Yale Doorman Smart Lock Installation Guide
Congratulations on your Yale Doorman Smart Lock!
Welcome to the Yale Doorman smart lock experience. This guide will walk you through the installation process.
Did you know you can connect your Yale Doorman smart lock to the Yale Access app using the Yale Access lock module (available as an accessory)? Alternatively, you can connect it to the Yale Smart Home Alarm system. For more information, visit yale.fi.
The Yale Doorman smart lock features the ABLOY BL907 lock body, developed and manufactured in Finland. The lock case bolt is coated with a special low-friction coating for easy door closing. While the coating may show signs of wear over time, it retains its properties, ensuring your door continues to open and close smoothly.

Installation Requirements: Strike Plate Gap
The gap between the door and the strike plate should be between 1.5 mm and 5.5 mm.
The trigger bolt (latch) must not sink into the strike plate opening. If necessary, adjust or replace the strike plate.
Preparing the Installation
Step 1: Check Your Current Lock Case Model
- Replacing ABLOY 4190 or LC100 Lock Case: The included lock case usually fits directly. You may need to change the lock case handing (see page 8).
- Replacing ABLOY LC102 or LC190 (Onefit Standard) Lock Case: You may need to change the lock case faceplate (see page 8) and potentially the lock case handing (see page 8).
- Other Lock Case Models: Check compatibility with your Yale reseller or visit www.yale.fi.
Changing the Lock Handing
This procedure involves removing a specific screw and re-inserting it on the opposite side to change the mechanical operation of the handle. Ensure the screw is not overtightened.
Changing the Faceplate
If necessary, replace the lock case faceplate.
Spindle Length Check
Check the required length of the inside spindle. The existing 80 mm spindle is suitable for most common doors. If needed, change the spindle. If using an accessory spindle shift kit, remove the inside spindle completely.
Spindle Length (A) Guide:
- A = 47 - 65 mm (For thicker doors)
- A = 29 - 47 mm
- A = 16 - 34 mm (For thinner doors)
Handle Spindle Replacement
Follow these steps to replace the handle spindle:
- Carefully remove the C-ring around the handle spindle from the inside escutcheon. Use eye protection and pliers if needed.
- Remove the handle from the escutcheon.
- Unscrew the screw from the handle.
- Pull the handle spindle out from the handle. Be careful not to lose the spring inside the handle.
- Insert the new handle spindle into the handle, ensuring the groove on the spindle aligns with the screw hole. Re-insert and fasten the handle screw. Re-attach the handle to the escutcheon and replace the C-ring.
Installing the Lock Units
Left-Door Installation:
Right-Door Installation:
Attaching Handles and Setting Modes
- Set the handles to point towards the hinges.
- Attach the handle using the included screws. Use the screws treated with blue screw lock adhesive for secure fastening.
- Install the support plate with a screw.
- Set the dipswitch to the left or right according to the direction of the handle.
- Choose EASY or ADVANCED mode for desired functionality. EASY mode offers limited features, while ADVANCED mode unlocks the full capabilities. Refer to the user manual for ADVANCED mode benefits.
Sliding Lock Case into Door
When sliding the lock case into the door, be careful not to pinch or cut the cable. Make space for the cable if necessary. Refer to page 8 for lock handing selection.
Ensure the lock case bolt (latch) does not enter the strike plate opening. Adjust or replace the strike plate if needed (see page 6).
Securing the Lock Case and Units
- Pass the lock case cable through the upper hole of the lock.
- Slide the lock case into the door.
- Fasten the lock case in place using the included screws.
- Pass the outside unit's cable over the lock case to the inside.
Mounting the Outside Unit
Cut the mounting screws to match the door thickness. Mount the outside unit using the double-sided sticker. Check that the handle can retract the bolt.
Run the cables through the insulation pad and push the pad into the door opening. Align the handle's insulation pad so that the screw holes on the pad and the lock case align correctly.
Note: Do not install insulation pads on fire doors.
Fastening Escutcheons and Connecting Cables
- Fasten the outside escutcheon to the inner mounting plate using the cut screws. Be careful not to damage the cables with the screws.
- Select the EASY or ADVANCED mode before attaching the inside unit. Refer to the user manual for ADVANCED mode benefits.
- Connect the cables to the inside unit's terminals. The cables only fit in one direction. If you need to change the spindle length, refer to page 10.
Caution: Do not scratch the circuit board.
Securing the Inside Unit and Inserting Batteries
- Fasten the inside unit. Ensure that the cables are not pinched.
- Insert the batteries. Use only high-quality alkaline batteries.
Registering the Master Code
Write down your master code and keep it safe.
Enter your master code, a 6-digit number of your choice. Do not close the door yet!
Confirm the entry with the P button.
Note: For more information on settings and features, see the user manual (page 51) or visit www.yale.fi.
Fastening the Battery Cover
Secure the battery cover.
Getting Ready for Use
Battery Replacement: Remember to replace the included batteries with new ones within 4 months of using your Yale Doorman. Use only high-quality alkaline batteries. Replace batteries at least every 12 months, or every 6 months if a remote control module is installed.
Post-Installation Checks
After installation, perform the following checks:
- Ensure the thumb turn operates smoothly, locks, and unlocks the door. If it feels stiff, check the internal unit's wiring (page 18).
- Verify that the door locks from the outside using the '*' button and unlocks with the correct code or key tag.
- Check the lock case and strike plate installation. The latch should not sink into the strike plate opening. The gap between the door and strike plate should be between 1.5 mm and 5.5 mm.
- Confirm that the handles move freely and return to a horizontal position when released. If not, check the spindle length and ensure the product is installed straight and screws are tightened correctly to prevent malfunctions.

- Verify the door locks from the outside with the '*' button and opens with the correct code/key tag.
- Confirm the trigger bolt does not sink into the strike plate. The gap between the door and strike plate should be between 1.5 mm and 5.5 mm.
- Ensure the handle moves easily and returns to horizontal position when released. If not, check the spindle length and verify the product is installed straight to prevent malfunctions.
- Check that all codes, key tags, and remotes (option) work correctly.
- Ensure all users know the function and location of the battery backup and reset button.
- Check that the bolt length in the locked position is 20 mm.
