins. Depress the silver spring lock before removing the cable.
- Load the golf bag onto the caddy. Balance the weight of the golf bag equally side-to-side. Secure the golf bag with the bungees. Securing your golf bag on the cart locks the cart in the "open" position. It is important that both top and bottom bag straps are tight and your bag is firmly secured in the bag rests.
- Insert two AAA batteries into the remote control. Turn on the remote control. The on/off switch is on the backside of the remote control. Notice the antenna on the remote; it is optional to pull out. Pull out if needed for longer range.
- Place the USB cable that comes with your caddy in a secure location. It is only used if you need to "pair" a new remote to your caddy. Your remote is already matched and paired to your caddy.
Precautions
GRI-1500 LI Important Customer Care Information:
- A normal cart bag will result in best caddy performance; lightweight stand or carry bags may not work well. For best performance, heavy cart bags are preferred. If you use a carry bag or stand bag, you will definitely need to add weight (See #5 below).
- Consider the all-around weight distribution of your golf bag. Ensure the bag is balanced evenly side-to-side. Uneven weight distribution may lead to "tracking errors", i.e., too much weight on the right side will cause the caddy to veer to the left.
- The front wheel must stay grounded during play. The only exception is on steep inclines. Your GRI-1500 LI should only tip onto the rear wheel when on extreme inclines (Over 25-degree inclines).
- On steep inclines, if the front wheel does come off the ground, use manual mode to guide the caddy. Avoid steering the caddy with the remote if the front wheel is off the ground, as this can lead to gearbox damage.
- If you are having issues keeping the front wheel down on the ground, consider adding a water bottle of sand inside a low pouch in your golf bag to increase the weight over the front wheel. Equally distribute the weight, using the center pouch or equal weight added to each side pocket.
- Do not pull the cart backwards while riding in a power cart.
- IMPORTANT TIP: Do not use the parking brake button when going down steep inclines. For best control of the caddy, use the reverse arrow to decrease speed. If you need to stop your caddy on an incline, turn the caddy perpendicular (across) the hill and hit the coast button, then the parking brake button.
- Periodically spray the front wheel bearings with WD-40.
- Do keep a set of fresh, unopened AAA batteries in your golf bag for your remote. Replace remote batteries if you experience missed commands.
Battery Maintenance
- Before using your cart for the first time, you will need to charge the 24 Volt caddy battery. Charge until the charger light indicates a full charge.
- Unplug the battery from the caddy when not in use.
- Always recharge the battery after use. Never leave the battery in an uncharged state. Even if you only play 9 holes, charge the battery after use.
- The LED on the charger will be solid orange when charging. Following the complete charging cycle, the LED is solid green.
- During periods of inactivity, charge your battery every 12 weeks. Do not leave the charger connected to the battery for more than 1-2 days. Disconnect the battery once charged.
- Frequently inspect the round battery plug. Ensure that the round plug is screwed tightly. An image displays two XLR connectors: one labeled "Tight XLR PLUG" showing a securely connected plug, and another labeled "Loose XLR PLUG" showing a plug that is not fully inserted.
Turning On Your GRI-1500 Li
Place your battery into the battery tray and plug the battery cable into the caddy. Always press the silver spring lock on the battery cable when inserting and removing the battery cable from the caddy. If the round plug at the end of the cable becomes loose, retighten it.
When you first connect the battery to the caddy, the BLUE LED on the handle will slowly flash. This is "Standby" mode. Push and hold the button on the end of the handle until the BLUE LED is solid.
Manual Mode
- Turn the speed dial back to zero counter-clockwise.
- Push the on/off button on the end of the handle for one second.
- Rotate the speed dial clockwise to increase the speed of the caddy.
- Rotate the speed dial counter-clockwise to slow/stop the caddy's motion.
- In manual mode, there are three ways to stop your caddy:
- Turn the speed dial to the rear counter-clockwise back to zero.
- Push the on/off button on the end of the handle.
- Push the coast button on the remote control.
- To resume use in manual mode, turn the speed dial back to zero, then push the on/off button and turn the speed dial clockwise to the desired speed.
Remote Transmitter
- The transmitter has a small on/off switch on the backside. To save battery life, turn off the remote control transmitter when not in use.
- Pull out the antenna on the remote if needed for longer range.
- If your caddy misses signals, replace batteries. Replace with AAA batteries. Do not use "rechargeable" batteries, as they do not have sufficient voltage to send a strong signal.
Remote Control Mode
- When the BLUE LED on the caddy is solid and the caddy is stationary, your caddy is ready for remote control transmission.
- Turn on the remote.
- Push the forward or reverse buttons to move the caddy.
- By pressing and holding the Left or Right turn, the caddy will turn "upon" itself.
- While the caddy is moving forward, a quick push of the left or right arrow button will adjust the caddy's direction.
- To increase the speed, press the forward button. To decrease speed, press the reverse button.
- To stop the caddy on level ground, use the Coast Button.
- To stop the caddy on an incline, turn the caddy across the hill, hit the coast button, and then hit the parking brake.
- The range of the transmitter is 50 – 100 yards depending on environmental conditions. The caddy cart will shut down when it is outside of the remote transmitter's range. Cart Tek recommends operating your caddy within 20-30 yards for best control.
- For your protection, the caddy has a 60-second timer. To prevent the caddy from stopping, create the habit of re-tapping your last command every 40 to 55 seconds. Any button press will restart the timer and prevent the caddy from stopping. (Generally, just give the forward button a quick tap). If the remote is not pressed within 60 seconds, it will stop. Simply press another button on the remote to restart.
An image displays the remote control for the golf caddy with labels indicating its functions: "Pull Out Antenna", "Left & Right Arrows: Turns caddy to the left or right.", "Parking Brake: The red button in the middle of the directional controls is an electronic parking brake. On inclines, park your caddy across / perpendicular to the hill.", "Speed Settings: Preset buttons for specific speeds. 1 is the slowest, 4 is the highest. See programming to change speed settings.", "Program/Coast Button: This button performs two functions. 1) A single quick push allows the caddy to coast to a stop. No brakes are applied; all power to motors is suspended. This is the preferred way to stop your caddy. 2) When the caddy is stopped, a quick push and hold will move the caddy forward and put it into program mode. See programming options below.", and "Forward: Moves caddy forward and increases speed with each push.", "Reverse: When caddy is stopped, it moves caddy in reverse. Each additional push increases the speed in reverse. When caddy is moving forward, hitting the reverse slows the caddy down."
Programming Your Caddy
The caddy electronics may be customized for your personal preferences. All programming customization is done via the remote transmitter. Using "Program Mode", you can adjust the electronics to:
- Adjust Turning Force. Depending on your course, flatter golf courses require less turning force than hilly or undulated golf courses.
- Tracking issues. If a caddy veers off to one side, read all tracking information under Precautions page 6 and Trouble Shooting page 19 before using electronic tracking adjustment.
- Reset Caddy back to original Factory Settings. This is useful if your caddy accidentally gets programmed or you program it and do not like the new settings.
For the instructions below that say "go into program mode", follow these instructions:
On the remote transmitter, “Press the parking brake button. Next press and quickly release the Coast/Program Button and then quickly press and hold the Coast/Program Button again. While still holding the program button, within a few seconds the caddy will move forward at a slow speed." If the cart does not move, repeat. Your caddy is not in program mode.
1. Store Personal Speeds on 1-4:
- (NO need to go into program mode.)
- Using the forward and reverse arrow keys on the remote, adjust the caddy to your preferred walking pace.
- Press and hold one of the speed control buttons 1-4 while the caddy is traveling at your new desired speed.
- The button is now set to the new speed.
2. Adjust Turning Force:
You can increase or decrease the speed at which the caddy turns.
- Go into Program Mode.
- Press the reverse button to stop the caddy.
- To increase the turning power, press the forward button. To test the adjustment, press the left or right turn buttons.

3. Adjust Tracking (i.e., Caddy trails off to one side or the other on flat ground):
Electronically adjust tracking only after adjusting bag weight. (Instructions for front wheel axle adjustment are in the troubleshooting section, "my caddy does not track in a straight line" later in this manual).
- Go into Program Mode.
- To adjust the caddy to the left, press the left button once. Or to adjust the caddy to the right, press the right button once. Two button presses adjust the tracking about one foot to either side in a 25-foot run.
- To save the setting, push the Parking Brake button.
- Test the caddy to see if you need further adjustment. Repeat as needed.
4. Return All Programming back to Original Factory Settings:
- Go into Program Mode.
- Press the reverse button to stop the caddy.
- Press 1,3,4,2 then the parking brake button. Your caddy should be at factory settings.
5. Matching a "New Remote Transmitter" to your caddy:
Should you need to replace your remote transmitter, you will need to pair (match) it to your GRI-1500 LI. (NO need to go into program mode.)
NOTE: The USB port is located slightly above the handle-locking knob. It provides a less than 2 amp charging port. Some devices may be able to use it.
- With the caddy on (solid BLUE LED), plug the USB cable into the USB port on the handle. Plug the other end of the cable into the port on the remote transmitter.
- The LED on your remote should be slowly flashing.
- Press and hold the On/off button on the caddy. The remote transmitter LED will start rapid flashing.
- After one round of rapid flashing, release the on/off button.
- Disconnect the USB cable and press the "Parking Brake" button on the remote.
- Press the On/Off switch to get a solid BLUE LED on the caddy.
- Test all remote buttons.
Trouble Shooting Guide
My caddy will not show any indicator LED on the caddy handle:
- Ensure the Caddy Battery is plugged into the Caddy receptacle.
- Have a full charge on the Caddy Battery (3-6 hours), and the battery charger should show green.
- If the problem persists, call Cart-Tek for Technical Support.
My caddy will not show a solid BLUE indicator LED on the caddy handle:
- Make sure you can get a flashing BLUE indicator LED first.
- Press and hold the On/off button for 3 seconds.
- If the problem persists, call Cart Tek for Technical Support.
My caddy is turned on (solid BLUE LED), but my remote will not work:
- Make sure the on/off switch is in the on position on the remote control transmitter.
- Try restarting the caddy by disconnecting the battery for 5 seconds, then powering the caddy back on. Test the remote again.
- Ensure that the remote has a flashing red LED when pressing a function button. If not, replace batteries in the remote.
- Pair the remote transmitter to the caddy cart receiver by using the supplied USB cord. Follow the directions in the manual, or check Cart Tek's video.
- If the problem persists, call Cart Tek for Technical Support.
My caddy Battery Charger isn't switching over from Orange to Green:
- Verify the Charger has a green ready light before plugging in the battery. If it does not, call Cart Tek.
- Ensure both the Caddy Battery and wall charger are fully plugged in.
- If problems persist, call Cart Tek for Technical Support.
My caddy will not make 18 holes:
- Verify that your charger is switching over to green.
- If the problem persists, call Cart Tek for Technical Support.
My caddy has erratic steering (i.e., Spins to the right/left, goes forward/backwards when pressing right/left):
- Ensure both wheels are fully engaged into the drive collars located on the axles.
- If the problem persists, call Cart Tek for Technical Support or replacement parts.
My caddy does not track in a straight line:
- Balance the golf bag evenly on your caddy side to side.
- Ensure both wheels are fully engaged into the drive collars located on the axles.
- Reset your caddy to factory settings by following the instructions in the manual or check out Cart Tek's video to reprogram your GRI-1500 LI remote.
- If the caddy still does not go in a straight line, manually adjust tracking on the front wheel. All caddy carts are tested to see how they track for straightness without a bag. First, double-check how your caddy tracks without a bag. Use this as a guide for testing with the bag. If your caddy is going off track more than 3 feet within 20 yards, the easiest first thing to do is to check the weight distribution of your bag. How is it sitting on the caddy; is it sitting evenly with the weight evenly distributed between left and right sides? If the weight distribution does not solve your issue, you may need to fine-tune the tracking by adjusting the front wheel axle. To fine-tune the front wheel axle, move the front wheel axle forward on the side the caddy is tracking towards. Loosen both ends of the axle cap nuts (A). If the cart tracks to the left, move the left side of the axle forward via the adjustment nuts (B). Test the tracking after each adjustment. It should only take 1 to 3 adjustments. An image shows a close-up of the front wheel axle assembly with point "A" indicating the axle cap nuts and point "B" indicating the adjustment nuts used for fine-tuning the wheel's alignment.
My caddy stops unexpectedly during a round:
- The GRI-1500 LI is equipped with a 60-second timer that stops the caddy if you do not press additional buttons within that time period.
- Check indicator LED's on the end of the caddy handle.
- No light: Make sure your battery is connected to the caddy receptacle.
- Rapid flashing BLUE LED: This is an overload high current warning. Stop and allow the caddy to cool down. This can be caused by too much weight on your caddy or trying to climb too steep a hill.
- Slow Flashing BLUE LED: This is a low voltage warning. Stop, do not use the battery, and recharge the battery.
- Ensure the AAA batteries in the transmitter are fresh.
- Due to on-board electronics, there might be environmental interferences causing your caddy to stop. These may include, but are not limited to: microwaves, cell towers, high voltage electrical power lines, et cetera. If the caddy always stops at the same place every time you play, then it is likely environmental interference.
My caddy stopped while I am on the golf course:
If your caddy experiences some kind of failure on the course and you cannot get it running, you can put the caddy in "free wheel" mode.
- Press the blade on the inside wheel hub and pull the wheels out of the drive collar and lock the wheels into the groove on the axle. Ensure that the wheel is locked onto the axle.
- In free wheel mode, you can pull the caddy backwards. USE CAUTION: Wheels can disengage on sharp turns or at excessive speed when going backwards.
