General Safety Instructions for Power Tools
⚠️ WARNING! Read all safety instructions, instructions, illustrations, and technical data. Failure to follow these instructions can result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury. Keep all safety instructions and instructions for future reference.
The term "power tool" refers to mains-powered and battery-powered tools.
1. Workplace Safety
- Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Clutter and poor lighting can lead to accidents.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres where flammable liquids, gases, or dust are present. Sparks can ignite dust or vapors.
- Keep children and other persons away while using the power tool. Distractions can cause loss of control.
2. Electrical Safety
- The plug must fit the socket. Do not modify the plug. Do not use adapter plugs with earthed tools. Unmodified plugs and matching sockets reduce the risk of electric shock.
- Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces (pipes, radiators, ranges, refrigerators). Increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
- Keep power tools away from rain or moisture. Water ingress increases the risk of electric shock.
- Do not misuse the power cord for carrying, hanging, or pulling the plug. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Damaged or tangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
- If working outdoors, use only extension cords approved for outdoor use. This reduces the risk of electric shock.
- If operation in damp environments cannot be avoided, use a residual current device (RCD). This reduces the risk of electric shock.
3. Safety of Persons
- Be attentive, use common sense, and do not use the power tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention can lead to serious injury.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses ?. PPE such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, helmets, or hearing protection reduces the risk of injury depending on the tool and its use.
- Avoid unintentional starting. Ensure the tool is switched off before connecting to power/battery, picking up, or carrying. Do not carry with finger on the switch or connect to power while switched on.
- Remove any setting tools or spanners before switching on the power tool. A tool or spanner left in a rotating part can cause injury.
- Avoid abnormal body posture. Maintain a secure stance and balance for better control in unexpected situations.
- Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose items can be caught by moving parts.
- If dust extraction/collection equipment can be fitted, ensure it is connected and used correctly. This can reduce dust hazards.
- Do not overestimate yourself and disregard safety rules, even after frequent use. Careless actions can lead to severe injuries in fractions of a second.
Use and Handling of Power Tools
- Do not overload the power tool. Use the correct tool for your work. Using the right tool ensures better and safer work within its specified performance range.
- Do not use a power tool with a defective switch. A tool that cannot be switched on or off is dangerous and must be repaired.
- Disconnect the plug and/or remove the battery before making adjustments, changing accessories, or putting the tool away. This prevents unintentional starting.
- Keep unused power tools out of the reach of children. Do not allow persons unfamiliar with the instructions or the tool to use it. Power tools are dangerous when used by inexperienced persons.
- Care for power tools and accessories. Check that moving parts function correctly and are not jammed, and that no parts are broken or damaged in a way that impairs the tool's function. Have damaged parts repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
- Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Well-maintained cutting tools with sharp edges jam less and are easier to guide.
- Use the power tool, accessories, etc., according to these instructions, considering the working conditions and the task. Using power tools for applications other than intended can lead to dangerous situations.
- Keep handles and grip surfaces dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Slippery grips prevent safe operation and control in unforeseen situations.
Use and Handling of Battery Tools
- Charge batteries only with chargers recommended by the manufacturer. Using a charger not designed for a specific battery type poses a fire hazard.
- Use only the intended batteries in the power tools. Using other batteries can lead to injury and fire hazard.
- Keep unused batteries away from metal objects (paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws) that could cause a short circuit. A short circuit between battery contacts can cause burns or fire.
- If battery fluid leaks, avoid contact. Rinse with water if accidental contact occurs. If fluid gets into eyes, seek medical attention. Leaked battery fluid can cause skin irritation or burns.
- Do not use damaged or modified batteries. Damaged or modified batteries can behave unpredictably and pose a risk of fire, explosion, or injury.
- Do not expose batteries to fire or excessive temperatures. Fire or temperatures above 130°C (265°F) can cause an explosion.
- Follow all charging instructions and never charge the battery or power tool outside the specified temperature range. Improper charging can destroy the battery and increase the fire hazard.
- ⚠️ CAUTION: EXPLOSION HAZARD! Never charge non-rechargeable batteries.
- Protect the battery from heat, e.g., prolonged sunlight, fire, water, and moisture. There is a risk of explosion.
Service
- Have your power tool repaired only by qualified personnel and with original spare parts. This ensures the safety of the power tool is maintained.
- Never service damaged batteries. All battery maintenance should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service centers.
Safety Instructions for Garden Shears
- Never operate the garden shear with damaged cutting blades.
- Hold the garden shear only by the insulated grip surfaces, as the cutting blade may touch hidden live cables. If the cutting blade comes into contact with a "live" conductor, exposed metal parts of the shear can become live, leading to an electric shock.
- Keep all body parts away from the cutting blade. Do not remove cuttings or hold the material to be cut while the cutting blades are moving. Ensure the trigger switch is off when removing jammed cuttings. Check for wire fences or foreign objects that the garden shear could catch during operation.
- Carry the garden shear by the handle with the blade stationary and ensure you do not press the switch. Proper carrying reduces the risk of unintentional operation and resulting injury from the blade.
- When transporting or storing the garden shear, always attach the blade guard. Proper handling reduces the risk of injury from the blade.
- Ensure all switches are off and the battery is removed or switched off before removing jammed cuttings or performing maintenance. Unexpected operation of the garden shear when removing jammed material can lead to serious injuries.
- Keep all mains cables away from the cutting area. Cables can be hidden in hedges and bushes and accidentally cut by the blade.
- Do not use the garden shear in bad weather, especially during thunderstorms. This reduces the risk of being struck by lightning.
- Check branches and shrubs for foreign objects, e.g., wire fences and hidden cables.
- Hold the garden shear correctly, e.g., with both hands if two grips are present.
- The garden shear is intended for work where the operator stands on the ground, not on a ladder or other unstable surface.
- The user should ensure before using the garden shear that any locking devices on moving parts (e.g., the extended shaft and the pivot element), if present, are in the locked position.
- ⚠️ Caution! The cutting blade continues to move after the motor is switched off.
- ⚠️ Warning! Keep unauthorized persons away! Also pay attention to children and pets.
- Never allow children, persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, or persons unfamiliar with these instructions, to use the machine.
- Wear sturdy footwear and long trousers when using.
Operation
Never misuse the device or use non-original parts/accessories. The use of parts or accessories other than those recommended in the operating instructions can pose a risk of injury.
