General Notes on Installation and Use
This guide is for the installation of the motor used in Isodrive systems after the canopy/rangehood or bathroom extraction grill has been mounted. All PVC pipe and SteelFlex™ ducting measurements refer to inside measurements unless otherwise stated. The fan unit is designed for installation using a 150mm (ISD) PVC pipe as the initial connection duct, supplied with a 150mm (ISD) PVC pipe to 200mm SteelFlex™ duct bell-mouth adaptor. This fan is suitable for ducting runs with a minimum inlet area of 22,000mm² and a length up to 8 metres maximum. SteelFlex™ ducting must be extended sufficiently to provide a smooth air passage with bends having a radius at least twice the duct diameter. Excessive bends will compromise extraction.
WARNING: The rangehood must not be ducted into a wall cavity or ceiling space where grease can accumulate, posing a fire risk. This will void your warranty.
NOTE: Fan module and SteelFlex™ duct are acoustically matched. Using semi-rigid or rigid ducting will increase noise and may void the warranty. Refer to installation notes on 'Why Schweigen SteelFlex™ Safety Duct'.
Recommended Installation Distance
For the Isodrive 900 motor, a recommended 4 metres of SteelFlex™ ducting with at least two bends is advised. Installing closer may result in higher noise levels. The maximum duct length is 8 metres. Check with your supplier if a longer duct length is required. Do not reduce the duct size at any time and avoid sharp bends.
Minimum Mounting Height
This fan unit is intended for mounting at a minimum height of 2.1 metres (measured to the lower part of the fan impeller) above the floor.
Avoidance of Back Flow
Care should be taken to avoid the backflow of gases into the room from open flues of gas or other open fire appliances.
Safety of Children
This fan is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision.
Replacement of Supply Cord
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a service agent or suitably qualified person to avoid a hazard.
Why Schweigen SteelFlex™ Safety Duct
Schweigen SteelFlex™ is an ultra-strong, flexible, high-performance safety ducting made of Shirikon Firemesh®, a tri-layer tear-resistant UV-treated sleeve. Developed by Schweigen, the Silent Rangehood specialists, it facilitates quiet and efficient high-volume transfers of temperature-sensitive air. Engineered for health and safety, SteelFlex™ is antimicrobial treated, thermally insulated, and acoustically dampened. It is fireproof, pest-proof, and crush-proof, with a treated surface that prevents grease and bacteria build-up. Schweigen's unique Isodrive system pulls air through the hood and acoustically matched ducting, producing near-silent high-volume flow. Using rigid or semi-rigid ducting can create an 'organ piping' effect, amplifying noise. The Isodrive system directs noise outside the house.
WARNING: Installation without the minimum recommended length of acoustically matched SteelFlex™ will void performance expectations. Report any installation problems to Schweigen; call-outs for incorrect installation will incur a service fee. Schweigen is not responsible for problems caused by faulty installation, which may void warranty. An experienced installer list is available on the Schweigen website (www.schweigen.com.au) or by calling 1300 881 693.

Installation
Roof Installation
Recommended duct length: 900 motor – minimum 4 metres.
Mount the 150mm (ISD) rigid PVC pipe securely to beams, trusses, or other appropriate structures. The pipe should be mounted vertically, with the roof penetration sealed using a Dektite or similar device. Ensure the PVC pipe protrudes a minimum of 50mm past the top of the Dektite, and that the fan assembly clears the roof cladding at the upper edge. Pass the power cord and plug through the mounting flange and pipe, then out the slotted PVC pipe for connection to the socket from the canopy/rangehood. Do not insert the plug into the socket outlet or switch on until installation is complete. Fit the fan module to the pipe and secure it using the side locking screw. Certain external installation configurations may cause audible noise from the expelled air. To minimize external noise, use between 4 to 8 metres of SteelFlex™ duct to position the Isodrive motor appropriately. The 900 motor is capable of expelling air at 900m³/hr. For environmental noise limits, contact your local Council. An experienced installer list is available on the Schweigen website. Do not install the SteelFlex™ in a straight line; a minimum of two gentle bends in the ducts is required.
Diagram Description (Page 9 - Figure 1: Roof mount option): This diagram illustrates the roof installation of the Isodrive 900 motor. It shows the motor unit connected via a 150mm PVC pipe and a bell-mouth adapter to 200mm SteelFlex™ ducting. The pipe passes through a Dektite seal on the roof, with a 50mm protrusion above it. The diagram labels the motor, optional backdraft shutter, power cord, PVC pipe, Dektite, and connections. Notes advise preventing cord bunching and specify a minimum ducting length of 4 metres.
Wall Installation
This installation type is similar to roof mounting. Ensure the pipe extends at least 50mm past the wall surface. If the pipe length is shortened, reproduce the power cord exit slot on the inside of the wall. NOTE: Decreasing the length of the SteelFlex™ duct will increase airflow and noise levels, potentially causing audible air movement.

The bottom diagram shows the fan module being fixed with a side locking screw. Notes cover cord routing and preventing bunching.
Flat Roof Installation
Flat roof mounting uses an optional mounting flange. Ensure locking screws are engaged. Seal holes in the stepped surface and between the mounting flange and cover. Up-stand and capping are used. The power supply cord passes through pipe slots. The PVC pipe is cut to length and the ducting end reslotted, ensuring fan end locking holes remain.

SteelFlex™ Safety Duct
SteelFlex™ Safety Ducting
SteelFlex™ safety ducting must be fully extended and cut to the required length during installation. Maximum fan performance is achieved only when the ducting is fully extended. Failure to fully extend the ducting results in a smaller air passage and lower airflows. Incorrect installation can reduce airflow or increase noise levels. Call-outs for incorrect installation will incur a service fee. Schweigen is not responsible for problems caused by faulty installation. An experienced installer list is available on the Schweigen website (www.schweigen.com.au).
NOTE: In shallow roof spaces, extend SteelFlex™ ducting horizontally. Keep the SteelFlex™ ducting taut, approximately 4 metres in length, with two gentle bends.
Diagram Description (Page 16 - Figure 8: SteelFlex™ Safety Ducting): This diagram illustrates the SteelFlex™ ducting installation with the 900 motor. It shows the flexible ducting run, emphasizing the need to keep it taut and use gentle bends. A note suggests horizontal extension in shallow roof spaces.
Assembling SteelFlex™ Safety Duct
SteelFlex™ safety duct must be secured to either the bell-mouth adapter ring or a 200mm mounting pipe.
Parts required:
- SteelFlex™ safety ducting
- Steel ring clamp
- Bell-mouth adapter ring (200mm duct to 150mm riser)
- 150mm PVC riser pipe
- 20mm self-drilling button head screws
Assembly steps:
- Slide the steel ring clamp over the end of the duct, then insert the bell-mouth adapter ring into the duct end.
- Secure the duct to the bell-mouth adapter at regular intervals with 4 x 20mm button head screws.
- Slide the steel ring clamp back up and tighten to secure the bell-mouth adapter and the duct.
- Attach the mounting pipe to the bell-mouth adapter and secure with 1 x 20mm button head screw.
NOTE: Do not use duct tape to fasten the duct; the screws and hose clamp are adequate.
Diagram Description (Page 17 - Figure 9: Duct assembling): This series of diagrams shows the steps for assembling the SteelFlex™ ducting. It illustrates sliding a steel ring clamp, inserting the bell-mouth adapter, securing with screws, and attaching the mounting pipe.
Shallow Roof Space
In shallow roof spaces, do not crush or kink SteelFlex™ ducting, as this will severely reduce airflow. A 90-degree curve made of PVC or galvanise can be used as a substitute for the bend.
Diagram Description (Page 18 - Figure 10: Shallow roof space): Compares correct and incorrect ducting in shallow roof spaces. The correct method shows a 90-degree PVC or galvanise curve, while the incorrect shows a crushed or kinked SteelFlex™ duct.
Important Note
Please do not crush or kink SteelFlex™ ducting, as it will reduce airflow and may cause noise. Ducting needs to be kept taut at all times.
Diagram Description (Page 18 - Figure 11: SteelFlex™ duct recommended installation): Shows correct (taut, smooth curve) and incorrect (kinked, crushed) installation of SteelFlex™ ducting.
Securing SteelFlex™ Safety Duct
SteelFlex™ safety duct must be installed with supports at maximum intervals of 1.5 metres. Supports can be good quality gaffer or aluminium foil tape, provided they do not restrict the internal diameter of the ducting. Ducting installed looped over hanging beams should have gradual changes in direction. Support using hangers may be required.
NOTE: Ducting should be kept taut at all times.
Diagram Description (Page 19 - Figure 12: Securing SteelFlex™ Safety Duct): Illustrates two support options: Option 1 shows securing the duct to a beam with aluminium foil tape. Option 2 shows supporting the duct with hangers, with a note to minimize sagging.
