Quick Installation Guide
This guide provides essential steps for the installation of your Honeywell RTH1100 Non-Programmable Thermostat. Ensure a smooth setup process by following these instructions carefully.
System Compatibility
The RTH1100 thermostat is compatible with various heating and cooling systems, including:
- Gas, oil, or electric furnaces
- Central air conditioners
- Hot water systems (with or without a pump)
- Millivolt systems
- Central heating and cooling systems
- Gas fireplaces
Important Note: This thermostat operates on 24-volt or 750-mV systems. It is not compatible with heat pump systems, multistage systems, or 120/240-volt systems.
Installation Steps
- Turn Off Power: Before beginning, ensure power to your heating and cooling system is turned off at the breaker or switch.
- Remove Old Thermostat: Carefully remove your old thermostat, leaving the wallplate and wires attached. Note the mercury notice regarding proper disposal of older thermostats containing mercury.
- Identify Wires: Label each wire according to its terminal designation on the old thermostat. If wires are not connected or are attached to terminals marked 'C' or 'C1', wrap the bare ends with electrical tape to prevent short circuits. Do not use non-connected wires or 'C'/'C1' wires.
- Prepare New Wallplate: Separate the new thermostat from its wallplate. Mount the new wallplate securely to the wall using the provided screws and anchors. Ensure wires pass through the designated opening.
- Connect Wires: Match each labeled wire to the corresponding terminal on the new thermostat. If you have wires for both 'R' and 'Rc' terminals, remove the jumper. Tighten terminal screws securely. Push any excess wire back into the wall opening. Refer to the guide for alternate wiring configurations if needed.
- Set Heating Fan Control: If a wire is connected to the 'G' terminal, set the jumper on the back of the thermostat. Leave it in the factory-set position for gas or oil furnaces, or move it for electric furnaces.
- Install Batteries: Open the battery cover, install two AA alkaline batteries, and then replace the cover.
- Mount Thermostat: Attach the thermostat to the wallplate, tighten the securing screw, and install the cover plate.
