When installed, the appliance complies with the applicable safety regulations and with the corresponding direc- tives. 1.5 Energy saving - Always ensure good ventilation. Keep clear of obstruction all ventilation openings in the appliance enclosure or in the structure for building-in. - Never block air slits in the fan. - Do not install the appliance in direct sunlight or next to a stove, heater or similar heat source. - Energy consumption depends on installation condi- tions such as the ambient temperature (see 1.3 Range of appliance use) . A warmer ambient temperature can increase the energy consumption. - Avoid opening the appliance door for any longer then necessary - The lower the temperature is set the higher the energy consumption. - Sort your food items: home.liebherr.com/food. - All food stored in the appliance should be well wrapped and covered. If you pass the appliance on, please hand these operating instructions to the new owner. Read and follow these instructions. They contain safety information which is important for safe and problem-free installation and operation. Always read and follow the safety information. Dangers for the user: - This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruc- tion concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by children unless they are supervised. Chil- dren between the ages of 3 and 8 may load and unload the appliance. Children under the age of 3 must be kept away from the appliance unless they are constantly super- vised. - IMPORTANT: The power plug must be easily accessible so that the appliance can be disconnected from the mains quickly in an emergency. Fire. If a power cable/plug comes into contact with the back of the appliance, the power cable/plug can be damaged by appliance vibrations and this may result in a short circuit. u Install the appliance so that it does not touch any plugs or power cables. u Do not connect any appliances to sockets in the area of the back of the appliance. u Multi-sockets/power distributors and other elec- tronic appliances (such as halogen transformers) may not be placed and operated at the back of appli- ances. WARNING Risk of fire due to moisture! If live parts or the power cord get wet, this can cause a short circuit. u The appliance is designed for use in enclosed spaces. Escaping refrigerant and oil can ignite if they are of high enough concentration and are exposed to an external heat source. u Do not damage the pipelines of the coolant circuit and the compressor. 4.1 Transporting the appliance u Transport the appliance in its packaging u Transport the appliance upright u Do not move the appliance on your own WARNING Danger of fire and damage! u Do not place devices that give off heat, e.g. micro- waves, toasters, etc. on the appliance. NOTICE Risk of damage caused by condensation Installing the appliance next to any other refrigerator or freezer can cause condensation or damage to the Liebherr appliance. u Do not install this appliance next to any other refrig- erator or freezer except another Liebherr model. Liebherr models are designed to allow side-by-side installation. They are equipped with a heating system to eliminate condensation when refrigerators or freezers are installed side-by-side. 6 * Depending on model and options Start-up NOTICE Risk of damage for the finished floor surface! u Protect the finished floor surface before you uncrate the unit. WARNING Danger of damage from overheating. May restrict oper- ation. u Keep ventilation openings, in the appliance enclo- sure or in the built-in structure, clear of obstruction. u Remove all materials that could prevent it from being installed properly or prevent proper ventilation from the back or the side panels of the appliance. After installation: u Remove protective films, adhesive tapes and trans- port safety devices, etc. Note u Clean the appliance (see operating instructions, "Cleaning the appliance" section). 4.3 Installation WARNING Unstable appliance! Risk of injury and damage. The appliance can tip over. u Secure the appliance according to the operating instructions. All fasteners are supplied with the appliance. q If possible, have a professional install the appliance in your kitchen cabinet unit. q If the appliance is damaged check with the supplier immediately before connecting it. q The floor of the installation site must be horizontal and level. q Do not install the appliance in direct sunlight or next to an oven, heater or similar heat source. q Do not install the appliance on your own. It is better to do this with two or more people. q The more refrigerant is in the appliance, the larger the room must be where the device is located. In the case of a leak, a flammable gas-air mixture may be created in a room that is too small. For every 8 g (35.5 ft3) of refrigerant, the installation space must be at least 1 m3 (1.31 yd3). Specifications regarding the refrigerant contained within the appli- ance can be found on the rating plate inside the appliance. q If the appliance is installed in a very damp environ- ment condensate water may form on the outside of the appliance. Always ensure good ventilation. q The load-bearing capacity of the floor must be suffi- cient for the weight of the appliance plus about 544 kg (1,199 lb) of food weight. q The electrical socket must assessed precisely to ensure the correct position and fuse. q Do not restrict ventilation. Sufficient ventilation is required for the appliance to operate correctly. The ventilation grid fitted at the factory guarantees an effective ventilation gap on the appliance of 200 cm2 (31 in2). If you replace the ventilation grid with a fascia, this must have at least the same size or larger ventilation gap as the manufacturer's venti- lation grid. u Note down the type (model, number), appliance name, appliance or serial number, date of purchase and manufacturer's address in the place provided for this in the Use & Care Manual. Make sure the electrical sockets can be accessed. Check the installation dimensions Ventilation requirements 8 Fig. 5 There must be a ventilation gap of at least 200 cm². The foam element is used to separate the incoming and outgoing air currents and permits sufficient venti- lation. Top fastening q When the adjusting feet are screwed out completely, the appliance sits slightly tensioned below the worktop. q No granite top. 4.3.1 Assembling the appliance Fig. 9 With a 600 mm (1.97 ft) wide recess: Do not use strips. With a 610 mm (2 ft) wide recess: Place the strips on the side. - The appliance is to the right of the adjacent cabinet: Fit the strip to the left. - The appliance is to the left of the adjacent cabinet: Fit the strip to the right. u Place the strip under the top edge and stick it to the side panel. The strip must not be shortened. Top fastening Fig. 7 u If the appliance plinth trim is already installed, remove it from the front. u Remove the mains cable from the back of the appliance. Also remove the cable holder, other- wise there will be vibration noise! u Position the mains cable using a piece of string so that the appliance can easily be connected to the elec- tricity supply after it has been built-in Fig. 8 NOTICE Risk of damage to delicate floors! u Place a strip of cardboard under the height-adjust- able feet, approx. 4 in.x24 in.10 cm x 60 cm, one at either side. Cut the strips out of the packaging. If the recess heights are smaller than 826 mm cut the strips out of a firm but thin material. u After the appliance has been slid in, remove the strips. Fig. 10 u Insert the bracket in the opening in the top of the appliance and turn it forward. u Push the appliance into the recess and align it, see Aligning the appliance. Side fastening: * Depending on model and options 9 Start-up u Unscrew the rear adjusting feet with a screwdriver and the front adjusting feet with an Allen key 8 (for screwed in adjusting feet) or screwdriver (with unscrewed adjusting feet) in an alternating manner as far as possible. The maximum adjustment distance is 60 mm (2.36 in). w The appliance is aligned vertically w The appliance is blocked slightly in the recess between the floor and the worktop. Fig. 11 u Turn both brackets prior to assembly on one end. Insert the straight side in the opening in the top of the appliance and turn it forward. u Push the appliance into the recess and align it, see Aligning the appliance. Aligning the appliance Fig. 13 u Insert the foam element in the appliance plinth trim - functionally important for separate air currents! Fig. 12 u Unscrew the rear adjusting feet with a screwdriver and the front adjusting feet with an Allen key 8 in an alternating manner until they are below the worktop. u Align the appliance vertically, using a spirit level. w The distance between the front edge of the unit side wall and the appliance itself is 41.5 mm (1.63 in) on both sides. w If there is no cabinet side panel, align it with the work top. In units with door stop components (knobs, sealing lips, etc.) u Subtract the additional distance (for depth of the door stop components) from the 41.5 mm (1.63 in) insertion depth. Fig. 14 u Push the supplied stainless steel cover trim together and place it on the white appliance plinth trim. 10 * Depending on model and options Start-up u To position and fix the appliance plinth trim: Keep a steady grip on the appliance plinth trim and insert the latch. u Fix the unit plinth trim. To secure the appliance in the recess Fig. 15 u With the supplied plugs, fasten the cover trim on the right and left on the appliance plinth trim. Fig. 18 u To fasten the appliance below the worktop, fasten the mounting brackets with two screws each below the worktop. Fig. 16 u Position the appliance plinth trim (2) but do not fix it yet. u Position the unit door and unit plinth trim for testing u If the plinth trim (2) is visible, pull it forward as far as possible so that the front edge of the ventilation grid and the unit plinth trim lie flush. -oru If the plinth trim (2) is covered, push it fully back. u Make sure the ventilation slots are completely unob- structed: If necessary, crop the height of the unit plinth trim (U)! w Adjust the height of the rack (V) below the appliance plinth trim (2) along the width of the recess (W). Fig. 19 u For side fastening, fasten the mounting bracket with a screw on the right and on the left in the recess. 4.3.2 Installing the unit door u Installing the handle on the unit door Note To guarantee that the pull-out compartment will pullout evenly: u Always install the unit handle in the middle of the unit door. Fig. 17 * Depending on model and options 11 Start-up u Right strip: Move the crosspiece Fig. 22 (11) 6 mm (0.24 in) to the right. For chipboard doors u Secure the crosspiece Fig. 21 (11) with at least 6 screws Fig. 21 (19). For frame and panel doors u Secure the crosspiece Fig. 21 (11) with 4 screws Fig. 21 (19) at the edge. u Lift up fitting aids Fig. 21 (12), turn round and insert into the adjacent openings. Fig. 20 u Check the 8 mm (0.31 in) presetting. (Distance between appliance door and lower edge of cross- piece) u Raise the fitting aids Fig. 20 (12) to unit door height. Bottom stop edge of the fitting aid = top edge of the unit door to be fitted. u Unscrew the crosspiece Fig. 20 (11) by undoing the locknuts Fig. 20 (10). Fig. 21 u Hang the crosspiece Fig. 21 (11) on the inside of the unit door using the fitting aids Fig. 21 (12). With a 600 mm (1.97 ft) wide recess: u Align the crosspiece Fig. 21 (11) to the middle of the door. Fig. 23 u Attach the unit door on the adjusting bolts Fig. 23 (13) and loosely screw locknuts Fig. 23 (10) onto the adjusting bolts. u Close the door. u Check the gap between the door and the surrounding unit doors u To laterally align the unit door Move the unit door in the X direction. u To align the unit door in the Y direction (height) and in lateral inclination: Adjust the adjusting bolts Fig. 23 (13) with a screwdriver. w The unit door is flush and in alignment with the surrounding unit fronts u Tighten the locknuts Fig. 23 (10). Fig. 22 With a 610 mm (2 ft) wide recess: u Align the crosspiece Fig. 22 (11) to the middle of the door. u Left strip: Move the crosspiece Fig. 22 (11) 6 mm (0.24 in) to the left. -or- Fig. 24 u Screwing the unit door to the appliance door. u Drill pilot holes in the door of the unit (you could make a preliminary hole with a bradawl) u Screw the appliance door to the unit door with screws through the mounting brackets. 12 * Depending on model and options Start-up 4.4 Adjust the fit of the door seal It may be necessary to adjust the appliance door depending on the weight of the unit door. After assembling the unit door, check that the door seal is fully fit up against the appliance body. Fig. 25 u Align the unit door in depth Z : loosen the upper and lower screws on the door, then move the door. u Do not allow the knobs and sealing lips to contact the door - important for function u Set an air gap of 2 mm (0.08 in) between the unit door and the body of the unit. Fig. 26 u Check the fit of the door and re-adjust, if necessary u Tighten all screws u Tighten the locknuts Fig. 26 (10) with a hex wrench 13, while counter-holding the adjusting bolts Fig. 26 (13) with a screwdriver. Fig. 28 The adjustment settings are located to the right and left below the bottle shelf on the inner door. The appliance is delivered with the adjustment setting in the 0 position. The following settings are possible: q Inclination ± 1° q Upward adjustment of 4 mm q Downward adjustment of 2 mm q 2 mm adjustment to the left or right NOTICE Functional impairments and risk of damage! u Only use the appliance door adjustment to ensure that the door seal of the pull-out compartment lies 100% up against the appliance body and not to adjust the unit door. If necessary, place a luminous flashlight inside to check the tight closure of the door. Fig. 27 u Position the upper cover and snap it into place. Check the following points to make sure the appliance is installed correctly Otherwise, icing up, the formation of condensate, and malfunctions can occur w The door must close properly w The unit door must not touch the body of the unit * Depending on model and options 13 Start-up 4.4.1 Adjusting the inclination of the door w Dispose of the screws Fig. 30 (33) as they will no longer be needed. u Only loosen the screws Fig. 30 (34) with 1 to 2 turns. u Turn the adjusting screw Fig. 30 (35). In a clockwise direction: the top of the door tilts away from the appliance body. The thawing cycle only operates at the specified time without taking refrigerator use into account. After a power outage, the appliance automatically switches back to SabbathMode. You can find a list of Star-K-certified appliances at www.star-k.org/appliances . WARNING Danger of food poisoning! If there is a power outage when SabbathMode is on, this message is not saved. When the power is restored, the appliance continues in SabbathMode. Afterwards, the temperature display does not show a message about the power outage. The acoustic warning remains switched off as long as the door is open. The warmest areas are located in the top front section and in the door. w The value is displayed flashing during the setting operation. w The actual temperature is displayed about 5 seconds after the last press of a button. The temperature slowly adjusts to the new value. Note u Load the pull-out tray with maximum 20 kg (44.09 lb) of food. WARNING Danger of fire u Do not use electrical appliances inside the food storage compartments of the appliance, unless they are of the type recommended by the manufacturer. Note Insufficient ventilation results in an increase in energy consumption and reduction of the refrigerating performance. u Never block the air slits in the fan. u Store perishable food such as ready-meals, meat and sausage products and in the coldest zone, in the center. Place butter and preserves in the upper area. (see 1 The appliance at a glance) u Use recyclable plastic, metal, aluminum and glass containers and cling film to wrap foods u Always store raw meat or fish in clean, closed containers on the lowest shelf in the cooling area so that other food cannot come into contact with it or drip on it. u Always use closed containers for liquids and for food that may give off or be tainted by odor or flavor transfer or cover them u Do not store food too close together to enable good air circulation 5.6 Setting the temperature The temperature depends on the following factors: - the number of times the door is opened - The duration the door is opened - the room temperature of the installation location - the type, temperature and amount of food. The temperature is continuously adjustable across a range of 2 °C (36 °F) to 9 °C (49 °F), and the advisable range is 4 °C (39 °F). u To set a higher temperature: press the Up button Fig. 2 (3). u To set a lower temperature: press the Down button Fig. 2 (4). w When pressed once the previously set temperature display value will flash. u To change the temperature in 1 °C (1 °F) increments: briefly press the button. u To change the temperature continuously: hold the button down. 5.7 SuperCool SuperCool is for maximum cooling. This option is for very low temperatures: - In the fridge compartment Use SuperCool to quickly cool large amounts of food. If SuperCool is on, the fan* may come on. The appli- ance works at maximum refrigerating power. The sound of the refrigeration unit may be temporarily louder as a result. SuperCool will use more energy than normal operation. 5.7.1 Activating SuperCool u Briefly press the SuperCool button Fig. 2 (2). w The SuperCool symbol Fig. 2 (12) lights up in the display. w The cooling temperature drops to the coldest value. w SuperCool is on. w SuperCool switches off automatically. Injuries and damage. u Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process, other than those recommended by the manufacturer. u Do not use any electrical heating or steam cleaning equipment, naked flames or defrosting sprays. u Do not remove ice with sharp objects. Fig. 33 u The partition can be used to divide the pull-out tray. Insert the partition on the guide racks or simply pull them out from the top. The fridge compartment defrosts automatically. The defrosted water will evaporate. Water drops or a thin layer of frost or ice can form on the back wall; this is a completely normal part of the machine's function. u Clean the drain opening regularly so that the condensation water can drain away. (see 6.2 Cleaning the appliance) 6.2 Cleaning the appliance Clean the appliance regularly. WARNING Danger of electric shock. u Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power. 18 * Depending on model and options Maintenance WARNING Danger of fire u Do not damage the refrigerant circuit. WARNING Risk of injury or damage due to hot steam. Hot steam can cause scalding/burns and damage to surfaces. u Do not use steam cleaners. NOTICE Incorrect cleaning damages the appliance. u Do not use concentrated cleaning agents. u Do not use steel wool or sponges that scour or scratch. u Do not use caustic or abrasive cleaning materials or those containing sand, chloride, or acids. u Do not use chemical solvents. u Do not damage or remove the rating plate on the inside of the appliance. It is vital for the customer service department. u Do not pull off, kink or damage any cables or other components. u Do not let cleaning water get into the drain gutter, the ventilation grille and electrical parts. u Use soft cleaning cloths and a multi-purpose cleaning agent with a neutral pH value. u Only use food-compatible cleaning and care agents inside the appliance. Fig. 35 u To remove the rack: lift up at the back as in the picture and pull out forwards. Note u If the storage compartment can no longer be pulled out as far as it could initially, pull the telescopic rails out fully once. The ball bearing cage on the tele- scopic rails will then re-align and it will be possible to pull the compartment out fully again. u Clean the telescopic rails with a damp cloth only. The grease in the tracks is for lubrication purposes and should not be removed. u Empty the appliance. u Disconnect the power plug. u Clean the plastic surfaces, outside and inside, by hand using lukewarm water and a little dish washing liquid. u To clean the drain opening: Remove deposits with a thin instrument, e.g. a cotton bud. u To dismantle the rack:lift the supporting bars upward, pull out the retainers. The front and rear supporting bars, as well as the glass base are free. u Most of the equipment parts can be dismantled for cleaning: see the respective chapter. * Depending on model and options Fig. 36 u To insert the rack: Push the telescopic rails in. u Put the storage compartment on the telescopic rails and push backwards until it clicks into place. After cleaning: u Wipe the appliance and accessories dry. 19 Troubleshooting. u Connect the appliance and switch it on again. When the temperature is sufficiently cold: u put the food back in the appliance. 6.3 Customer service First check whether you can remedy the fault yourself. (see 7 Troubleshooting.) . If this is not the case, please contact Customer Service. w This will help us to provide you with a faster and more accurate service. u Keep the appliance closed until the Customer Service engineer arrives. w The food will stay cool longer. u Disconnect the power plug (do not pull on the power cord to do this) or switch off the fuse. 6.4 Appliance Information WARNING Unprofessional repair!
