Connection
Step 1: Connect the Modem
Connect the modem to the gateway's WAN Port 1 with an Ethernet cable.
Note: To connect to the internet via another WAN port (port 2 or port 3), configure your desired port to WAN, then connect the port to the internet. Refer to FAQ-Q1 for more details.
A diagram shows an Internet source connected to a Modem, which is then connected via an Ethernet cable to the WAN Port 1 of the TP-Link Omada ER605 Gigabit VPN Gateway. A PC is connected to a LAN port of the gateway via an RJ45 cable.
Step 2: Power On the Gateway
Use the charger provided in the package to power on the gateway.
Desktop Installation
To install the device for desktop use:
- Remove the adhesive backing papers from the supplied rubber feet.
- Attach the rubber feet to the recessed areas on the bottom of the device at each corner.
- Place the device on a flat table.
Note: This device also supports wall-mounting installation. For detailed information, please refer to the Wall Mounting Guide on the product's support page.
Configuration Options
The gateway supports two configuration options:
- Standalone Mode: Configure and manage the gateway singly.
- Controller Mode: Configure and manage network devices centrally. This mode is recommended for large-scale networks with multiple devices like access points, switches, and gateways.
Note: When the gateway is managed by a controller, its configurations will be overridden by the controller.
Option 1: Standalone Mode
In Standalone Mode, use a computer to configure and manage the gateway.
A diagram shows a PC connected to a LAN port of the TP-Link Omada ER605 Gateway.
- Connect a computer to a LAN port of the gateway with an RJ45 cable. If your computer is configured with a static IP address, change it to obtain an IP address automatically.
- Open a web browser and navigate to the default management address:
192.168.0.1
. - Create a username and password for subsequent logins and security.
- Log in to the management webpage using the created username and password.
- After successful login, configure the gateway's functions via the setup menu on the left side of the screen.
For detailed configurations, refer to the User Guide of the gateway, available on the TP-Link official website's download center: https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/?type=smb.
Option 2: Controller Mode
Choose from the following two types of Omada Controller:
Type 1: Via Omada Hardware Controller
The Omada Hardware Controller (e.g., OC200/OC300, purchased separately) is a suitable alternative if you do not have a spare PC to run the Omada Software Controller. It requires separate purchase.
For more details, refer to the Installation Guide of the Omada Hardware Controller.
A network diagram shows a TP-Link Gateway, a TP-Link Switch, and a TP-Link Omada Hardware Controller. EAPs (Access Points) and Clients are connected to the network, managed by the Omada Hardware Controller.
Setup Steps:
- The Omada Hardware Controller obtains its IP address from the gateway's DHCP server. To find its IP address, first locate the gateway's IP address by opening a command line on your PC and entering
ipconfig
. Find the 'Default Gateway' IP. - Launch a web browser and enter the gateway's IP address. Create a username and password, then log in. Navigate to Network > LAN > DHCP Client List to find the controller's IP address based on its MAC address.
- Enter the controller's IP address in the browser's address bar to access its web page.
- Follow the wizard on the Omada Controller's web page to complete the quick setup.
- After the quick setup, log in using your created username and password to further configure the controller.
- (For Remote Management) Enable Cloud Access on the controller. Launch a web browser and go to https://omada.tplinkcloud.com. Log in with your TP-Link ID, click '+ Add Controller', and select 'Hardware Controller' to add it.
Type 2: Via Omada Software Controller
The Omada Software Controller is free software for centralized management. It must be running on your computer to manage devices centrally.
A network diagram shows a TP-Link Gateway, a TP-Link Switch, and a Host PC running the Omada Software Controller. EAPs (Access Points) and Clients are connected to the network, managed by the Omada Software Controller.
Setup Steps:
- On a PC running Windows or Linux, download the Omada Software Controller installation file from https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/omada-software-controller/. Note: Ensure the gateway's network is configured to access the internet. Refer to Standalone Mode setup for WAN configuration.
- Run the installer and follow the wizard to install the Omada Software Controller.
- Launch the Omada Software Controller and follow the step-by-step instructions to complete the Quick Setup. A login screen will appear upon completion.
- Enter your created username and password and click 'Log in' to further configure the network.
- (For Remote Management) After installation, you can remotely access the controller via the Omada Cloud Portal. Enable Cloud Access on the controller's settings page and bind a TP-Link ID. Launch a web browser, go to https://omada.tplinkcloud.com, log in with your TP-Link ID, and click 'Launch' to configure the controller.
For detailed configurations, refer to the User Guide of the controller, available on the TP-Link official website's download center: https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/?type=smb.
