First Alert FA1600C Integrated Fire and Burglary Control
Overview
The FA1600C is a powerful integrated fire and burglary control panel that incorporates advanced technology to simplify end-user operations in demanding applications. It offers eight partitions in a UL listed Commercial Fire and Burglary control panel. The system supports up to 128 zones using basic hardwired, polling loop, and wireless technologies. It also accommodates indicating circuits, phone lines, keypads, RF receivers, and relays. The control offers scheduling capabilities and allows defined operations to be automated. It is available in either 12 or 24 volt models.

Patented V-plex Global Polling Technology
Up to 120 additional zones can be added using the on-board multiplex circuit. This technology requires RPM (Remote Point Module) devices, individually assignable to one of eight partitions. It offers faster processing speeds (eight times faster than conventional multiplex systems) and a longer transmission distance (8,000 feet capability on twisted pair).
Fire Detection Features
- Supports wireless smoke detectors (5808) in full compliance with commercial fire listing UL 864 and meets NFPA 72 requirements (requires 5881EH wireless receiver).
- Automatic smoke detector testing allows functional testing of all multiplex smoke detectors via keypad, with results logged or sent to a central station.
- Calibrated Smoke Detector Testing ensures high sensitivity levels for accurate detection, even with dirt or contaminants.
- Supports local and central station notification.
- Provides 24V, 3.2A power for 24V ADA compliant fire notification appliances.
User Codes
Accommodates 150 user codes, each capable of operating any or all partitions.
System Features
- Wireless Expansion: Supports up to 128 wireless zones using 5881 or 5881EH Fire type RF receivers.
- Supervised check-in signals (except for certain non-supervised transmitters).
- Tamper protection for supervised transmitters.
- Devices can be individually assigned to one of eight partitions.
- Devices can be assigned to bell outputs and/or auxiliary relays.
- QED Programming: Allows for fast enrollment of devices.
- Keypad Macros: Supports up to 4 macro commands per partition, enabling simplified control of complex events.
- Master Keypad: Provides a consolidated view of all eight partitions for immediate information and reduced confusion.
Common Lobby Logic
Allows for "First-in/Last-out" arming of all partitions. This simplifies end-user operation by automating system functions.
Scheduling and Relay Control
Simplifies end-user operation by automating system functions, including scheduling and relay control.
False Alarm Prevention Features
The control includes several features to help reduce false alarms caused by user error during the exit process:
- Exit Error Logic: Alerts the user and allows for correction if an exit door is left open while other protection points remain armed. A unique report is sent to the central station.
- Exit Delay Reset: Allows user re-entry without causing an alarm.
- Cross Zoning: Allows for combinations of zones to fault before an alarm sounds, preventing sensitive trigger reactions or enabling "man-trap" scenarios.
- Fire Alarm Verification: Double-checks an alarm condition before sounding.
- Calibrated Smoke Detector Testing: Provides NFPA 72 compliance for automatic testing.
8 Partitions
Provides the ability to control 8 separate areas independently, each functioning as its own separate control. A "Common Lobby" partition can be programmed to arm automatically when the last partition sharing the common lobby is armed and disarm when the first partition sharing the common lobby is disarmed.
Peripheral Devices
Supports up to 16 addressable devices, including keypads (FA550KP), RF receivers (4281/5881/5881EH), and relay modules (4204/4204CF). Each device is set to an individual address and enabled in the system via Device Programming Mode. Devices are typically connected to Keypad Port 1, with the exception of the alpha keypad which connects to Keypad Port 2.
Keypad Feature
- Accommodates three keypad panic keys.
- Accommodates 32 keypad macro commands for simplified partitioned system usage.
Notification Appliance Circuit
Provides two class B supervised notification outputs on the control panel. A 4204CF Relay Module can supply two additional supervised bell outputs.
Auxiliary Relay
Provides a built-in "Form C" relay for alarm activation, trouble/supervisory activation, 4-wire smoke detector reset, or battery saving.
Optional Output Relays
Accommodates 16 relay outputs that can respond to system events, activate using time intervals, or be used for additional supervised bell outputs (4204CF only). Relays can be manually activated and supervised by control panels, each with an alpha descriptor.
Optional Voice Module
Supports the FA4285 telephone module, allowing users to obtain system status, arm/disarm the system, and control relays remotely.
Access Control
When programmed, users can activate a relay for two seconds to open access doors. Each partition can be assigned an access control relay. The VGM Vista Gateway Module allows full integration with the PassPoint access control system.
Event Log
Stores a log of up to 224 events, including arming/disarming, reporting, troubles, and alarms. The log can be viewed at the keypad, via a local printer, or through a downloader.
Scheduling
Provides scheduling capabilities for:
- Open/Close schedules (for arming/disarming and reporting).
- Holiday schedules (for different time windows for Open/Close).
- Timed Events (for relay activation, auto-bypassing, auto-arming/disarming, etc.).
- Access schedules (for limiting system access by time).
- End User Output Programming mode (provides 20 timers for relay control).
