Product Description
RAMPART Stronghold is a versatile wall liner designed to create a smooth substrate for various wall surfaces, including ceramic tiles, concrete blocks, laminates, plywood, MDF board, rigid panels, and drywall. It effectively hides imperfections like cracks, joints, and pores, making it suitable for new construction, repair, and remodeling projects. The liner is composed of natural jute or polyester fabric encapsulated with gypsum cement, forming a hard plaster veneer when water-based adhesive is applied. This installation process is dustless, non-toxic, and virtually odorless, minimizing disruption.
Before You Begin Installation
Ensure the material is satisfactory and the quantity is correct. Contact Wolf-Gordon customer service at 800-347-0550 for any discrepancies. Store and transport RAMPART Stronghold between 50°-90°F. The wall surface temperature should be a minimum of 50°F for at least 12 hours before and 24 hours after installation. Verify wall moisture content does not exceed 4% and that there is no active moisture infiltration, condensation, or accumulation. Address any mold, mildew, or moisture damage before proceeding with installation.
Hanging Guidelines
RAMPART Stronghold should be overlapped and double-cut during installation. Allow for a 2" overlap at the floor and ceiling. For irregular surfaces, apply a uniform coat of Roman PRO-555 Extreme Tack Adhesive using a 3/8" nap roller. For RSL 609, apply adhesive to the rough side; for RSL 602, either side can be used. A commercial pasting machine may also be utilized. Apply adhesive equivalent to one coat of paint, fold each sheet, and allow 5–10 minutes for booking time.
Applying Over Smooth, Non-Porous Surfaces
For surfaces like glass, glazed block, metal, marble, and travertine, prime with Roman PRO-935 (R-35®) Clear Adhesion Promoting Wallpaper Primer. Ensure the surface is clean and free of grease, dirt, and sealants. For metal surfaces, use a rust-inhibiting primer before applying R-35. Allow the surface to dry for a minimum of 4 hours, preferably overnight. Follow standard hanging and installation procedures thereafter.
Installation
After booking, unfold the liner and position it on the wall, overlapping the ceiling and floor. Use a short-bristle brush or plastic smoother to press the panel from the center outwards, removing trapped air and ensuring a smooth finish. Trim excess material at the ceiling and baseboard using a utility knife and straightedge. As the adhesive dries, the liner will tighten, and the gypsum cement will harden. Overlap and smooth subsequent panels, flattening seams with a seam roller. Butt seam at inside and outside corners for best results, or wrap corners with at least 6" on the return. After installation, allow RAMPART Stronghold to dry for 12-24 hours. A light coat of Durabond® may be required in recessed areas for a flush finish. Lightly sanding seams is recommended. For a highly smooth surface, skim coating is an option. Monitor walls for potential moisture or vapor infiltration after installation.
