This adapter is intended for use only with MSR stoves and fuel canisters with EN 417 fittings. (Except Superfly)
There are serious hazards associated with the use of this stove adapter and fuel. Accidental fire, explosion, and misuse can result in death, severe burns, and property damage. You are responsible for your own safety and the safety of others in your group. Exercise good judgment, and read these user instructions carefully. Familiarize yourself with the adapter before connecting it to a fuel canister. Retain these user instructions for future reference.
DANGER
Follow all instructions that accompany the stove, and familiarize yourself with its use before using the stove with a remote stove adapter.
Ensure gaskets between the adapter and fuel canister are in place and in good condition before connecting the fuel canister to the adapter socket. Do not use this adapter if it has damaged or worn gaskets.
Fuel canisters must be changed in a well-ventilated area, outdoors, and away from ignition sources such as open flames, pilot lights, electric elements, and away from other people connecting the fuel canister to the adapter valve.
Listen for gas leaks, and be aware of gas odors. Gas leaks pose a serious hazard. LPG is invisible and odorless, and odorants added to it may dissipate over time. Leaks may not always be detected by smell. Do not use this adapter if it leaks, is damaged, or is not functioning properly.
Ensure the connection between the adapter and fuel canister is secure and leak-free. Do not use the adapter or fuel canister if the connection does not look or feel secure, or if you hear or smell leaking gas and cannot stop the gas leak. Move it to a well-ventilated area, away from ignition sources, to locate and stop the leak. Using a leaking adapter can result in fire, burns, serious injury, or death.
Check for leaks using soapy water. Do not attempt to detect leaks with a flame.
Keep the adapter and fuel canister away from other heat sources. Never use any type of windscreen. If the fuel canister is exposed to strong heat, it will explode or leak, which can result in severe burns or death.
Do not disassemble the adapter beyond what is described in these instructions. DO NOT MAKE MODIFICATIONS TO THE ADAPTER. Disassembly or modification of the adapter in any way not in accordance with these instructions will void the warranty and may result in an unsafe situation that can lead to fire, burns, serious injury, or death. None of the parts are user-serviceable.
Do not use the adapter if any parts are missing or broken, or with replacement parts not specific to your adapter. Using an adapter with missing or broken parts will void the warranty, and may result in an unsafe situation that can lead to fire, burns, serious injury, or death.
Avoid twisting the flexible hose.
The adapter should not be used or stored at temperatures below -20°C.
DANGER
Do not use this adapter:
- before reading and understanding this user manual in its entirety;
- if you are not prepared and comfortable with monitoring a burning and/or hot stove at all times;
- if you observe leaking fuel; or
- if you observe a situation with the adapter, stove system, or surroundings that could make operating an open flame device hazardous.
Failure to follow these instructions can lead to an unsafe situation that can result in fire, burns, serious injury, or death.
Instructions
PREPARE ADAPTER AND STOVE
1. Adapter: Unfold the adapter legs. Unfold and turn the adapter flame adjuster to close it.
2. Stove: If applicable, unfold the pot supports. Unfold and close the stove's flame adjuster.
CONNECT STOVE AND CANISTER TO ADAPTER
1. Screw the fuel canister into the adapter valve, without inverting it. Tighten by hand until snug.
2. Tighten the connection between the stove and the adapter socket until snug.
WARNING: The connection between the fuel canister and the adapter must never be overtightened. Overtightening can damage the adapter and fuel canister, and lead to fuel leakage. Fuel leakage can result in fire, burns, serious injury, or death. The fuel canister must be manufactured and marked in accordance with EN 417.
Exercise extreme caution when using the adapter and stove in sub-freezing temperatures. O-rings can stiffen at freezing temperatures and leak fuel. Always check for fuel leaks before and after lighting the stove. Using a leaking stove can result in fire, burns, serious injury, or death.
Keep children at a safe distance from the stove and fuel—Cascade Designs, Inc. recommends no less than 3 meters [~10 feet]. Never leave a burning or hot stove unattended. An unattended stove can lead to fire or a situation resulting in burns, injury, or death to children, pets, or unsuspecting individuals.
SET UP COOKING AREA
1. Ensure no flammable materials, liquids, or gases are present in the cooking area.
2. Place the adapter and fuel canister on a solid, level, and stable surface. Note: Do not use a windscreen with the system.
WARNING: Keep flammable materials at least 1.2 meters [~4 feet] from the top and sides of a burning stove, or a stove you are about to light. Keep flammable liquids and gases at least 7.6 meters [~25 feet] from the top and sides of a burning stove, or a stove you are about to light. Stoves can ignite flammable materials, liquids, and gases and lead to situations that can cause fire, burns, serious injury, or death.
Never attempt to light the stove if the flame adjuster valves are open. If the flame adjuster valves are open, close them immediately and ventilate the area thoroughly before lighting the stove. Failure to ventilate the area can lead to fire, burns, serious injury, or death.
CHECK FOR LEAKS
1. With the stove's flame adjuster still closed, fully open the adapter's flame adjuster and listen for any sounds or smells of leaking gas.
2. If you hear or smell gas, close the adapter's flame adjuster and re-tighten the fuel canister and stove connections. Repeat the leak check. If you still hear or smell gas, do not use the system.
LIGHT THE STOVE
1. Light the stove as per its instructions, and fully open the stove's flame adjuster.
2. Turn the adapter's flame adjuster to the desired setting. Note: do not invert the fuel canister at any time during operation.
WARNING: Never place your head or body over the stove while it is being lit or during cooking. Placing your head or body over the stove is an unsafe practice that can lead to fire, burns, serious injury, or death.
USE SYSTEM FOR COOKING
1. Place food or liquid in the cooking pot.
2. Place the cooking pot centered on the stove's burner. Note: Do not place an empty pot on the stove, and do not use a windscreen with the system.
3. Turn the adapter's flame adjuster to control heat.
WARNING: Never move a burning or hot adapter or stove. Always extinguish the stove first, and allow it to cool for at least 5 minutes before moving it. Moving a burning stove can lead to fire, burns, serious injury, or death. Never use the stove with empty or dry cookware. Never use a reflector or heat diffuser. Using the adapter or stove in any of the above ways can cause the fuel canister to explode, and can lead to fire, burns, serious injury, or death.
TURN OFF THE STOVE
1. Turn the adapter's flame adjuster to off when cooking is complete.
2. After the flame is extinguished, turn the stove's flame adjuster fully off.
3. Wait 5 minutes for the system to cool down.
STOW SYSTEM FOR STORAGE
1. Move the system away from ignition sources, and unscrew the fuel canister from the adapter valve. A small amount of gas may escape when the fuel canister is unscrewed.
2. Unscrew the stove from the adapter socket. Store the stove according to its instructions.
3. To stow the adapter, fold the adapter's flame adjuster over the adapter valve, and fold the adapter legs.
WARNING: The adapter must always be disconnected from the fuel canister before stowing. If the adapter is not disconnected from the fuel canister before storage, it can lead to fuel leakage, causing fire, burns, serious injury, or death. Fuel canisters should always be stored in a well-ventilated area away from all potential heat or ignition sources, such as water heaters, furnaces, pilot lights, or stoves, or places where the temperature exceeds 49°C [120°F]. If the fuel canister is stored near a heat or ignition source, or where the temperature exceeds 49°C [120°F], it can cause the fuel canister to explode, and can lead to fire, burns, serious injury, or death.
Stove maintenance must only be performed by a person authorized by Cascade Designs, Inc. If you have questions regarding these instructions, the adapter, replacement parts, or repairs, please contact Cascade Designs.
