Important Safety Information
Overheat Protector: The overheat protector may trip at temperatures below -5°C / 23°F. Before installation, warm the device to approximately 18°C / 64°F. The protector must be reset before use. Refer to the user manual for resetting instructions.
Electrical Safety: Installation and wiring must be performed by a licensed electrician adhering to local codes. Use proper AWG rated copper wire suitable for 194°F (90°C). Ensure all equipment is properly grounded.
Room Safety: Receptacles or plugs are not allowed in a sauna room. Install room lighting as a vapor-proof, wall-mounted type, not directly over the heater or upper benches. Speakers should be mounted away from the heater and not higher than 3' (900 mm) from the floor.
General Warnings: Do not smoke, use alcohol, or exercise in the sauna. Limit sauna use to 30 minutes at a time. Consult a physician before use if you have health concerns. Do not place combustible materials over the heater. Use only clean tap water on stones; avoid pool or spa water due to chemical reactions.
Troubleshooting
Heater Not Working
- Check if the breaker is on and correctly sized.
- Verify the circuit breaker in the contactor is not shorted.
- Ensure the thermostat and timer are in the 'on' position.
- Check if the timer is winding down; a shorted timer will prevent operation.
Heater Stops Operating After Use
- Check the breaker.
- Verify the timer is winding down.
- Locate and reset the high-limit button (location varies by model: bottom front for wall models, back of junction box for floor models).
- Contact an electrician or service person if issues persist.
Sauna Room Not Reaching Temperature
- Allow at least 30 minutes for heat-up.
- Ensure the sauna thermometer is correctly placed (6" from ceiling, near or above the heater).
- Verify proper wire size, amperage, and wiring connections.
- Check stone placement for adequate air circulation; tightly packed stones reduce heating capacity.
- Inspect for heat loss around doors, ceiling lights, or fans.
- Ensure the room is properly insulated and the ceiling height does not exceed 7' (2100 mm).
- After checking all points, remove rocks and inspect heating elements for damage.
Installation Guidelines
Clearances: Observe minimum clearances from adjacent surfaces as specified in Table 1 and Figures 2-4. Ensure proper spacing from benches.
Wiring: Use copper wire rated for 194°F (90°C) within sauna walls. Run wire through flexible conduit. Connect according to the provided wiring diagrams (Figures 5, 5a, 6).
Signage: Place the 'CAUTION' sign inside the sauna room above the heater and the 'WARNING' sign outside on the door.
Stones: Wash and loosely place igneous stones in the heater, ensuring they cover the heating elements without being forced between them. Do not operate the heater without stones.
Operation
Controls: Set the heat control (thermostat) to the desired temperature. Use the timer for desired operating duration. The timer has a 60-minute cycle and an 8-hour pre-set function.
First Use: Operate the heater for 1 hour before first use to burn off protective element coating and eliminate smoke.
Water on Stones: Pour only one or two dippers of clean water onto the hot stones at a time. Allow the sauna to heat for at least 30 minutes before adding water.
Maintenance Instructions
- Use only clean water on sauna stones.
- Clean benches with a soft brush and mild soap or disinfectant.
- Wash waterproof floors with disinfectant.
- Wipe the sauna heater with a damp cloth to remove water stains.
- After 5 years, rocks may need replacement if crumbled.
- Ensure proper ventilation with adjustable vents (lower vent open, upper vent may be closed during heating).
- Post required warning signs.
- The owner must ensure the sauna heater is turned off after each use.
Warranty
Harvia warrants the sauna heater and all its parts for one year from the date of purchase against defects in manufacturing and material. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, improper installation, poor maintenance, or failure to follow instructions. Alterations to the product void the warranty. Installation and wiring must be performed by a certified electrician. The warranty is void if the product is misused, such as pouring pool/spa water on stones or installing a shower in the sauna room.
