Getting Started
The device operates on UMTS/HSPA/LTE networks and supports voice and data services.
Appearance
The device features several ports and indicators:
- 1. Wi-Fi button: Turns Wi-Fi function on or off.
- 2. WPS button: Activates the WPS function.
- 3. Indicators: Show the status of your device.
- 4. External antenna: Used to strengthen the signal.
- 5. Reset button: Resets your device.
- 6. Power Switch: Turns your device on or off.
- 7. USB: USB storage port.
- 8. Phone: RJ11 connector for telephone connection.
- 9. Power Socket: Connector for the external power supply.
- 10. LAN: RJ45 Ethernet connector for computer connection.

Installation Guide
Installing the nano-SIM Card and battery
- Slide the back cover and remove it.
- Install the nano-SIM Card. Ensure the card contacts face down when inserting into the nano-SIM slot.
⚠️ WARNING!
- Switch off your device before installing or replacing the nano-SIM card.
- Only 4FF nano-SIM cards are supported for use in this device.
- To avoid damaging the device, use only the card provided by your service provider.
- Insert the battery and close the back cover.
Connecting Your Device
Connect your phone, the ZTE MF288 device, and your computer. If you intend to use the mobile network for internet access or your landline phone, ensure the nano-SIM card is inserted first.
Switching on Your Device
Flip the Power Switch to get started. Ensure the phone is on the hook before powering on.
? NOTE: Do not place anything on top of the device. Do not stack multiple devices on top of each other during usage.
About nano-SIM Card
Handle the nano-SIM card by its edges to prevent static damage. Keep it away from electrical and magnetic appliances. If you cannot get service, verify network coverage, ensure antennae are firmly attached, and confirm you are using the correct nano-SIM card.
Internet Access
Wireless Connection
To connect to your MF288 via Wi-Fi, follow these steps:
- Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled. Check the Wi-Fi settings on the WebUI Configuration page or the Wi-Fi indicator ?.
- Use your Wi-Fi application on your client device to search for available wireless networks.
? NOTE: Set your client to use DHCP to obtain an IP address automatically. The client will typically get an IP address like “192.168.0.1”.
- Select the SSID (wireless network name) of your device and click Connect.
- Input the password and click OK.
? NOTE: The Wi-Fi password may be found on a label on your MF288. After a few moments, the client should connect.
Using WPS for Wi-Fi Connection
To enable Wi-Fi connection using WPS:
- Power on your device and enable the Wi-Fi function.
- Ensure WPS is enabled in the WebUI Configuration page.
- Press the WPS button on your device to start the Wi-Fi Protected Setup process.
- Enable WPS on your client device.
- Follow the system prompts on your client to finish the connection.
Accessing the Internet
Once connected, you can access the Internet in Automatic or Manual mode (default is Automatic).

Calling
Making a Call ?
Using a phone connected to your device allows you to place and receive calls. The device supports both cordless and corded phone dialing methods.
Note: Dial the 10-digit phone number, including the area code.
Three-Way Calling
While on an existing call, press the Flash (or Talk) key on your phone to put the first party on hold. Dial the second party's number (wait up to four seconds). When the second party answers, press the Flash (or Talk) key again to complete the three-way connection. If the second party does not answer, press the Flash (or Talk) key to end the connection and return to the first party.
? NOTE: If your phone lacks a Flash (or Talk) key, use the off-hook mechanism supported by your phone.
Call Waiting
Press *43#
or #43#
to enable or disable Call Waiting. You will hear two tones if someone calls while you are on a call. Press the Flash (or Talk) key to hold the current call and accept the waiting call, or to switch between calls. To end the current call and accept the waiting call, enter “1” and press the Flash (or Talk) key. To reject a waiting call (User Busy), enter “0” and press the Flash (or Talk) key.
? NOTE: Your device supports standard three-way calling and call waiting. Feature operation may vary based on your phone equipment.

Voicemail ✉️
Your MF288 supports wireless voicemail. Follow these steps to set up and use it:
Setup
Dial 1 on any home phone connected to your device and wait 2-4 seconds to connect to your wireless voicemail. Follow the voice prompts.
Message Waiting
New messages are indicated by the voicemail indicator ? (flashing) and an intermittent dial tone.
Retrieving Messages
To retrieve messages, dial 1 on any connected home phone and wait 7-8 seconds. Follow the voice prompts. Alternatively, dial your 10-digit home phone number.
WebUI Configuration
Accessing the Configuration Page
- Ensure your device is connected (cable or Wi-Fi).
- Launch your internet browser and enter

in the address bar.
? NOTE: Recommended browsers include IE (8.0+), Firefox (31.0+), Opera (23.0+), Safari (6.2+), or Google Chrome (36.0+).
Login
On the WebUI Configuration page, select your desired language and input the password. The default password is admin
. Click Login.
Settings
Do not modify settings unless instructed by your service provider.
Network Settings
Connection Mode
Select Settings > Connection Mode
. You can set the connection mode here; the default is Automatic.
Network Selection
Select Settings > Network Selection > Automatic
for the device to search for available networks automatically.
To manually select a network:
- Select
Settings > Network Selection > Manual
. - Click Search to find networks.
- Choose a network from the list and click Register to join.
APN Setting
Select Settings > APN
to configure APN parameters. You can set the current profile as default or add a new profile by selecting Manual mode and clicking Add New. Enter the required parameters like Profile Name and APN. Authentication can be NONE, PAP, or CHAP. User Name and Password are required if Authentication is not NONE.

NOTES: Profile Name and APN are mandatory. If Authentication is set to NONE, User Name and Password are not required.
Wi-Fi Settings ?
Basic Settings (2.4GHz / 5.0GHz)
Select Settings > 2.4GHz / 5.0GHz
to configure wireless network parameters.
- Access Point Switch: Enable or disable the 2.4GHz SSID function.
- Network Name (SSID): Set the name for your wireless local area network (WLAN), up to 32 characters.
- Broadcast SSID: Enable to broadcast the network name; disable to hide it.
- All the wireless client device is completely isolated: Check to prevent wireless clients from communicating with each other.
- Security Mode: Options include OPEN (no encryption), WPA2(AES)-PSK (secure), and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK.
- Password: Set the password for your wireless network.
- Max Station Number: Choose the maximum number of devices that can connect simultaneously.
Click Apply to confirm configuration.
NOTE: Your device has two Wi-Fi SSIDs. You can configure advanced settings for each.
WPS
You can enable Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) using PIN code or PBC (push-button) mode.
- PIN: A device needs to provide the specified PIN to connect.
- PBC: Press the WPS button on the device or select PBC, then click Apply. Press the WPS button on the client within two minutes.
NOTE: Your device has two WPS selections for the two Wi-Fi SSIDs.
Router Settings ⚙️
Select Advanced Settings > Router
to configure router parameters.
- IP Address: IP address for the LAN interface (e.g., 192.168.0.1).
- Subnet Mask: Subnet mask for the IP address (e.g., 255.255.255.0).
- DHCP Server: Enable or disable the DHCP Server function.
- DHCP IP Pool: Allocate the begin and end IP address for the IP pool (e.g., 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.200).
- DHCP Lease Time: Define how long a leased IP address is valid before reallocation.
Click Apply to confirm your configuration. Note: These settings can only be changed when the modem is disconnected.
Firewall ?
A firewall protects your connected devices from malicious incoming traffic. The firewall cannot be disabled, but settings are available.
Port Filtering
Select Advanced Settings > Firewall > Port Filtering
. You can enable or disable MAC/IP/Port Filtering.
- Default Policy: Set how to handle packets if no rules match (Accepted or Dropped).
- Accepted: Internet traffic is allowed by default. Only traffic from selected applications is blocked.
- Dropped: Internet traffic is blocked by default. Only traffic from selected applications is allowed.
- MAC Address: Set the MAC address to filter.
- Source IP Address: Set the source IP address to filter.
- Dest. IP Address: Set the destination IP address to filter.
- Protocol: Set the protocol for filtering (e.g., TCP, UDP).
- Action: Set how to handle packets matching a rule (Accept or Drop).
- Comment: Add a comment for the filter settings.
NOTE: If rules conflict, the first triggered rule determines the handling. Click Apply to confirm, or Delete to remove a rule.
Port Forwarding
Set up virtual servers to provide services on the Internet. Select Advanced Settings > Firewall > Port Forwarding
.
- IP Address: Set the IP address for the virtual server.
- Port Range: Set port numbers for the virtual server (e.g., 1-65535).
- Protocol: Set the protocol for the virtual server (e.g., TCP+UDP).
- Comment: Add a comment for the virtual server settings.
Click Apply to confirm configuration. Click Delete to remove a rule. To add a new rule, select Enable in the Port Forwarding area, click Apply, input details in Port Forwarding Settings, and click Apply again.
URL Filtering
Set up content filters to restrict access to specific websites. Select Advanced Settings > Firewall > URL Filtering
. Type the URL address and click Apply to add it to the filtering list.
UPnP
Universal Plug Play (UPnP) allows network devices to discover each other and establish functional network services. Select Advanced Settings > Firewall > UPnP
. Check Enable and click Apply to enable the function.
DMZ
The DMZ (De-Militarized Zone) allows full access and connectivity from outside traffic to a specific internal device without filtering. Select Advanced Settings > Firewall > DMZ
. If you select Enable, enter the IP address of the device you want to communicate with the Internet unfiltered, and click Apply.
Update and Device Settings
Update Management
Select Advanced Settings > Update
. Enable automatic updates and set the Auto-check Cycle, or disable it to manually check for software updates using the Check button.
Device Settings
PIN Management
Select Advanced Settings > Others > PIN Management
. View PIN Status and enter the Current PIN. Entering an incorrect PIN three times may block the nano-SIM card.
Reset
Select Advanced Settings > Others > Reset factory settings
to restore all settings to their factory defaults. The device will restart automatically.
Restart
Select Advanced Settings > Others > Restart Device
to restart your device manually.
SNTP (Time Synchronization)
Select Advanced Settings > Others > SNTP
. The device can set its time manually or obtain it from an SNTP server automatically. The default is Sntp auto Synchronization.
- Current Local Time: Displays the current local time.
- Time Set Mode: Choose automatic or manual time setting.
- SNTP server 1/2/3: Select an SNTP server.
- Time Zone: Choose your time zone.
- Daylight Saving Time: Enable or disable.
Click Apply to confirm. To set the time manually, choose Manual Set Time from the Time Set Mode drop-down list, set the Year, Month, Date, Hour, and Minute, then click Apply.

Data Management
You can create statistic plans and query used and left data statistics. Click Settings to configure data management settings.
SMS
This function allows you to create, receive, send, and forward messages from your ISP.
Operating Messages in Native (Device SMS)
You can check messages saved in your device. Click SMS from the home page to access the interface. Click New to create a message, then click Send. Click the arrow below a message entry to forward it.
You can also save messages in the Draft box.
Operating Messages in nano-SIM Card (SIM SMS)
You can check messages saved in your nano-SIM card. Select SIM SMS from the drop-down menu next to Device SMS.
All received messages saved in the nano-SIM card will be displayed here. Click Delete to remove selected messages.
Warning and Notice
Safety Precautions ⚠️
- Locate the device away from TV sets, radios, and other electronic equipment to avoid electromagnetic interference.
- The device may interfere with medical devices like hearing aids and pacemakers. Consult a physician or the medical device manufacturer before use.
- Keep at least 20 centimeters away from the device.
- Do not use in dangerous environments like oil terminals or chemical factories with explosive gases.
- Use only original or ZTE-authorized accessories to avoid performance issues or damage.
- Do not attempt to dismantle the device; there are no user-serviceable parts.
- Avoid contact with liquid or moisture; do not immerse the device.
- Do not place objects on top of the device to prevent overheating.
- Ensure the device is placed in a ventilated environment.
- Do not expose to direct sunlight or store in hot areas.
- Do not allow children to play with the device or charger.
- Keep the cable length between the device and the phone less than 10 meters.
- The device is for indoor use only. Do not connect telephone extensions running outside the building.
Cleaning and Maintaining
- Use an antistatic cloth for cleaning. Do not use chemical or abrasive cleansers. Turn off the device before cleaning.
- Operate within the temperature range of -10°C to +55°C (storage: -20°C to +65°C). Humidity range is 5%~95%.
- Do not use during a thunderstorm; remove the power pack from the wall socket.
- Do not remove the nano-SIM card unnecessarily, as it may be lost or damaged by static electricity.
Limited Warranty
This warranty does not cover defects caused by normal abrasion, End User's failure to follow instructions, mishandling, misuse, improper installation, unauthorized modifications or repairs, power failures, surges, fire, flood, accidents, third-party actions, or usage with third-party products causing defects. End User has no right to reject or return the Product or receive a refund under these situations. This warranty is the sole remedy and liability for defective items.
Limitation of Liability
ZTE is not liable for loss of profits, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of this product, regardless of whether ZTE was advised of the possibility of such damages.
FCC Compliance
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to two conditions: (1) it may not cause harmful interference, and (2) it must accept any interference received. Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the manufacturer could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. This equipment has been tested and found to comply with Class B digital device limits, providing reasonable protection against harmful interference in residential installations. It generates, uses, and can radiate RF energy and may cause interference to radio communications if not used as instructed. If interference occurs, users are encouraged to try correcting it by reorienting the antenna, increasing separation, using a different circuit, or consulting a dealer/technician.
RF Exposure Information
This device meets government requirements for exposure to radio waves. It is designed not to exceed emission limits for RF energy set by the FCC. Compliance with FCC radiation exposure limits for an uncontrolled environment is maintained. To avoid exceeding limits, maintain a minimum distance of 20cm (8 inches) from the antenna during normal operation.
